Meeks Park: Field Study

I conducted my field study research project at Meeks Park on October 28th, 2015 in Blairsville, Georgia. I chose Meeks Park for the location of my field study research because I rarely leave my house, but when I do, I usually go to Walmart and Meeks Park on my occasional trips to town. Since I am not fond of grocery shopping, I am always excited to visit Meeks Park with my family. Although Meeks Park serves as the setting for many events and festivals throughout the year, there were no events or festivals taking place the day I visited the park. The trails are well-kept, and easy to navigate; moreover, the trails are situated in beautiful, serene woods. There a couple of bridges that goes over waterways in a couple of spots that provide calming views of the flowing waters. (I know this is not the focus of my research, but I had to include how picturesque the scenery is). While strolling along the trails, we passed various people. Most people were alone; there were only two occasions where we walked by two people. Some people were jogging, and others were just walking along the trail. Although the encounters with others were short-lived as we walked along the trails, every one we came across acknowledged us by saying hello or with a wave. At one point along the trail we found a box inside of a tree stump that had a piece of paper with names, a pencil, and other various items. I am not very familiar with geocaching, but I recognized the finding as that activity. The paper included signatures of people I did not know, as well as dates. The piece of paper was nearly four years old, and my children and I incorporated our own signatures. We also added our own various objects; my daughter left a hair bow, my son left a flower he picked, and I left a quarter. In most instances, my interactions with others were limited, and I operated as a complete observer. With the exception of the woman annoyed with the children getting her wet, all other observations were enjoyable. Perhaps being in such a peaceful and beautiful place brings out the friendliness and warmth in most people. None of the people I observed were much different from each other, besides some people were younger or older. However, each individual had clearly chosen a wonderful place to relax and enjoy. My observations have led me to consider that being in a peaceful environment can have an immense effect on behavior and
