Have you ever sat a thought to your self “If I joined the military would my life be different?” Now when people think of the military they think of going to war and getting yelled at, but there are so many differences between military life and civilian. Most people sometimes believe that military life and civilian life are the same. Now there are a lot of differences their occupational life, living expense and some the freedoms they have.
Occupational life is an example of differences between military and civilian life. In civilian life, you have the choice to work different shifts, day or night, and when your scheduled hours are over, you are able to go home. In Military

Military life you don’t have that freedom. Soldiers are giving and even told when to wear their uniforms.
Living expenses are another example of the differences between military and civilian life. Housing expenses is something civilians continue to worry about. Civilians have to worry about making mortgage or rent payments. Military members don’t have that worry; they are giving extra money to pay their rent and mortgage. Another living expense is food. Military member get three meals a day for free and if you have a family you receive money to feed your family, so as a soldier your food is paid for. Civilians don’t have that luxury; civilians have to pay for their food. Healthcare expenses for military members are free. The military makes sure you have the medicine you need. Now for civilians Healthcare is a big issue 15% of Americans don’t have healthcare. Now In some cases for civilians healthcare benefits are free; but that is base on if your job offers it. One other big difference is education. Education benefits for military members is free they have to worry about getting grant, scholarships or students loan. Military member receive the GI bill which pays for tuition and books. So as for a military member it just when and what school to go to. For civilians it’s kind of different. Civilians have to worry about how they are going to pay for
Its six months before your military retirement date. You have made several preparations for your transition into the civilian world. The one thing you want to do is make sure you have all the checks in the block so that you have a smooth transition where you do not have to worry about anything after you have gone on terminal leave. Even though through the leadership and management styles picked up through a military career, you think you are ready to step out in the civilian world. Military personnel must realize that their lives will soon change; some may have a difficult time transitioning. Suddenly it is your last day in the military. Shock has come upon you. Either let the stress get to you and
Both the Army and the Marine Corps offers similar career opportunities in areas such as infantry, armor, aviation, administration. However, due to the Marine Corps’ attachment with the Navy, it does not directly employ health-care professionals such as nurses, doctors, dentists or psychologists like the Army. Instead, it receives these services from commissioned Navy medical officers.
In the military, the life is not actually too different from what you do now. (Army Daily Life. (n.d.),Paragraph 1) Each base has a store called a commissary which has lots of different groceries and things you need or want for low prices… sort of like a Walmart in the civilian world. (Army Daily Life. (n.d.), Army Shopping, Commissary). One thing that is bad about the military is that you do not get to choose where you live. You have to move among different bases a lot more frequently than that of someone who goes to college. (Sweeney, H., & M. (n.d.), Cons to living on base, The base realignment and closure commission) Another thing that is not good about the army is that some barracks are not as modern as others and might not have exactly everything you need or want to live comfortably. (Sweeney, H., & M. (n.d.), Cons to living on base, Some Military Housing Not Up to Snuff) Also, you are required to live in the barracks, unlike in college you can live at home if you are close enough or you can live in an apartment. You also have to share that living space with at least someone else. (Sweeney, H., & M. (n.d.),Cons to living on Base, Unaccompanied Housing Quarters) With colleges, they most of the time make you share a dorm room with another person, so it may be somewhat similar to that experience with the barracks. So it may be
Serving the United States Military comes with many responsibilities as well as pressure and accountability. However, the military isn’t for everyone, but it offers so much for those who serve. One thing that must be known and dealt with is that this career could be a life threatening one, and there are many obstacles one must go through beforehand.
Every day, there are American citizens who risk their lives for the sake of their country's safety. Men and women who believe that justice, peace, and equality should be served. However, within their beliefs, some choose to exclude transgender individuals who have the same rights and freedoms. The American society considers the world to be progressively changing and growing, however, seem to forget that in order for the military to survive the 21st century, diversity is crucial. Although the medical costs may raise the overall healthcare median per year, transgender individuals should have the right to serve in the U.S. armed forces because any human being who meets the physical qualifications and has a willing attitude should have the right to serve.
“We want leaders that are tough, resilient, that can think, and out-fight and out-smart the enemy. We want them to be adaptive and agile and flexible. And, we want them not only competent, but we want leaders of character.” (General Mark A. Milley, 2015) Character is not a trait we take for granted and most likely have an attraction for, but honestly never had to define when asked about by our superiors and peers. It is a word most Soldiers desire to have their name attached to it, and yet the standards of its realization remains rather vague when spoken about. When the military say that a Soldiers is someone of good character, we mean that they may have many
Many people are concerned about the U.S. military because of how many risks come with joining it. However, the U.S. military also explains the benefits that one could receive. Joining the military is a decision that should not be taken lightly. One must understand all aspects of the military. In order for a voter to be fully informed about joining the US military, one must consider both the risks, like mental illnesses and commitment and benefits, like education, and experience.
The United States Military Protects our Freedom: More men and women volunteers are need for the military.
Moreover, the military also gave me the opportunity to travel abroad. Living in countries such as Korea, Spain, and Germany and immersing myself in their cultures has given me perspective on the differences between the United States and other countries. Each place I have lived has been unique in some way, from the different languages to the variations in cultural practices. Dealing with individuals with different backgrounds has helped me develop a good rapport with people.
According to the Occupational Outlook Handbook members of the U.S military, service maintains the U.S. national defense. The military is made up of enlisted and officer careers. They work with hi-tech machinery to help in the field. People in the military wear uniforms that show their ranks by badges. This job is so important because without the military people would be in danger and lives might not be saved.
Sacrificing their lives serving the United States of America, military personnel at least deserve a worthy home. It is common for military families to move every few years and each time comes with a decision of living in a civilian home of their choice or an assigned family-sized home on the military base to which they are assigned. Both options have their pros and cons: for instance, their differences in privacy, cost effectiveness, and security are all major factors in which home location is the better option.
Military discipline is that mental attitude and state of training which renders obedience instinctive under all conditions. It is founded upon respect for, and loyalty to properly constituted authority. While it is developed primarily by military drill, every feature of military life has its effects on military discipline. It is generally indicated in an individual or unit by smartness of appearance and action; by cleanliness and neatness of dress, equipment, or quarters; by respect for seniors; and by prompt and cheerful
As a military spouse of 12 years and someone who has had the privilege to serve the military community through my professional work as a therapist, my notion of community expands beyond the corners of my local, city, state and country. Bound by a common thread of service, sacrifice, shared values and commitment, the military community spans the world. While it may seem challenging to create hope in a community so expansive, as an optimist and one who is dedicated to serving this community, I believe it is possible. The question, “Upon completion of your NCU MFS degree program, what plan(s) would you develop to make a difference in your community that creates hope?” can be viewed in a two-dimensional manner. Creating hope in this community may be accomplished on a smaller scale through effective, military culture informed therapy and also on a larger scale through research and programming. Upon completion of
Professional soldiers differ from the ordinary citizen particularly in psychological and personal characteristics and qualities. A soldier professional does not want a war, but he wants to be prepared for the worst possible variant of development. We can say that working in the armed forces is characterized by several attributes. I think the expert work, self-improvement, ethics, fulltime commitment and discipline are the most important ones. The expert work comes out from the requirements for controlling highly specialized equipment and procedures that occur only under the conditions of the armed forces. For example, an engineer knows the procedures for mine-clearing, building floating bridges, command and controlling submarines, fire control of air defense systems, logistic equipment transfers and many others. All of these activities call for a maximal professional approach and adherence to precisely specified procedures, which can be achieved only by professionals with many years of experience. So, to move forward and improve our professionalism it is very important to consider self-improvement. In my opinion, learning from experienced master soldiers, be active in self learning and have good motivation are the right ways to succeed. A profession of arms can be, and it certainly is, a dangerous way to meet our life necessities. It would be quite ridiculous if somebody stated he worked for armed forces only for loyalty to the
There are many job oppurtunitiesin the army. Anyone one can join and be anything he wants. In the army everyone has the chance to travel the world. The army has certain benefits and requirements. All of them will be explained.
