Contemporary society suffers from a wide range of problems nowadays. It is a fact that the human development comes at the new stage of development, which starts to harm society. Nowadays there is a considerable increase in gun abuse, violence, murders and thefts, which have a negative impact on the society. There is no nation in the world, which can be confident in its safety from terrorism and mass killings. Millions of people are worried about nation’s welfare and prosperity regarding the increasing number of mass killings. It is mandatory to study the essence of mass killings and its reasons of the nationwide spread. In general, mass killings form a threat to the society not only in the US, but in the whole world as well. Mass killings have become a problem, which emerged from the country’s level of development and country’s internal processes. The nature of mass killings is hard to predict. According to the statistics, the average age of a murderer is 33.5 years old. Despite this fact, mass killings involve people of different ages and occupations. There is a vast percent of teenagers, who commit murders within the walls of the school (Duwe, 2005). It may seem that gun access may cause gun abuse and violence among residents, which later results in mass killings (Fox, 2013). However, it is essential to see into the roots of the problem. Community believes that a free access to gun results in violence and gun abuse. All life facilities have become extremely expensive, and
It decieves the perception of viewers by portraying mass murders as a small issue that makes headlines frequently but cannot be solved. As for viewers, they must develop a bigger perspective and should not allow a few anchors to stop us from ending violence because they say our society is headed for self-inflicted extinction. Although, the article is conducted very bluntly, sucessfully plays with the right emotions of a reader and combined mixtures of facts and opinion to convince his idea, this article contain biases. For example Adam used several reports and facts about gun control laws in several countries, then gave his opinions on those laws. He also indicated a personal connection with the mistreatment of gun controls. By mentioning either of these biases, would be important to mention before a reader attempts to maintain an objective view of the article
The problem with society, is that people tend to wait for the problem to occur before making a change. Troubled children and teens have always existed but unfortunately now we’ve entered into an era where shootings are no longer just seen in action movies, it has now become a reality in our schools. Why do these children end up killing their classmates and why the number of school shootings in America have increased in the past several years? These articles try to give some kind of explanation into why these tragic accidents occur. As well as preventions that teachers, parents, and the community as a whole can partake in. This paper will focus on these two main ideas or themes.
A major concern in the United States is why mass shootings occur and what needs to be done to stop them from happening. Mass shootings have gained a significant amount of attention in 2015. Within the year, a total of 372 mass shootings have occurred in the United States killing 475 people and wounding 1,870. Mass shootings have become a popular trend within the media and have given the impression that it is the new normal. Mass shootings are a dysfunction to society, due to the fact that they create horror and tragedy within the country. Schools, shopping malls, and even movie theatres have all endured the horrific violence. Mass shootings are nothing new, however, they seem to be occurring more often and are becoming more and more violent. The three leading factors to mass shootings are problematic masculinity, mental illness, and gun control.
Violence, one of the biggest problem in the world right now, especially in America, where the gun control law are barely enforced, every citizen is at constant risk, considering the amount of people in this country that own guns. Crime and violence are rapidly becoming the prime epidemic in the U.S today, but what can we do to ensure our future generation’s safety?
On January 17, 2017, “Surge in the Violence” was released by the Crime lab at the University of Chicago, which had combined a report on the statistics of homicides taken place in the year 2015 and 2016. The number of homicides taken place in the year of 2016 has soared by record high of 67 percent than the previous year. Chicago is one of the busiest and advanced cities in the world and getting such high numbers in the field of crime is a shame and leaves a bad impression on the rest of the world. The violence related to guns has also increased enormously and according to “Chicago Tribune”, 2,958 people have been shot dead by now this year. Though the data shows that the homicides by gun has decreased significantly but the number is still a problem. The gun violence now is a serious problem and the current situation demands strict gun laws.
Have you ever wondered why someone would pick up a gun and point it at a classmate, a family member, or yet, a child's innocent face. These questions haunted me after I got a message from a friend saying there might be a school shooting tomorrow . I have always known my school to be a safe place, and such news frightened me. A few hours later I got a message from the same friend. This time, she said “the news was a rumor". Even though I was comforted by knowing it was a rumor, I wanted to have a wider understanding of such incidents. After reading a few article I saw a trend, Every Time a school shooting or any mass shooting happens in general, guns become the main topic throughout the nation, and the country gets divided into pro-guns and anti-guns. This event of polarization would continue until the next shooting where people get and more polarized rather than focusing on the issue. But we have to recognize this, what we need to solve is not just what method the shooter used, but the events leading to that decision.
Every year more than 20,000 children, as well as a youth under the age of 20 years, face deaths and in other case injured by firearms in the US. The fact that guns are lethal, as well as the fact that there is ease of access to the guns by the young people, is the main explanation why firearms are the second cause of deaths among young people between 10 and 19 years. Most of these deaths are homicides while suicides account for approximately one-third of the deaths by gun among the young people, and unintentional shootings account for approximately 7% of the deaths. Among the homicides that have perpetrated by the young people in their school include the 2012-gun attack at Sandy Elementary where 28 people at the school killed. In the year 1927 in the bath school, there were 45 murders whereby the majority of the victims were children. At Virginia Tech, a gunman killed 33 victims in the year 2007 (Swanson, et al. 361-376).
"I'm angry someone would do this to us. There are lives ruined, families ruined, and our whole school year is ruined" (Brackely 1). Casey Brackely, once a student that attended Columbine High School, remembers the tragedy of the horrific Columbine shooting that killed and injured many students. Mass shootings in the United States have been on the rise since the 1980’s, especially in the last decade. These shooters motives and profiles are almost all terrifyingly alike. Many of these shooters try to imitate and parallel the tragic shooting of the Columbine High School in 1999. These shootings have made peaceful organizations, such as an elementary school; become a place of violence and death. Currently, in the United States, an epidemic of
Without a doubt there is a lot of violence on the news today, from mass shootings to murder almost every day. The violence happening should have schools and work places concerned and working better security to their environment. Mass shootings that have occurred over the years such as the Sandy Hook Elementary School, Aurora Movie Theater and the University of California had shooter that had been diagnosed with one or more mental issue. In the article by Jonathan Metzel, he explained each of the three shootings that are listed above in detail. Jessica Jigmond stated in her article that by voting having better gun laws could help prevent shootings to occur and killing innocent people. The last article Guns, Schools, and Mental Illness:
The recent tragic events in Tunisia and all too regular mass shootings in the United States provide a stark reminder that we live in an increasingly volatile world. A world where at those times when one should feel most safe and secure, it's all too easy to be suddenly amidst a dangerous and life threatening series of events.
In recent years gun violence has increased significantly in every part of the world. There are more young people getting killed every year than adults who have their life past 30 years of age. It can be through crossfire or having problems with someone that turns into a bigger and worst situation. Everyday you hear about gun violence either in your city or other parts of the world. Each year gun violence is increasing year by year and is only getting worst. It is so easy for young teens to get a gun now and days everyone has one and till that changes gun violence won’t stop.
It is impossible not to open a newspaper, watch the television, or listen to the radio with out hearing about some type of gun violence. Perhaps the main reason for such high gun violence is that guns are so plentiful in the Unites States. In fact, there are sixty five million handguns in America ("The `facts' about Guns"). These guns contribute to an annual medical cost of fourteen billion dollars, which is spent solely on treating gun victims ("Handguns in America"). Not surprisingly, handguns are the cause of eighty percent of homicides, seventy percent of suicides, and almost every accidental shooting ("Youth and Violence"). Handgun violence is a problem that is easy for everyone to see. How to solve this predicament is another
This paper examines the act of mass murder. If society can find a valid answer as to what causes a person to commit mass murders, then the possibility of preventing the act would be great because it would be probable to recognize the psychotic behavior that is associated with mass murder. Occurrences of mass murder for instance the shootings at Sandy Hook, Aurora Colorado theatre; Columbine and Virginia Tech over and over again dominate much of society's attention not only for weeks but often for months following the incident. The research question I have selected is: ‘What are the sociological and psychological causes for unforeseen criminal actions of Mass
Murder in the city occurs due to different reasons, and there is an interconnection of various factors that motivate individuals to commit crimes. Key factors for this phenomenon are social, economic, and political. Murder in the city can be analyzed or investigated from sociological approach since those who commit the crimes have to undergo a decision-making process for them to identify who to commit their heinous crime or whether they are justified to do.
What effects Death Punishment causes to society? My first instinct about the topic as a part of the society was “People, who private another person of his life, should not have any right to conserve his own life either”. Putting ourselves in the positions of the victims, the families’ victims and the fear caused to` society in general.
