Minimum wage is at a drastically low number. It has been 9 years since the last raise in 2009. The minimum wage is way to low for people to live off of. Minimum wage is essential for businesses to have a starting pay that is enough for people to be able to provide for themselves and their family. America needs to make a stand to raise the wage. The minimum wage of the United States of America, should not be increased. The two arguments against the resolution are that an increased minimum wage would hurt American workers, and hurt American businesses.

There are two sides to the minimum wage issue. Many small business are already struggling to make ends meet before the minimum wage was increased. The minimum wage being increased can cause goods for store to go up. Small business that are already barely making it, are going to need to pay workers close to $8,200 more a year, says NPR. The infamous author Mark Twain once said: “The lack of money is the root of all evil.” I believe that is the case for minimum wage employees. They denounce the wealthy for being successful while not trying to improve themselves. Although I firmly believe staff and creators should be treated with equal respect, just as every human being, they are entitled to what they earn. In my perspective minimum wage is acceptable when the job does not require a higher education or degree, as a CEO of a company is expected to have. The topic of the minimum wage for the United States, is a very interesting but complex at the same time. The problem I that some people do not realize nor understand how a business has to roll in order for it to continue. A business has to have an understandable balance where the owner wins, the company wins, the employees win, and the customers win. However, it has not resulted in this manner.

In the United States, most teenagers are encouraged to get a job. Usually it is for extra money to pay for their own gas, but sometimes they are helping to support their family. Their starting wage is usually the minimum wage that our nation has set for businesses. Many large corporations start people at or around this wage and may increase it from there. The United States is unique because most of its jobs come from small businesses. America has given great opportunity for ambitious people to be their own boss and sell their own products. Workers involved in the fast food business especially feel that they deserve more than the current national minimum wage of $7.25. The campaign to raise the national minimum wage to $15 is an unreachable idea. Why is it unreachable?
