Medical Assistant Personal Statement

The Physician Assistant (PA) and Nurse Practitioner (NP) career fields were the medical fields’ response to the physician shortage that began in the 1960s, but the shortage still exists today. As the population continues to grow, the gap continues to grow as well. Medical schools were having a hard time producing as many doctors that were needed to fill in the gaps in a timely manner, leaving the medical field looking for ways they could have health care providers diagnose and treat patients, but educated in half the time of a doctor. The PA program was then born out of the military. Medical doctors watched as military doctors and medics came back, but they had no formal training except for on-the-job training. The NP program was derived from previous midwifery program. Currently, as the physician shortage is still impending more and more PAs and NPs are being hired to fill in the gaps. This is causing many questions to arise: Are they qualified?, What kind of education do they have?, and Should I feel safe?. Patients want to know that they are getting excellent care, and that their medical providers are qualified to diagnose and treat patients accurately.

I am honored and thankful for the opportunity to seek re-election to the NSAA Board of Directors as a Member at Large for my second consecutive term. I am a Veteran of the United States Navy and I am employed by American Surgical Professionals in Corpus Christi, TX as a Cardio-Thoracic Surgical Assistant for the past seven years. Serving on such a distinguished Board of Directors has had a profound impact on how deeply committed I am in continuing to establish directives with the board to help promote the professional and personal excellence of each surgical assistant nationwide. Unity among our profession is paramount in successfully addressing our legislative and organizational challenges that we face as individuals and as a whole. Together

I always had interest in a clinical research career that serves a large number of people by emphasizing more on research studies by exploring whether a medical strategy, treatment or device is safe and effective for humans. As a graduate in medicine, my strong base in the medical field continually challenged and motivated me to expand my skills in patient care. My coursework has allowed me to develop a keen understanding of how disruption in biological systems can influence one’s health.

The physician assistant (PA) profession has been described as “one of the greatest innovations of the last half of the 20th century.”1(p1) The profession has been established for less than fifty years, but it has managed to develop and expand vastly within those years consisting of more than 105,000 certified physician assistants and more than 170 accredited physician assistant programs. Simply stated, a physician assistant is defined as a certified medical professional responsible for providing medical care and treatment under the supervision of a physician. In order to completely understand the role and importance of physician assistants in the medical field, the history of the profession must be acknowledged.

The desire and passion and the strong interest I have for a profession in the care industry derives from my role as a care assistant, which I have enjoyed for the past nine years .The role has been challenging and extremely rewarding at the same time, I am genuinely a compassionate individual but my role has also taught me to be more patient and empathetic when assisting someone. Growing up I never thought that I would one day be so passionate about something in my life. I did not really think much about the future nor what I wanted to do with my life. From where I come from it is normal that after finishing school girls marry, have children and become housewives for the rest of their lives.

Physician assistant (PA) is a career that allows an individual to work independently to treat patients. While the physician is available to reference if any questions or concerns arise about patient care issue. The position of PA is diverse, and the delegated duties may range from surgical assistant to family practice. If a PA chooses to specialize then their knowledge and training is revered to be desired by employers. The career is fast growing and beneficial as a mid-level practitioner for physicians.

The biggest challenge that Physician Assistances face is when a patient questions their competency or their ability to care for them. PA’s are one of the youngest allied health fields and some people are unaware of the role of a physician assistant. The best way to reassure the patient that they are being properly taken care of is to educate the patient on the topic of Physician Assistant. The first Physician Assistant program started in 1960 in the military, to help with the growing need for primary care doctors (Mittman). Physician Assistance must first obtain a four year degree with a competitive GPA of 3.6 or

Being a Medical Assistant you must be prepared to face the various types of emergencies. Two most common emergencies that a Medical assistant will be facing are seizures and fainting. In appearance it would seem that fainting and seizures are a little similar they both disrupt the normal consciousness.

Introduction To whom it may concern: My name is Andrea Marie Johnson. I am currently attending Amos Alonzo Stagg Senior High School in Stockton, California. Also, I am taking a class called Heath Careers Academy for becoming a Medical Assistant. I decided to join the Academy because I am real interested into helping animals and people.

I think it is best to do a little more research on these Organizations. I recently just took the (CMAA) to be a Certified Medical Administrative Assistant. I ‘m still looking for work it is a little hard for me to do with class work that has to be done. I’m live in Springfield so I will be looking into what the jobs here prefer you to have as a medical assistant. I may also do some calling around to different facilities that hire medical Assistants to help make my decision. I think so far that the (CMA) Certified Medical Assistant will suit me and give me enough time to find work.

“Your optimism is killing me,” a patient replied after my attempt to encourage her to try to stand up, so she could attend a physical therapy session. Though I took her comment with a grain of salt, it was the cornerstone for the reputation I would build during my career as a Physical Therapist Assistant. Most clinicians shy away from challenging personalities; not me, I strive to be different. It’s been three years since that patient discharged home against medical advice. which ignited fuel to the fire of continuing to pursue my undergraduate degree.

My experience and skills are surpassed only by my enthusiasm to effectively meet the challenges before me. I am a highly capable, motivated, and energetic individual that enjoys working with others towards successful solutions. My leadership style incorporates motivation through positive feedback and support plus straightforwardness and open communication that builds trust and loyalty among my peers and patients alike. Throughout my personal experiences, education, and athletic career I have honed the ability to be a leader in times where others look for leadership. Leadership is not given; a confident, competent, and motivated individual takes leadership of a situation.

Life may bring endless opportunities in which can shape and form a lifestyle. Opportunities allow each person to be individual and experience unique commodities. Personally, I have come to find that the career internship program has been a life changing opportunity. As it taught me great morals, the internship allowed me to get a hands on experience with my future.

There are more than 100,000 certified Physician Assistants practicing medicine in the United States. PA’s have a very high starting salary and get to do a lot of hands on work. After just two years of schooling you can come out making an average of $94,000. Being stuck at a desk all day is dreadful, and physician assistants get to choose what they want their work environment to look like. Job opportunities for a PA are expected to go up by more than thirty percent between 2010 and 2020. When you are a PA you have a huge amount of flexibility to choose your specialization. I know that a PA is the best career choice for me because i love to work with people and enjoy social interaction, i love to have flexibility to be able to spend time with my family, and there are very good benefits and there will always be job openings.

I seek a physician assistant program that will help me to reach my goal of becoming an excellent clinician. In order for me to reach my goal, there are certain criteria specific to my learning style that I deem imperative for a PA program to have. These criteria include a small class size that will promote a positive learning environment, curriculum that is reinforcing, and goals of preparing students to be leaders, educators and clinicians who consider each patient as a whole. Penn State’s PA Program meets these criteria, which lead to my decision to apply.
