It all started when I first found out about Mass Academy on WPI’s website. Though it was only by attending Mass Academy’s open house and visiting its website that allowed me to solidify my belief that the Academy is the ideal school for me. As I explored their webpage, I recognized an institution that not only encourages its students to take initiative of their learning through rigorous courses, but also gave them the collaborative, hands on learning experience that I too cherished. At the open house, I got a chance to have an engaging conversation with some currently attending seniors [Nilay, Patrick and Celine] at the academy, and as we talked I felt that I could really relate to them, whether it be in terms of interests, hobbies
Like you I too share your concern and reflection. At our January 26th, 2016 School Board Workshop our School Mental Health Team gave an in-depth review of the many mental health professionals and programs that are in place in our schools for our students, staff and families both in and outside of our schools. You can view the video of the meeting by visiting this link: http://livestream.com/citrusschools/events/4738040. In addition I am attaching the Workshop presentation materials that were presented during the meeting. I think you will find that Citrus Schools has and does put Mental Health of our students as a high priority. As you will see it is far more than simply referring students to a hotline. We have teams
When I was a sophomore I was selected for the Missouri Scholars Academy. This single event changed my life forever. Missouri Scholars Academy is an intense three week program in which 330 of Missouri’s brightest individuals are gathered at the University of Missouri’s campus during the summer and attend classes, lectures, and activities. Before this adventure, I was always really shy. I was absolutely terrified to talk to “popular” kids and never uttered a word during class. But that was about to change.
The most important experience that has positively impacted my academic performance is being in AVID for the past 5 years. AVID is an acronym that stands for advancement via individual determination, a college preparatory class that helps prepare you for college, get organized, and set goals. I have been enrolled in AVID since 8th grade learning how to become a better student, improving study skills and the way I communicate with the students and teachers around me.
Being able to work with the freshman students by mentoring them about senior year was an honor. This is very important for young students to start hearing about because they will have the
One of the interesting facts about these videos to me is that University of Phoenix produced and used challenge coin without the approval from the military just to trick veterans to believe that Department of Defense has looked and examined that organization and authorized them in some way to provide them with the
My time spent in the Clinical setting, so far, has been extremely inciteful as to how to become a better educator in a classroom setting. Through the data I collected I was able to connect Borich’s Seven Variables of learning to the students. By being in the clinical setting for nearly two months, I have been exposed to new ways of thinking when it comes to structuring a classroom and instructing a classroom. Within this reflection you will find out how I would better plan an effective lesson for the pupils in my future classroom. You will also discover what I will do about certain issues in the classroom and how I will address/fix them.
From day one, I noticed the relative ease of the course. The two friendly instructors welcomed the entire class, and they presented the material in a simple and comprehensible manner. My seven classmates and I bonded immediately. I recall
Although this is my second semester at Liberty University I have already completed the APOL and BIBL course which are required for my degree. As this would conclude the required Bible courses, I just hope to gain knowledge of a different aspect of the Bible. From my experience from the classes I have taken with Liberty University this far I realize that knowledge of the Bible is expected and I hope this course sets me up with more tools to complete various assignments. Through my prior courses this past summer I gained a refresher on things which I learned throughout high school and this course is something that I have actually never taken before. With it being new I just hope it brings insight into topics that are current and hopefully I
The two units that I felt I could connect the most to were the mental health and the factors affecting wellbeing unit. I think I was able to connect the most to these units because some of the things that are talked about in the units applied to my life. In mental health and factors affecting wellbeing, we discussed the different factors that can affect our mental health. One example that we talked about was stress, and this is one reason why I was able to relate to the unit. I often have felt stressed therefore, I know the effects it has on our mental health. Another thing that we talked about was how our mental health is affected every day by little things, and, I agree with this statement because I too have experienced
While I was pondering about where to go for my Master’s Degree in Higher Educating Administration my options were limited. I needed a different atmosphere, I wanted a non-traditional setting. A master’s program that offered the classes entirely online, in the comfort of my home. Therefore, I can study at my convenience and also be a full time mother to my teenage daughter. While reviewing the Stony
After taking this summer class I learned a lot on how to help me improve at Luther college. Even though the NHCC professor was not the best professor I learned to still ask for help and her advice even though it wasn’t the best. Before the first test in this summer I asked the SASC department for advice for note taking and test taking. They listed a few websites and I looked at them. I used their suggestions when taking notes from my textbook. I also used outside sources for help, Kjresten helped me make note cards and practice taking tests. Her notecards helped and showed me a way to make a game out of a picture chart that I will be seeing in other classes at Luther. Now, I can use that technique to help study the graphs. To continue the success
I grew more and more excited as I learned about the excellent professors and resources that UC had to offer, and as a hands-on-learner, I found UC's simulation center to be of particular interest to
Over the past year Ithaca College has given me many tools to help me succeed after I leave South Hill. I learned how to manage having five different professors who all have unique expectations of me as a student. Every night I would mentally run through the next day and think what each professor wanted from me. I often had to prioritize assignments by doing what was due the soonest. Having relationships with my professors was important to me and taught me how to have professional relationships with people. The little things like addressing someone who I don’t know, proper email format, and how to shake a hand were all valuable lessons I learned dealing with so many different professors. I have struggled with some professors at Ithaca
I don’t know if there are any words to express my gratitude for this program, as well as both your foundation’s and Professor Hatkoff’s understanding that a nontraditional student, such as myself, will also find it an amazing, insightful, growing experience.
Teaching can be a challenge, you never know what to expect and each classroom will be unique. However, you will always have to be prepare for teaching in a situation you may not be comfertable with. Educating students and practicing proper knowledge on subjects such as race, class, gender, sexual orientation and disability are vital in creating a safe and respectful classroom for all. School is often looked upon as a place of security for students and it is our job as teachers to help maintain that status.
