One type of child care program described in Chapter 7 of the Morrison text that could interest me is that of Family child care. Simply put, there is a smaller ratio of children to adults, “provides a comfortable homelike environment” ( Morrison, 2015, p.210) offering a mix of children ages and “flexible days and hours depending on parents’ needs” (Morrison, 2015, p.210) in which case I could accommodate my work hours to a parent’s work hours. The other type of child care program I would enjoy working in as described in Chapter 7 of the Morrison text is that of Military Child Care because as a military child, I know the difficulty parents have with daycare due to their jobs in the military. What appeals to me in this area is that of being
Being a parent transformed me in unexpected ways. I found myself wanting to provide for my daughter and later my son the same security and benefits my parents had provided for me. I found a job at University Children’s Center. UCC provides care for children from the ages of 6 weeks to 6 years and I wanted to be close to my children. I worked with all the age groups but found my niche in the infant program. I enjoyed the close bonds I was able to form with both the babies and their families. I took great pride in creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. I took classes to become Infant Nursery Room Supervisor. Once again, I excelled in my studies and enjoyed the learning process. Bringing the information I learned into the classroom was
I have been a military child for my entire life. I’ve lived in five states on the East Coast, across the Atlantic in England, in the desert of Southern California, and finally, I’m home in Vermont. Moving roughly every two years has been difficult; but, despite this challenge, my “military child” experience has given me many positive advantages. I’ve been exposed to many different cultures, places, and people, and this has broadened my worldview and given me the tools I need to be a successful college student.
. The daycare and child development business is booming and profits are soaring. With more people looking at the child care field from different angles, these type of programs have more opportunities for more allies and partners, for funding and positive public relations, for improving, and “professionalizing” the programs that we offer to our children in our communities. Non-profit groups and higher education have increasingly partnered with schools, often including after-school hours.
Americans that work too many long shifts affect the lives of the people around them too. For instance, one statistic from a Family Matters Survey done by The National Partnership for Women & Families in 1998 found that, “70% of working fathers and working mothers report they don’t have enough time for their children”.Another statistic from this survey reported that over 80% of Americans found it diffcult to balance their work life and their personal life. In fact, it is estimated that around 11 million children age 5 and under spend time in a form child care facility every week(Child Care Aware of America). It is also estimated that children whose
Imagine waking up one morning to the dream shattering news that, That your legal status is being stripped along with your career and to make matters worse you might get deported to a country that which they know nothing about. This is the case for the 800,000 dreamers living in the U.S right now after The Department of Homeland Security announced the termination of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.
In implementing a program where veterans and their families can live and get needed resources, I first established connection with community organization. In my focus I asked myself some important questions that set the groundwork for this project. What are some of the areas organizations around the community such as churches and stores? What types of resources will I generate funding from? And what types of programs will be essential to serve the veterans and their families?
America is self-sustaining economy in which every dollar spent regenerates the economy due to the fact that the United States barley relies on exports unlike other colossal nations. DACA, the Deffered Action for Childhood Arrivals is a program that allows immigrants from neighboring countries to enter the United States for an extended period of time in order to acquire an education to prosper further in their lives with the given opportunity. During the lapse of time of these immigrants are given permits in order to work and put money back into our economy until they achieve citizenship. Few people would say DACA is harmful to the United States as a whole; however this program allows opportunity in growing education within the states and makes
Working with children has been my number one career prospect since leaving school, but at first was undecided of the age range. This lead me into attending Franklin College to study English and Psychology at A level. However, felt this was not the right choice for me. After being disheartened from my experience at college I decided to apply for Level 2 Childcare at my local sixth form. I became intrigued by the various approaches to working with children and learning how children develop.
I have worked in the child care field for 25 years. I started my career at an in-home center. On September 15th, I have worked at the center I currently working at for 20 years. Neither one of the centers were very diverse. The center is NAEYC accredited and respect and encourage diversity.

While maybe not as affordable for people on day shift it is more easily obtainable as the public sector caters to the Monday to Friday, weekends off day shift worker. As for the variable shift worker who requires evening, midnights, and weekend care the affordability and access to child care is almost unobtainable. As I live in a city with a large amount of variable shift workers for example in the auto industry, nursing and law enforcement and other cities like mine, the need for variable child care is of great importance. Parents like mine search high and low for quality child care often overburdening relatives and for some family is not even available. Because of the requirement for alternative child care providers outside the 6:30 am to 6:30 pm hours of operation time frame, they are often are unable to work overtime or not able to pursue or accept higher positions. And even less offer available child care on
When my friends would ask me how does it feel to be a military child i would usually always respond with it's ok,because it really is nothing less nothing more, not good, not bad.Being a military child comes with advantages but it also comes with its fair share of disadvantages.Sometimes i couldn't see my life without being in the military, other times i wished i was just a regular civilian
What do military families truly endure to maintain a relationship despite constant time apart during deployments? Husbands and wives are often forced to fill each others role while the other is away. When a parent is not used to being around a child it is hard to know to act and react to the child’s actions. All members of a military family can face some form of post traumatic stress disorder due to the unnatural lifestyle that is lived daily. Deployments cause military families to struggle more so than nonmilitary families due to role reversals, added child maltreatment and PTSD.
Children of military families have endured a lot in support of their parent’s military careers. Many of these children have developed the preverbal thick skin. Others unfortunately have developed problems and issues as they grew up in the military family environment. The strengths and weaknesses of these children are often a source of tension for the military family, and something all that support our active duty service members and veterans needs to be aware of. While there are some caregiver’s that are only in the human service field to earn a paycheck and with the lack of parental involvement in their child’s life, it can make a caregiver’s job more challenging. Daycare centers serve as a stepping stone for a child’s future that will teach them how to establish appropriate skills and aid in the development of their cognitive abilities. Positive child interactions not only aid in the development of social and cognitive development, but also in the child’s self-esteem and it lets them know they are important and loved.
