I learned there are different types of social degrees in the field of social work for a variety of social work occupations. The foundation of social work education begins at the undergraduate level to obtain a bachelor’s degree in social work or behavior science. Social workers with this level of education will learn about abuse and addiction. You learn how to education and help clients stay on track and make better, healthier, and more sensible choices. For more advance positions in social work one will need to obtain their master’s degree. The MSW program focuses more on the social services policy, procedures, and regulations. It takes a deeper look into occupational ethics and social work leadership. This program requires at least
While a bachelor’s degree is usually not required for entry into this occupation, employers increasingly seek individuals with relevant work experience beyond high school certificates. Associate degrees in subjects such as social work, human services, gerontology, or one of the social or behavioral sciences meet most employer’s requirements. Some jobs may require a bachelor’s or master’s degree in human services or a related field such as counseling, rehabilitation, or social work.
There are several goals that I hope to achieve by pursuing a graduate degree in Social Work. Pursuing a MSW will provide me with the knowledge, tools, and skills-set that will be fundamental to the achievement my career goals outlined below.
Has there ever been a time in your life where you were going through something and felt sad, and alone? Well I have, and i’ve came across many people who have also. When going through something everyone needs that someone who is there for them to listen, and give advice. In the future, I want to be that someone. My passion is helping people, since I was about 5 I’ve always enjoyed helping out people by doing a variety of things.
In order to become a licensed social worker in the United States, one must hold at least a Bachelor’s in Social Work (BSW) from an accredited program. With a BSW or a degree in a related field, the individual is able to provide the most basic of services to their clients such as casework or being a mental health assistant (U.S. Bureau Labor Statistics, 2016). However, in order to provide clinical mental and behavioral health services, a Master’s in
Determined to find her own answers, Katherine—who has a master’s degree in social work—spent the better part of 2009 and 2010 seeking out concussion experts, reading up on neuroscience research and attending medical conferences on brain injury. Word of her newly acquired expertise spread through her Norwalk, Connecticut., community, and it soon became well known: If your kid has been concussed, Katherine is the next stop for advice and answers after you’ve left the doctor’s office or hospital. She estimates that she counseled over 300 families in those first two years. “It was kind of like being a concussion doula,” Katherine says.
Why is it that some citizens think that people who work in the field of social work does not need an education or a degree for it? Also, they think is all about having a good heart and a great deal of common sense. I believe that having these traits for this job is part of it since you do need some common sense and a good heart. There are many other requirements that are needed in this career for example psychological and sociology training among others, to be able to understand the differences of human cultures and their races.
According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook, “clinical social workers must have a master’s degree in social work and two years of post-master experience in a supervised clinical setting” (Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2014). My plan to meet the education requirements for being a clinical social worker is to get my bachelor’s in social work at APSU and receive my master’s at APSU also. There are several upper level course requirements within the Austin Peay State University Undergraduate Bulletin that will help me achieve my goal of being a clinical social worker. Social Work 3420 - Human Behavior in the Social Environment will allow me to understand how people function in all environments and different cultures (Austin Peay State University, 2015). Social Work - 3770 Research Methods will allow me to properly analyze different social groups such as gays, lesbians, women, and people of color and come up with a proper solution for social problems affecting these oppressed groups (Austin Peay State University,

Education has been inforced in my family ever since my parents found themselves struggling with expenses. In addition, many people all around the world have faced and still find themselves in the terrifying situation of not having a job due to their lack of education, which can lead to bad choices in life. For instance, many parents decide to have children at the unappropriate time, not taking into consideration the struggles they are already facing. Many times, when adolescents are raised in an environment in which they have no support they begin to get involved in unsafe activities. My goal is to earn my masters in Social Work, to provide professional discipline in order to facilitate welfare in communities, individuals, and families. As
I regularly reminisce about my grandmother singing, row your boat gently down the stream, merrily, life is but a dream. This nursery rhyme is a significant part of one of my earliest memories and as an adult has developed a new meaning for me. My decision to apply for
The major I plan on taking when I go to a four year school is psychology with a minor in social work. When I first went to Frederick Community College I intended to major in computer science. However, an unfortunate event happened that gave me a new passion for psychology and a completely different view on life. My first semester at Frederick Community College was a rough year for me due to the fact I lost my uncle, I was working in a hostel place and just had a harsh break up with my first girlfriend. That year was the first time I really felt sad and it effected my school work as well. I had little to no motivation, after classes I would just sleep or lock myself in my room. This cycle continued for months and it took a huge toll on my mental

approximately the same time to complete. (Long Island University) For some students their goal may be to achieve a master’s degree in counseling psychology to increase their acceptance to a Ph.D, or Phs.D program. (Capella University) Other students may choose to enter the workforce with a master’s in Counseling Psychology. The licensing process varies from state to state, but most graduates will expect to prove how they have met educational requirements, ability to practice, completion of fieldwork, and examination. “Social Workers help people solve and cope with problems in everyday life.”(Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2014) A Social Worker, is what the title implies it is, it is someone working with their clients to provide the best care they can for them. In 2012, the median salary for Social Workers was at $44,200, the number of jobs in the same year was at 607,300. The growth outlook for the next couple of years is at a 19% increase, which is a faster than average growth pace in any field. Educational and training requirements for Social Workers can vary, but most employers seek a Bachelor’s in Social Work but also many employers hire people in related fields such as people with degrees in Psychology and Sociology. Some subfields in Social Work require a bit more education such as in Clinical Social Work, which requires a Masters in Social Work and at least two years of Post-Masters experience in a Clinical setting. Licensing requirements vary from State to State but most States require a license for Clinical Social Workers. Most Clinical Social Workers have to have a Master’s Degree and two years of supervised Clinical experience. After that, they must take a Clinical exam in order to be licensed in a specific State.
But also, in many cases you may be able to become employed by having a similar degree such as psychology or sociology. As of now I am currently enrolled in LaGuardia community College majoring in psychology. My plan is to transfer to Hunter College to get my bachelor’s degree. However, I do not plan to end there. I’ve learned that in the state of New York, a competitive and demanding need for social workers, a bachelor degree may not be enough to earn a successful position. I plan to complete my master’s in social work (MSW). From what I’ve learned on the Occupational Handbook, “a degree in almost any major is acceptable” to enter the MWS program. This means that with my bachelor’s in psychology I would be able to get in the program. In the MWS program it may take an additional two years to complete and in the state of New York it also requires a license (LMSW) as well to become a social worker.
