Love and All of Its Complexities Love is defined as an intense feeling of deep affection. Although it is not as easily defined as some may make it. Every situation and the lessons we learn from those times, help to form what we believe love to be. For some it may be a physical attachment that others degrade to lust. For some it may be their reason for continuing on in life; but overall for most, love is what drives our lives. From childhood to adulthood we seek to find relationships that will fulfill our hearts and make our short time on Earth a little more enjoyable. However as well as any other activity we partake in, ways in which we perceive love and marriage have changed over time. Although there is slight variations, when most imagine the life of a married couple pure happiness is what is expected. As wonderful as that expectation may be, not every marriage fits into this ideal. The criteria of marriage used to be based off of what your partner can offer you. However as times have changed and gender roles have begun to disappear, marriage has now …show more content…
One could say that they become so close that they each become half of one heart. In the poem “Marriage of Many Years” by Dana Gioia, marriage is described as a way for two people to become closer than ever before. It is a process where the two mutually grow and share memories with one another. Through this process she says that her partner has become “a language I have learned by heart” (Gioia). By comparing their love to a language, shows how natural their relationship has become. Their love has allowed them to become one unit and understand each other like it is second nature. This contrasts greatly to how marriages used to work in the past. No longer are women expected to make changes for the man. Each partner makes changes to ensure that the other is content with the
Through life, people experience many kinds of love. Many people often believe they love someone, when they actually do not because they may not know what the word means. As much as we want to understand love, it is still simply indescribable. As C.S. Lewis tries to explain it in his book, The Four Loves, it is still a mystery as to what love truly means. I believe in order to know what love means, one must experience it. It is quite true that went two individuals are in love with each other, they know it and can feel it. No matter how much love is studied and looked at, every individual must experience it to understand it. Along with this love lies circumstances which lead
Love is a variety of different emotional and mental states, typically strongly and positively experienced, that ranges from deepest interpersonal affection to simple pleasure. This value is precious amongst all humans, it is what makes or breaks us. Not only does love remind us of a time that was relevant or memorable,
Love throughout the years has been interpreted as an intense interpersonal attraction ("I love my partner"). Love can also refer specifically to the passionate desire and intimacy of romantic love, to the emotional closeness of familial love, or to the platonic love that defines friendship, to the profound union or devotion of religious love. Love had been defined by individuals to get close to someone who have actual feelings for or deeply care about, and one that you will actually risk your life for. But now, love has been given a bad reputation because now some people are only interested in having non-intimate sex with others. People prefer temporary relationships, instead of dedicating their lives to their loved ones. These types of
There are several different definitions for the word love. Love is a simple four-letter word, with a multitude of caring and feeling behind it. There is a difference between loving somebody and being in love with somebody. The love between two best friends or between a husband and wife are the types of love that people want to last forever. However, there are no guarantees that it will last forever. Furthermore, the love between family members and the love between a parent and child is the kind of love that will last a life time.
Denise Ryan’s “Getting married in B.C. today more about choice than numbers,” illustrates multiple perspectives on the concept of marriage. Marriage is a memorable occasion; it allows individuals to exhibit their emotions and devote his/her love to one another. While the significance of marriage remains the same, society's ideologies have evolved in numerous ways.
Love is a very powerful emotion that a human can experience. The essay Over 40 and Unmarried by Ron Beathard and I’m Not Sick, I’m Just in Love by Katherine Davis state what they think about love and marriage. People perceive life in different ways. Some people want to live their life first then get married, others want to get married early and live their life with their significant other. There is no right choice, it all depends on the individual.
Of course, physical affection plays a large role in connection to a partner, but the underlying glue for a strong relationship lies in the mindset behind it. Maria Fatima and M. Asir Ajmal, who both research clinical psychology, undertook a qualitative study and used Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis (IPA) as a research method. There is not any pre-existing theories or hypothesis surmised upon in using the IPA research method. However, there can be a great deal of bias because all of the information gathered can be subjective towards the interviewee. In Maria and Asir’s experiment, they interviewed a woman that was happily married and asked her direct questions about the influencers of a long marriage. The interview questions asked were formulated from what one needs as an individual, to how it can work in a relationship as well. “The interviewee stated, "Happiness and satisfaction go side by side. Satisfaction level determines your level of happiness and a satisfied life is a happy life".” (Maria 39). There were 16 categories to a life-long marriage that presented themselves within this research, and satisfaction was one of the most important. Each category could potentially be subjective to the one woman interviewed, and if the experiment is replicated, it could be possible for another person to have the same categories. One cannot aspire to share, forgive, or love,
Marriage is the unity of a man and a woman as partners in a relationship. Generally, a couple would get married due to strong emotional feelings towards each other. This leads to them pronouncing their vows and promises to each other which should last for the rest of their lifetimes. But, in some cases, there are exceptions. Marriage can lead to a separation due to the differences in interests between a husband and a wife.
Marriage is a binding contract between two individuals. It is a way to show each other that they are ready to spend the rest of their lives with each other. A marriage is much more than a wedding dress, wedding cake, and rings. It takes loyalty and commitment to each other. In the Elizabethan era, William Shakespeare’s romantic comedy A Midsummer Nights Dream shows through motifs how people struggle with a new marriage, but in the end the fight results in a stronger marriage.
Marriage is a bond between a man and a woman. Love is basic affection. How will I distinguish marriage from love? In America to show love and make a marriage a sacred entity, a commencement is prepared to make two become one. In India, this ritual struggle to exist. Marriages in India are just a business negotiation among two clients. I ask, in two countries, can marriage have different meaning? While some differences in marriages between India and the United States are apparent, the similarities are significant.
To help me better define the meaning of the word ”marriage”, I looked it up in several dictionaries. To my surprise, not one included the word “love” in their definition. I found that a bit odd, because isn’t love what marriage is supposed to be based upon? For example, dictionary.com defines marriage as “any of the diverse forms of interpersonal union established in various parts of the world to form a familial bond that is recognized legally, religiously, or socially, granting the participating partners mutual conjugal rights and responsibilities and including, for example, opposite-sex marriage, same-sex marriage, plural marriage, and arranged marriage.” Miriam Webster defines marriage as “the state of being united to a person of the opposite sex as husband or wife in a consensual and contractual relationship recognized by law and the state of being united to a person of the same sex in a relationship like that of a traditional marriage.” I believe love should be incorporated somewhere in there. Perhaps if it were, then more marriages would last. After all, the foundation of marriage should first and
Love is not going to build a house or feed hungry children. The media is feeding the world a wrong point of view about the love that leads to a successful marriage, but marriage is a big responsibility for anyone and love is one of many elements that marriage needs to be considered as a successful one. In fact; marriage is living with a specific person forever and to share every moment with this person. Love can be read in the stories, felt in the songs, and touched in the movies, but the reality is not in what we read, watch, or hear. However, true love can be faked by many people and love can be wrong felt. Marriage should be bases on money, jobs, and home.
Marriage is a bond between a male and a female that binds together two families, and it constitutes the base of the society. Every culture has its own definition of marriage, however all cultures agree that understanding, care, honesty, trust, love, patience and respect are the factors of having a successful, joyful and happy marriage. Arranged and love marriages stand apart from the basis, never the less I believe that love marriage is better because the couple get a chance to know each other before the marriage, and know what they both like and dislike. Love marriage makes different cultures and races mix together. Another thing that worth mentioning is that love marriage is always built on understanding between both partners. Lastly, we
To women love is a personal and subjective experience. If you go around and ask the question “What is love?” you will get so many different answers. The reason for this is because to each women different things are important. It may mean loyalty, passion, excitement, warmth and friendship. Women also think that love can mean that someone will do anything for the other person and be there for that person no matter what the situation. Love, in ancient Greece, was known to be the admiration between a man and beautiful young boy. In the thirteenth century, the definition of love was the love between a woman married to another man and knight. Love between a wife and husband was the norm in Puritan New England. Also in Victorian times, the asexual commitment from a mother for her child was the definition of love. As you can see there were many different types of definitions of love. In today’s society norm definition of love is a longstanding heterosexual relationship between two committed lovers.
In love marriage both individuals feel more secured and comfortable as they know each other well and are also aware of strengths and weakness of each other. And they do not find any difficulty or anything new in their life after their marriage.
