Being in the military and working 70 hours a week is very stressful. If you tag on going to school and having tests and projects due on a certain day life might even seem overwhelming at times. One of the things i have always been good at is managing my time. I focus on the goals i have set for myself and what needs to be done to accomplish those goals. However, i can’t be studying and working 24/7 so i have to make time to relax and reenergize at the same time. The strategy that i use to manage my time is simply writing down what i need to accomplish in the up-coming week. This allows me to visualize what i need to accomplish for school as-well as any upcoming tasks that need to be completed for work. One thing that has always helped me
One things that keep me from being successful in college is time management. Time management is a big issue because I remember I never use my time wisely. I never get a change to give myself time where I can enjoy my life and have fun. Whenever school started I became a stressful person because I wouldn't stop thinking how I’m going to finish my work. I also thought of how I wasn't going to pass the class. It's a stressful season for me. I remember back from my sophomore years in high school, I never finish my work on time. I didn't spend to much time on studying because I was too busy doing other things rather than spend time doing my homework and studying. Yes, maybe I need to take break from doing my homework, but taking break can also
I find that setting priorities is a lot easier than when I was in grade school. For one thing I have matured a lot more over the years; secondly; being in the military taught me to prioritize on a daily basis. To me there is no easier way to prioritize than to make a to-do list. Making a list with the most important things helps you to stay focused and keeps you on schedule. You have to learn to balance out school, work, and family life all at once. It can get challenging from time to time. By making a schedule you find it easier to do. According to, “Taking Control of Your Time”, it is important to inform your family and employer of your academic responsibilities. Informing your employer helps
Just last year I worked Full TIME as a Business Analyst, took care of my kids and then assisted with my new granddaughter as my daughter worked and depended on me to get her from home to work and vice versa. Not to mention, I was a FULL TIME student in school. So TIME MANAGEMENT was always a key factor that I had the hardest time to figure out. I found myself stressing over the small things, getting upset at situations I could not control with countless of sleepless night with taking care of the family and trying to find me time. As I completed this activity sheet I can see where my challenges were and this time I know what to expect. Now that I am not working I have more time for school and I am more focused.
Having gone through STP, I learned that I still need help combating procrastination. My time management throughout the Summer Transitional Program was the best that it has ever been in my entire schooling career. However, I know that my time management still needs to improve in order for me to easily complete each assignment. One thing that has been a tremendous help was learning how to implement a to-do list and writing assignments down. Having a schedule makes it easier to remember what I have to do.
For example, I work four days a week, 5:50 am until 4:20 pm, with a 1-hour commute from home, to work if I'm lucky. With limited time for coursework, I decided to start out with a smaller class schedule. Instead of taking a full-time schedule, I enrolled in part-time coursework this semester. Doing so allows me to dedicate time during the week for each of my two classes. Secondly, I plan to utilize tools like outlook calendars to plan out my weeks in advance. In my professional career, setting aside blocks of time for meetings, projects, and also unexpected variables has allowed me to be successful in time management. I found that setting daily and weekly goals kept my time organized. Planning ahead also helped me to get more accomplished ahead of schedule. This assures time for the unexpected to happen. I feel applying this concept to my college level coursework will prove to be
I still remember the day when I was busy typing my first narrative essay using other's computer in the dormitory. I had no idea about controlling time due to schedule at that time. In this semester, I have never forgot my homework or hurried to do homework that was due the next day. Although I have more homework and projects than last semester, I've never felt anxious and worried because of them. Good time control can help me with my daily life. I will have to do plenty of things by myself in the future. I cannot manage to do those things all together, so I need to practice myself. And time control can help me arrange the schedule efficiently.
Making a daily list of tasks is useful. Number them in order of priority, and deal with the crucial or difficult tasks early. Cross items off as you finish them, both to keep track of your progress as well as to give you a sense of satisfaction and achievement as you get through the list. If you don't get through all items, don't beat yourself up about it. Recognise and allow for unpredictable
After reviewing both my work schedule and school assignments I plan out my week accordingly so as to maximize the effectiveness of the time allotted. Another coping skill I am using is proper nutrition to ensure that my body remains fully fueled and hydrated. I believe healthy eating is often overlooked due to its simplicity, but many adverse effects can happen when we do not properly feed ourselves. A third way I am handling the stress of graduate school and working full-time is to reward myself once I complete an assignment. The rewards include watching one, and only one, television episode on Netflix, playing a driving game on my phone for 30 minutes, or doing nothing at all for 30
Everyone who works is on a schedule: mailmen who need to deliver mail, chefs/cooks who need to time so everything’s ready together, doctors with their endless patients- almost every profession you could think of! This is why working while in high school can slowly, but surely instill good time management- and how to balance the time. It’s undeniable that balancing school, homework, a job and extracurricular activities can be extremely tricky, however, with some time management and scheduling it can become slightly easier. Plus a balanced schedule gives room for possible grade improvements! The limited amount of time left in the week, becomes motivation to get the school work instead of delaying it and doing it at the last
In the V-Camp read section which Cindy Chambers talks about Time Management one of her tips that I like is, to start on an outline use a scratch sheet of paper, Microsoft Word and a google document to give you the idea on the essay you want to write (Chambers, 2015). Another tip you can use is to find a quiet place to complete your school work and study so that your mind can be at ease. I read
Time management is a crucial skill for everyday task completion, especially when there are several obligations that must be fulfilled. The ability to keep track of every aspect of daily life can prove extremely challenging, as I would most certainly come to know firsthand. Approximately 6 years ago I decided to enlist in the United States Army after considering it as a possibility for many years. My decision would lead me to embark on a journey in pursuit of self- awareness and the opportunity to serve my country as I had always dreamed of doing. One of the very first crucial lessons that I learned from the very moment that I shipped off for Basic Combat Training (BCT) in Fort Benning, Georgia on that sweltering 4th day of May in 2010 was that
Knowing that I have my class work scheduled to be done with days to spare in case of an emergency is encouraging. I also enjoy knowing what needs to be done every day in order to stay on track. On the other hand, it is discouraging to not be able to work uninterrupted in those blocks of time that I have set aside to get my school work completed. My children come in to talk to me frequently, while I am trying to study, slowing me down. I have had a friend offer to let me come to her house to work without interruptions. This may be something that I have to start doing. My classes are taking a lot of time right now. I hope I will work faster as I adjust to being a student
After being of school for a long time, I find that the aspect of writing that generates the most anxiety in me, is the anticipation of the deadline. I find it very stressful because I take so long to get started and waste so much time trying to find the write topic. How can I manage my time better? Why is it taking me so long to figure it all out? What techniques can I apply to make this process easier, so my assignments can be completed on time?
Effective time management skills are important when trying to juggle family, work, and school. After completing the time management worksheet, I feel I have a pretty good handle on my time management. The majority of my time is spent at work, evenings and weekends are set aside for family, and certain days of the week are set aside for school. In an article in the Educational and Technology Journal, it was stated that time management strategies are linked to being able to prioritize tasks. It also stated that learners are able to better organize tasks when they have higher time management skills (Jo, Kim and Yoon, 2015).
Keeping a personal schedule or calendar can assist in prioritizing important dates, deadlines, and goals (Martinez Tucker, 2002). Asking for assistance from friends, family, and neighbors can also provide support. Finally, engaging in various stress relieving activities may prevent students from feeling overwhelmed.
