Ever since the first newspaper there has been bias in the media. Every night almost half of the New Zealand population tunes into one news show or another. This essay will argue how bias in the media can heavily affects societies thoughts & opinions. The world would be much better off without bias in everyday media. One of the main reasons for media bias is that people benefit from it. So who does benefit the most from media bias? A prime example to look at for this whole topic is the US election of 2016 between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton. As you all know Trump was the eventual winner, but it wasn’t made easy for him by the national and even worldwide media. In a poll ran by USA Today (The biggest newspaper in America) they asked "Who do you think the mainstream media would like to see elected president?" In this poll an incredible 75% thought the media preferred Clinton while only 7% thought they preferred Trump. The news here in NZ is very anti trump. Almost every night they're slamming trump or his ideas in some way even though he's now president. During the election, media across the globe were publishing articles or segments saying something bad about Trump whether it be 'fake news' or actually true. The media isn't even hiding the fact they're being biased anymore. The whole thing about the 'locker room talk' was just that, but news establishments around the globe kept making a new article about it every single day. A few days before the final election
