Recently, Literacy Mid-South was just recognized in the Memphis Business Journal for our partnership with a company called MentorMe. MentorMe is a platform used generally for mentoring programs, however because of our decentralized adult program we were the first adult education organization to adapt it. MentorMe has allowed tutors, learners and staff to interface in a new way. Similar to facebook, however because it’s accessed by children is incredibly user friendly for low-literate adults. Tutors and now learners can report progress and give feedback on their sessions. We also received national recognition for the first ever adult tutor app. The app allows tutors to access information, report sessions, see events, contact staff, and
Attached is a completed application for the mentoring program I would like to pursue. Not sure if I have overstepped my boundary, but I have discussed this with my RA, Nick Lalpuis, and he supports the proposal. I also discussed this with Laura Watson this morning and she is in agreement with it as well. Please advise if there are any additional documentation or steps I need to go through to get
I want to be a mentee because the Mentorship program is a fantastic way to familiarize with the school and meeting people with other background. Obviously, as an incoming freshman, I do not know much people, so the Mentorship program as a chance to break the ice and to make connections in school and among peers. Also, I am not familiar with the state of Michigan, so the program also serves as an opportunity to get accustomed with the new environment, the new climate, and the new culture. I was born and raised in Taiwan, and moved to California five years later; I realize the difference from one place to another. Michigan is a whole new place and it is imperative that I learn how to adjust and behave in an appropriate way. Through the program,
Throughout my years at MELS I have grown academically and socially. When I first entered high school, I did not know what to expect and I relied on my brother’s experience in high school as a guide for myself. Although I had to encounter different situations, his advice assisted me in the smallest things like doing homework and choosing courses. However, I still had to
Looking back, I can remember my freshman self being ecstatic about finally being in high school with the older kids. I was eager to try new things and meet new people. In the first month of school, freshmen were introduced to their freshman mentors who taught advisement lessons and were meant to serve as guides to assist students in their first year of high school. I looked up to mentors; they were the first upperclassmen besides my relatives that I knew. However, my mentors failed to do their specified job. During lessons, they neglected to keep students engaged in the topic and did not show up prepared or with enthusiasm. They acted as if they were too cool and didn’t serve as a positive role model for freshman. My experience that year is
Throughout my high school years, and the past year especially, I feel that I’ve grown and matured while developing my skills in multiple areas. Through participation in community service events and employment, the experiences I’ve gained have caused me to want to continue expanding my knowledge in a university setting.
"Um, why does any of this matter to you." Disbelief swept over my mind, I couldn't believe the attitude. It was my first day as a mentor in success when I quickly realized this was not going to be an easy year. The girl that I was chosen to mentor became my biggest challenge. She refused to work, much less talk to me. Over time she began to open up, I soon found out what no one wants to hear, she did not have a very stable, content home life. Although it was difficult to keep her motivated with these struggles constantly in the back of her mind, I knew I had to be understanding. We worked together day after day, on her grades as well as her overall well being. The university motto, Ut Prosim - (That I May Serve) was the foundation of our learning
For the past several months, my internship has been at a standstill. Although, recently things have started to move along. Connection with my mentor was not the best, but now it has been re-established. I know now which days are best for my mentor, which days have the most customers who seek naturopathic advice, and my mentor is giving me access to reading materials. These materials and time spent with my mentor will give me much needed knowledge about naturopathic and holistic solutions to ailments.
I am initiating a meeting with you based on dialogue I had with my manager, Andrew Raven. He believes that under your tutelage I can be informed and guided accordingly to realize my career goals.
I can make a great impact on my campus as a teacher leader by following the model of mentoring new teachers. This upcoming school year, I will have two new teachers coming on campus to teach third grade. This article was perfect timing for me to process how to best serve these teachers as a mentor using one instructional process at a time. Mentoring is not a buddy, but an instructional support member focused on improving instruction. In addition, our campus is a firm believer in the discussion based teaching. Brondyk and Stanulis state, “as students articulate their thinking and analyze and respond to the ideas of others, they learn to formulate arguments, deepen their understanding of the content, and develop critical thinking skills” (2014,
Mentorship is an asset for anyone attempting to learn something new. According to Merriam-Webster dictionary a mentor is a trusted counselor or guide. To me this implies someone that you up to and have access to via direct communication and not an idol, such as a celebrity, who you do not have any contact. Everyone has some form of mentorship in their life. In athletics, there are always teammates or coaches that train and challenge a person. In education, there are teachers and upperclassmen. In the workplace, senior coworkers and supervisors fulfill the role. No matter where a person is in life, there is always an individual who can assist them through guidance and encouragement.
The semiautonomous wheelchair, designed for ALS patients, moved slowly but gracefully across the long hallway littered with dusty computers and worn-out springsand old electronic devices, successfully avoiding any collisions. , avoiding all obstacles.

Having this mentorship program at the Western University of Health Science proved to be very beneficial therefore having a similar program in the business world could have the same results. Requiring all senior employees to become mentors would the foundation to the program. Once these employees have enrolled then they would be paired up with a newer employee who has similar goals as they do. In order to encourage the mentor and protégé to have meetings, an incentive should be used like the pharmaceutical company. Having a program like this would eliminate any assumptions of inappropriate behavior between the mentor and protégé. This would also allow more women to be mentored because the program would pair them up based on their goals and
Ethics is a code of behaviour and thinking governed from combination of legal, social, personal and moral standards of what is right. However the definition of ‘right’ differs with the cultures and situations. Supervisors, advisors and mentors showcase an important role in professional development of the trainee. Mentors’ role is significant for practising formative role under ethical development of trainees and students in the manner where professional and ethical values are conveyed, both unconsciously and consciously (Kass, 2001).
