You lightly run your hands over the seamless white lace. Let the satin gently slide between your fingers. You stare at your reflection, quite certain that you are dreaming. You are a vision in white. An angelic goddess. It is your wedding day, and everything has fallen together just as you envisioned when you were a little girl. Nothing could ruin this moment of pure joy; or so you thought. Suddenly your parents burst into the room spitefully bickering about nothing in particular, just as they have your entire life. The ingredients used to create a dream wedding, such as a white satin gown, or a three-tiered wedding cake, are not enough to form an everlasting marriage. Divorce rates have drastically increased over the past decade. This fluctuation of unhappiness among married couples may be due to a wide variety of issues. However, sociologist Medora Barnes has sought to pinpoint it down to one primary issue, the lack of a solid foundation in family structure.
Researcher Medora Barnes sought to explore the effect divorce has had on the evolution of the American family structure within the past decade, and how this change is impacting the weddings, and long term marriages of couples in this generation.
