On my last mission trip, I learned that studying the Bible proves a vital piece of Christianity. For example, if a professor lectures a class on history, but he does not study on his material, he cannot defend what he teaches. So as a Christian, I must study the Bible to defend my beliefs. When I conversed to my neighbor once, he said that he did not believe in God and that he questioned why I should believe in God as well. To say the least, I felt quite lost. I did not know how to defend my belief, much less try to convince him why he should believe in God. After the mission trip, I studied my Bible more to have a better ability to defend and share my faith. Just recently, I attended a lock in and had the chance to help a younger student.
A social problem is a condition in which people in the community view as being undesirable. For example, Fort Worth has a high crime, violence, and drug abuse rate, which leads to a high homelessness rate. Social Service Agencies, such as Union Gospel Mission, help decrease the issue of homelessness. Union Gospel Mission, helps Fort Worth eliminate the number of individuals committing crimes, violence, and helps individuals dealing with substance abuse. They provide services that assist individuals in need, such as housing, meals, and employment. The coordinators and the directors of Union Gospel Mission aspire to help various individuals and build a strong organization for the community.
Western Christians in global missions by Paul Borthwick is about the interdependence and unity of the global Church. The book starts at the conclusion of an era of missions where North America has taken the helm. As the global missions community changes, North America needs to reassess its role. There are 4 main integrated points that Borthwick makes that should change the perspective of the white American middle class missionary.
Reading the Bible can help us answer questions we have about our faith. Personally it provides me with a better understanding of what it means to be Christian. Michael Pennock tells us in his book This is Our Faith that Christianity is more than a set of beliefs; it is a way of living. Today, there are many people who claim to be Christian, however, the truth is they do not act like it. Although I believe the majority of Christians are this way there are many exceptions. A great example of this is St. Francis of Assisi, an Italian preacher, who is one of the most respected figures in history. St. Francis was a great man who lived the way a person created in God’s image should live. He provides
Jesus mission on earth is to save all who are lost and separated from God. When He came to earth, He was not born in a house or mansion, He was not born in the hospital, and He was not born in a shack. However, He was born in a stable, which was in the lowest place possible, so that when He started his ascension, He will meet the lowest level of every individual on the face of the earth, meaning that no matter how fallen or worthless anyone thinks they are with their life, Jesus is able to identify Himself with them in their valley’s situation and bring them into the kingdom of God as royal priest of God and make them to reign as kings over the earth (Rev. 5:9-10). That was why throughout His ministry on earth, He identified Himself with people who were at the bottom of life, people who have had the worst life that could ever be imagined. He ascended, but He also descended first into the lower parts of the earth, He who descended is also the one who ascended far above all the heavens, that He might fill all things (Ephesians 4:8-10), the same He who descended also ascended that he may raise us up from our fallen state. He identified Himself with the Prostitutes (John 8:1-11) criminals or thieves (Matthew 27:38; Luke 23:32-33, 39-43), murderers (Acts 7:54-60; 8:1-3; 9:1; Matthews 27:15-26; Mark 15:7-15; Luke 23:18-25). He identified Himself with the publicans, tax collectors and the politicians (Luke 5:27-32). He identified with the sinners (Luke
Alvin L. Reid explains and covers multiple ideas, issues, subjects, and solutions pertaining to missional student ministry. Throughout reading the book it is evident that Reid is not only extremely passionate about the missional aspect of the student ministry, but also the reasoning behind this aspect. Reid’s chapters recognize the issues that many student ministries deal with and how the ministry can go from just an event to a mission ministry. Throughout this book review I will summarize the content and highlight the key components that Reid speaks about. In regards to what Reid explains about a missional student ministry I will speak of how it will affect
The Bible makes a difference in my life as a student, because it affects my worldview, and therefore affects the way I communicate to others. I have a Christian worldview in which I believe that the Bible is God’s word and absolute truth, and therefore I strive to obey what He says in scripture. As Hintze reminded us that God has His way of communicating to us through the Bible and in addition, he also commands that we follow His way of communicating to others. This is best described in Ephesians 4:29 (NIV) which states “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen”. As I communicate to my instructor(s) and fellow colleagues,
Whether or not we recognize it, each person has a worldview. In essence, each person has implicit assumptions as well as prejudices about the world, which in most occasions influence the manner in which we regard situations around us. Generally, a worldview is a kind of lenses that corrupts our view of the world around us. Singularly, our worldview is shaped by our level of education and cultural background, as well as upbringing among many other environmental factors. For most people, their worldview is nothing more than what they have observed in the environment. To these kinds of people, they wouldn’t be in a position to provide a rationale reason of their beliefs to others.
sacrificed his life for the man. He had a lot of faith in Jesus that
The study of God’s Word alone is sufficient. Certainly, a Christian can benefit from the teachings and writings of others, especially other believers. However, anything beyond scripture should not be considered to carry the same weight.
Paul feels that there is a great need for church mission; Church missions trips are a blessing on both sides of the wall. It’s a blessing for the people in the church that are doing the mission cause they have a chance to see the world, help, give back, and also have the opportunity to help other people out. Missions trips can help a person grow in their faith, get closer to God and even mature. The mission trip can open up eyes to the church and even the people on the mission trip. Some one told me that the mission trip is not always for the community who the mission is for but it’s for the one that is going on the mission trip. A mission trip is another way for God to community with you and other people. God can show you a lot on a mission
Ever since the missionaries have arrived everything has been so crazy, so many things have been changing mainly for the good. The missionaries have been so kind to us they have been trying to share their Christian religion with us, however there are some people who still strongly believe in the gods and some of those people are my dad, eldest sister, and my second youngest brother. We have been getting into quite a lot of arguments because they keep on telling me and the rest of my family that it is silly to believe in anything but the gods.
You may have been asked many times why the Bible is important. I have many reasons why the bible is important to me. Here is one of the reasons. First and foremost, the Bible is essential for knowing God and His will for our lives. The book of Romans tells us there are certain things we should know about God. Without Scripture people can know about God’s power and divine nature by examining creation (Romans 1:20). They also know God’s law because it is written on their hearts (Romans 2:14–15).
Follow-up is essential to fulfilling the command of Christ to make disciples of all nations. It is the bridge between evangelism and discipleship Waylon Moore once said, “There is no continuing New Testament evangelism without follow-up. They are God’s ‘two-edged sword’ for reaching men and making them effective disciples for Christ.” The sad reality is that, according to Alvin Reid, “churches have neglected follow-up. We have left a generation of baby Christians stranded, unsure of how to grow.” As Christians, our follow-up plan must be well -developed, one that’s biblically and theologically sound, and we must be actively engaged in follow-up.
“Every Christian is both a member of the universal church and also a participant in a particular culture. There is not one Christian interpretation of Jesus; there are many different ones, shaped by different cultures.”
Christian mission in my opinion starts with my final destination. Spending eternity with my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Without accepting Jesus into your heart, your missions will have no peace, hope and love. It all starts with creation. “The Bible begins and ends with creation. It opens with the words, “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth” (Gen. 1:1), and its final great vision opens with the words, “Then I saw ‘a new heaven and a new earth’ ” (Rev. 21:1).” (Wright 2010). He created our current place of existence and our destination before anything else and then he will create us a new heaven and earth when the present ones are gone. During God’s creation of the earth, He gave humans the rule over all living things. (Gen. 1:28).
