Matt Calkins is a journalist from the Seattle Times newspaper and online, and he wrote an article about Coach Kennedy's postgame prayers at a high school's football 50-yard line. Calkins states that he wishes for his kid to have a coach like that one day, so that gives you an inference of his positive and supportive position on the actions of Coach Kennedy. For instance, a quote from someone interviewed by the name Hacker stated, "It's about unity. We can be mad at each other all we want during a game all we want, but once the game over, that all goes away." The evidence from this quote explains how one can see that the prayers can help heal or bring positive inclination to everyone. In the article, he states that he isn't one to "look
This subject matter is about one of the most under rated paintings in my opinion of all time painted by a very under rated painter whom is Tim Ashkar, and the painting is no other than Beauty of Color. The artwork is full of different shades of beautiful black women wearing their elegant attire along with exquisite heads dresses and simply luscious pearl necklace along with the ear rings to match. All of them have peaceful and pleasant looks on their faces with their backs straight wearing beautiful array of earth tone colors with eyes to match. It seems like they arrange from young to not so old but all of their faces are very distinctive from one another, so it’s very easy to see who’s who.
Tony Dungy is a highly respected pillar in the athletic community. Breaking barriers throughout his coaching carrier; he was propelled into the spotlight when he became the first African American coach to win a Super Bowl title. Shortly following his victory in Super Bowl XLI came much intrigue into his coaching style and personal life. Many wondering how he gained the respect of all his players and produced positive results while maintaining a calm demeanor. In his book, Quiet Strength, Tony Dungy speaks on the importance of faith and family. Emphasizing the power of prayer, commitment, and patience within faith. As well as the impact of his family on his career, that ultimately changed the path he had preferred for himself.
Respecting everyone’s personal belief, 2. Allow those who practice a certain religion to be able to express their beliefs at a specific time, 3. Show their religion on and off the field. Some players will point to the sky, which can be a representation of thanking God, some players will gather after a game to say a quick prayer, and most teams have a chaplain who will pray over the team, or give a short sermon before the game. You must respect everyone’s decision to follow different religions, or to not even follow a religion, especially for a coaching position when parents, and even the school board is watching your every
In the book Into the Wild the main character, Chris Mccandless, made a rational decision to exclude himself from human society because he believed that going beyond what his parents and society wanted he would live a happier life. Chris wanted to leave society and venture into the wilderness to find the true meaning of who he was. Chris Mccandless was neither crazy or ignorant to live off in the wild where there was no people or anything to interact with but nature. Chris wanted to find his inner self and not only was he a role model for kids all across the country but he also followed his dream. Even though it was selfish of him to leave his family, Chris Mccandless is not crazy because he followed his dream, lived his life the way he wanted to, and went into the wild to find who he truly was.
Bastard out of Carolina was a very good book with many controversial topics to be talked
In the war, it often thought that soldiers, go to a country to keep peace in that part of the world. Unfortunately that is not always the case;during these tours ,soldiers die everyday from cultural violence, and misguided information by their superiors and in this story that has occurred. Jimmy Cross is characterized as a man who is filled with emotion and the loss of one of his men. “Cross carried a compass, maps,...He carried a strobe light and the responsibility for the lives of his men.” (Tim O’Brien pg. 4) Cross felt directly responsible for his men. Joe Kennedy, an assistant head coach at Bermenton High, has been under some fire from the district. Kennedy as he always does, assembles himself and sometimes other players to begin a prayer at the fifty hard line. However, he has insisted on numerous occasions that his prayers are not intended to attract attention or to preach the word of the lord. But to merely create a sort of unification amount the players after the games. As team captain Ethan Hacker stated. " What he does brings us all together no matter how much we despise each other." So why should the district be bothered by a small group of players who willingly decide to participate in prayer ? Even in the NFL, players gather around each other before and after games to sing a prayer.
In the Ted Talk, Let’s Treat Violence Like a Contagious Disease, physician and epidemiologist, Dr. Slutkin, explains how his credentials in treating infectious diseases brought him to view violence as a public health issue. According to Dr. Slutkin, after analyzing graphs and data, it appeared that patterns of violence in US cities seemed to behave similarly to patterns of contagious disease. He said that “there was clustering, similar to that we’d seen also in infectious epidemics such as cholera.” These data showed that there were waves of violence, one after the other. This is just how contagious diseases behave because epidemics are combinations of many epidemics. In addition, it was shown that the greatest predictor of a case of violence is a preceding case of violence. Just as with the flu, the greatest risk factor of contagious disease is being exposed to the disease.
In To Kill A Mockingbird, Harper Lee’s depiction of Scout’s personality and aspects differs from the stereotyped ideal little girl. Lee uses Scout’s environment and relations to influence her persona. Jem has an effect on her character, for he told Scout when she was young that she “was being a girl” (Lee 54). Scout wants her brother’s approval and she wants to play with him which takes away from her femininity. Aunt Alexandra influences Scout differently compared to Jem.

In the novel Into the Wild by Jon Krakauer, Chris McCandless takes a wild journey. Although some believe that his journey and thought process was noble and courageous, he was actually extremely fatuous throughout his journey. Many people that Chris met along the way made remarkable attempts at making him aware of the dangers that he would surely face in Alaska. Chris McCandless knowingly stepped into the treacherous wild without being prepared for what reality would throw his way.
At the beginning of the movie after the first loss the coach told the team that winning is everything. This is important because throughout the movie I was able to see a change in the characters as they learned more about themselves. They were able to learn that winning wasn’t everything but learned that it’s important that they keep playing the game. During the funeral someone says, “The Lord giveth, the Lord taketh away.” This was important to me because I can relate this to religion. There isn’t a real answer of why things happen the way that they do. It’s not in our control but a person can get through the tragedy by surrounding themselves with loved ones. That’s what I personally saw while watching the movie because the team rose beyond the ashes by having each other’s backs. The win at Marshall University was important because everyone in the town came together to watch the game. It just showed me that life keeps moving on but a person should never forget. In addition, another example is when Jack saw the West Virginia helmet has a MU on the back. This showed the role of religion in the community and how it unites people when times harsh, hence allowing the coaches to watch film in the opposing school’s campus. For religion and sports I believe that they are intertwined with each other. I say this because in the movie the players had faith and wanted to keep the team alive. By taking each day one at a time they were able to rise from the ashes and keep the program going. Even though the team wasn’t any good the University looked towards the light and saw this as a new beginning without forgetting about the past. Football kept the town going and allowed for people to remember the tragic
Edgar Allan Poe has a unique writing style that uses several different elements of literary structure. He uses intrigue vocabulary, repetition, and imagery to better capture the reader’s attention and place them in the story. Edgar Allan Poe’s style is dark, and his is mysterious style of writing appeals to emotion and drama. What might be Poe’s greatest fictitious stories are gothic tend to have the same recurring theme of either death, lost love, or both. His choice of word draws the reader in to engage them to understand the author’s message more clearly. Authors who have a vague short lexicon tend to not engage the reader as much.
Chris Mccandless was a man that many would call crazy or maybe even immoral. He left everything to live in the wild and become “one with nature”. He had determination, a strong mindset, fearlessness and courage. I believe that my life and the life of Chris Mccandless are not similar in any aspect. In fact I wish that my life was more like his and that I had the drive and determination to do what he did.
Cultural borders play a major role in educational systems. A teacher must be able to acknowledge the cultural differences within a classroom, and properly develop a curriculum that is suitable for the diversity. “Transcending Cultural Borders: Implications for Science Teaching” by Olugberimo J. Jegede and Glen S. Aikenhead, explain that an education system suitable for all cultures can be achieved, by giving special attention to the variety of cultures within a class. Minimizing the cultural borders within the educational system will benefit the future of society as a whole, by uniting students with the basis of an education.
