Military drones (also called an unmanned aerial vehicle, or UAV) are used for carrying out missions that are too risky for military personnel. . The earliest use of a UAV was on August 22nd, 1849, when Australian soldiers launched multiple hydrogen-filled balloons placed with explosives and attacked Venice, Italy. UAVs were later used during the Civil War by tacticians who raised explosive-equipped balloons into the skies. They were unsuccessful with their mission to explode anything, although they did find out UAVs worked well for reconnaissance: the observation of enemy movement and tactics. in the late 1900s, scientists were encouraged to experiment with what are now known as the first warfare UAVs. In the 20th century, strategists yearned technology that would not be just more effective and accurate but also minimize the risk of military personnel. Two of the board members, Elmer Sperry and Peter Cooper Hewitt, invented an aerial torpedo. The purpose of the torpedo was to have it installed in an airplane and remotely flown to its target area. When it reaches its objective, the controller will have it release a bomb or crash into the target. The They subsequently presented their invention to navy representative Lieutenant T.S. Wilkinson in 1916, who immediately suggested to approve more test to determine the torpedoes pros and cons. In 1917, the Navy dedicated $200,000 to Sperry and Hewitt’s torpedo.
