The uplifting story of an underdog hockey team at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid, New York is told by the film Miracle. The team is composed of many college hockey players trying to better their game play. Tryouts come and go and it is when Coach Herb Brooks reads the final roster of the 1980 Olympic Men’s Hockey Team that starts the beginning of the greatest moment in sports history.

The characters in the movie portray the actual athletes spot on. Some of the actors never played a game of hockey in their life before acting in Miracle. Aside from an athletic stance, the actors had to speak in a multitude of different accents, the main one being a Boston accent. For every athlete that had an accent, their prospective actor needed to perfect an accent identical to the athletes.

The team itself composes the hero. Their call to adventure is when all the athletes have the opportunity to try out for the Olympics. They meet with their mentor, Herb Brooks, and get the encouragement to play their best for an opportunity on the team. The ordeal in the film is how they are losing and need to win if they want the gold medal. Finally, the reward of Miracle is going from an underdog team of college athletes to a team of gold medalists.

I have seen this film a dozen times and would recommend this to anyone. Regardless if the viewer likes sports or not, this is a film that relives a huge moment in American sports history. Each time I have watched this, I only get more into the hockey games. Miracle is an action filled and thrill packed sports drama meant to cause a nostalgic feeling for those who were able to witness the actual Olympic game. This is one of my all-time favorite movies not only for it being a sports movie, more importantly for it pulling my attention and focus into the movie so much that I feel like a fan at the
