In this short assignment the author has chosen one of many risk assessment tools to carry out an appropriate assessment on Danny from case study one. A number of different risk assessment tools are applicable to Danny including a suicide risk assessment form, becks depression scale and a comprehensive risk assessment, however due to a restricted word count the author will only explore one of these in greater detail. The author has chosen to critically discuss the value of the mandatory mental health brief risk screening tool (Department of Health, 2012) in the overall management of risk to
Teaching and learning the mental state examination (MSE) to post-graduate nursing student or professional to improve skills and knowledge to document findings during assessment of the patient/client, and would improve the quality of documentation of patient's mental states.
This paper explores three different commonly administered mental health assessments. These three assessments are The Mental Status Exam (MSE) (brief version), The Beck Depression Inventory (BDI), and The Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI). The MSE is for client mental status. The BDI accesses the level of depression a client is experiencing. The BAI accesses the level of anxiety a client is experiencing. In doing this assignment and the different practice assessments, we will get comfortable with the instruments that are utilized as a part of diagnosing and additionally treating clients with mental health illness issues. These basic tools are helpful for HUS experts to portray and comprehend the mental status of a client. While acquiring these assessments, certain data is required. The purpose, value, and usefulness of these assessments will be explained. For this paper, an anonymous pretend client will be created and a practice MSE assessment will be conducted and reported. The outcomes give a more overall comprehension of what is happening with the client so that the client can get the best treatment for their psychological illness. That overall comprehension accompanies limitations because there is not enough information provided to adequately
The results from calculating the contribution margin demonstrate that the Mental Health program did not have a favorable year. The program has caused the community center to be in debt for $95,000. The program is costly to operate and the loss of close to $100,000 which makes it a financial burden rather than an asset to the community center.
Researchers in Europe and Asia have found an association between family size and suicide through population-level research (Kemppainen, et. al., 1999; Chen, et. al., 2013; and Riordan, Morris, Hattie, & Stark, 2012); however, research on other mental health risks such as suicidal ideation, suicide attempts, and depression are not as thoroughly researched in relation to family size, and none of the previous research was conducted through cross-sectional surveys. This research was often conducted by looking at birth and death records. In addition, the results of the previous research are, in many cases, outdated and cannot be applied to the U.S. population. The objective of this research study is to examine these mental health risks within the young adult population through a mixed-methods approach, through a cross-section survey of individuals ages 18-29 and by accessing data on patients hospitalized for depression, suicidal ideation, or suicide attempts from inpatient psychiatric facilities. Samples will be taken from Minnesota counties with average family sizes that are larger than the Minnesota state average, in an attempt to recruit participants from unusually large families. Within these two samples, risks will be compared between male and female young adults. If family size is associated with these mental health risks, clinicians can better screen patients within larger families to identify potential need for intervention.
Today was blah. It usually start off really good. I meet my patients have a little chit chat to start off our OT session. Today it seems like it was my best day to evaluate people with mental health disorders. Today I was just not in the mood to hear about their life stories.
It has been estimated that 1 in 5 adults suffers from diagnosable mental health problems (Center for Behavioral Health Statistics in Quality (CBHSQ), 2015). These mental health problems can be disabling, severely affecting one’s ability to function, and causing increased health concerns resulting in early mortality (Mechanic, 2012; Walker, 2014). Even so, mental health treatment has been shown to be an underserved area of healthcare (Kesslar, Chui, Demler, Merkangas, & Walters, 2005). Nearly a third of those who are insured currently lack coverage for services related to substance use disorders and mental health treatment, including the inpatient crisis intervention and stabilization. The lack of health insurance coverage creates
In this report my aim is to select a mental health condition or illness where I will critically evaluate on how the service users are supported in their recovery and treatment processes by a mental health services or private provider nor third sector support organisation. The mental health condition I’ll be discussing about is on Anxiety and panic attack, where I’ll be explaining what Anxiety and panic attacks are, who suffer the most form Anxiety and panic attack, symptoms of anxiety and panic attack, treatments, medication, supporting my type of mental health services, either private provider or third sector support organisation. I will also be given an account of some people experiences on how they feel and if the treatment and the
I’ve chosen to discuss the negative affects of a consumer-based health care system on patients primarily within the mental healthcare industry. In this research proposal, I plan to dismantle facets of the mental health rehabilitation process and show how it isn’t necessarily made in favour of the patient. As a volunteer of a leading mental health institution, I’ve found that there are some ways in which aspects as miniscule as the diction regarding the patients can be rethought and rectified. At this centre, they’ve specifically asked volunteers and workers to refer to the patients as strictly: “clients”. I found that phrasing strange considering it negates the medical perspective and creates a disconnect between the primary focus of what a
Social work plays a key role in the diagnosis, treatment and day to day living of individuals who have a mental illness. The Australian Government Department of Health (2014) defines mental illness as “a health problem that significantly affects how a person feels, thinks, behaves, and interacts with other people”. The social work profession has numerous dealings with this client base through a multiplicity of practice contexts. It is therefore imperative that social workers have the capacity to be able to recognise and appropriately respond to the needs of the individual; understanding how mental illness may impact on an emotional, psychological, physical and cognitive level.
Most of the data used to estimate prevalence of a mental illness is collected through cross-sectional studies that are obtained retrospectively. As a whole, Almansa et al. (2014) go even further to state that “epidemiological studies about lifetime disorders typically do not use adequate methods of analysis” (Almansa et al., 2014). Due to this cross-sectional study design and retrospective data collection, the estimations of lifetime prevalence obtained by direct computation tend to underestimate the actual lifetime prevalence for the given mental illness or disorder (Almansa et al., 2014). In order to understand how some of these basic prevalence calculations are made, consider the following provided example.

We have perceived how the association of families and caregivers enhances the quality of life for the patient, facilitates caregivers' burden, encourages adherence to treatment and expands patients' capacity to adapt to the illness. The World Health Organization characterizes mental health as "a state of well-being in which each understands his or her potential, can adapt to the ordinary stresses of life, can work profitably and productively, and can make a commitment to her or his community. As an individual, you must acknowledge you are experiencing a mental health problem which can be very scary, and it can be hard to ask for help because of the feeling of shame and may want to hide this concern from family. Therefore, it is important to know that having feelings of worries, distress or frightening experiences get support and information about what can do for yourself, and on what is helpful for friends, family and others. To assess a case is to test a person who suffers psychological disorders. This assessment tests the importance, seriousness and features of the problem are tested. The assessment with the aim of giving treatment is a special test that requires determining the type of problem (if it is classified in a clear typology of the diagnostic system used), the factors that could have caused it and the factors that maintain the disorder. Assessment with the aim of treatment means to identify the targets of the treatment and easiest way to reach them. Given that the assistance is considered a process of learning that could be expensive, it is essential to contemplate the testing of the motivation to undergo a change
This report comprises the outcomes of a survey into attitudes to mental illness conducted on October 2015. Based on a survey conducted in the community, 16 individuals were surveyed upon who has had an education (basic, intermediate and advance) and knew or vaguely knew someone with a mental illness. Though the primary sources of information were students, the survey also engaged directly with older associates 25 years and older who completed the survey.
I have chosen to demonstrate my understanding of this module by focussing on the subject of abnormal psychology, in particular mental ill-health. I was interested in furthering my knowledge of mental ill-health following one shift where my colleague and I were required to treat four patients who had attempted to commit suicide. This essay will begin by defining abnormal psychology and mental health. It will then discuss current statistics regarding mental ill-health as well as discuss causes, the various disorders and how they affect the individual. This essay will then review risk factors that can place an individual at higher probability a mental illness. Furthermore, it will discuss suicide and how the joint royal colleges ambulance liaison committee (JRCALC) suicide and self-harm risk assessment form can be utilised by ambulance clinicians to evaluate patients. This essay will conclude by discussing why knowledge of mental health will benefit me as an ambulance clinician.
