For each of the contextual factors listed below, provide a brief description of the key understandings Educators need to have.
Conflict can take on many forms in one’s life, such as conflict with self, with society, with religion and with others. Nathaniel Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter, develops the theme of conflict through the moral sin of Hester Prynne. Conflict is observed through Hester’s difficulties with the townspeople, challenges with the Puritan way of life, struggles with herself and tensions with Roger Chillingworth. Committing sin in the Puritan society leads to a great deal of conflicts.
Merriam-Webster’s dictionary definition of the word “educate” is to develop and cultivate mentally or morally; train; instruct; teach. I would like to be that individual who educates because educators, or teachers, encourage a child’s developing curiosity through active learning, values, problem solving, language development and positive self-image, which help to benefit the child’s success in life. A teacher is someone who is respected and looked up to by others. As an early childhood educator I can have the opportunity to assist in positively influencing a young child’s life and mind. I can contribute to the growth and development of the individual child as they mature and evolve into a young adult. My genuine interest in children motivates me to pursue not only a career in education but also a commitment to life long learning experience.
I received a bachelor's degree in English, magna cum laude, from Florida Southern College in 2012. My senior coursework included art reviews, rhetorical analysis, investigative nonfiction articles and a 45 minute seminar for which I received the highest scores in my class and I was asked to reprise my presentation during Florida Southern College's "Speaking of English" campus wide event.
As a teacher, I will work to fully provide opportunities for authentic learning, where every child feels valued, safe and included. My goal will be to find occasions every day to nurture independent learning, along with peer support that promotes a sense of personal growth and achievement. I recognize that every child has strengths and weaknesses, special talents, and specific needs, regardless of individual challenges. My objective will be to model appropriate behavior and show acceptance of everyone
The field of study that I chose to go into is Elementary Education. For the past two summers, I have participated in the AmeriCorps Energy Express program and I can honestly say the experiences I have with this program are very enlightening and valuable to my ideas and conceptions about being an educator. Through Energy Express, I came up with my own theory. Any mind seeks to always place its limits and boundaries around that which they do not fully understand. It seems that all concepts and ideas must be placed in this little box for all others to comprehend and follow. The same holds true for philosophies of education. There are countless numbers of ways that educators go about
Education is defined as the lifelong process of acquiring knowledge, skills, and values through either formal means, such as schooling, or informal means, such as firsthand experiences or vicarious experiences gained through reading books or discussions. Every person that is or wants to be a teacher has his or her own educational philosophy. We all have our own views, methods, and curriculum that we were taught when growing up. A lot of people may have the same teachers in school, but all of them learn different things from that teacher.
Education entails individual human development in the cognitive, emotional, creative and social areas. All children are entitled to a free education regardless of race, cultural background or handicaps. For education to be an effective part of the students life, the student and teacher must be actively and enthusiastically involved in learning. A teacher needs to be well prepared and organized. They need to know the perspective goals for each student and ways to achieve these goals. Teachers need to work with students to help them grow and develop ways to use their knowledge.
The use of marijuana in the United States used to be a rather taboo subject. The infamous slogans of “Just Say No” and “Reefer Madness” filled the ears of society and many listened. However, in recent years marijuana legalization has come to the forefront of politics, as more and more Americans are opening up to the idea of legalizing marijuana nation wide for medical and recreational purposes. With about half of adults in the United States in favor of legalizing marijuana it shows that this may be the first time in history where complete legalization of the drug could be a real possibility. It’s not just millennials at the forefront of this fight either. Support from Generation X, the Baby Boomers, and even the Silent Generation have been steadily climbing over the past decade (Nathan). Legalization of marijuana would not mean a free for all for those who use cannabis for either medicinal or recreational purposes. Supporters of legalization propose that marijuana should be regulated and taxed similarly to how alcohol is. There would be a set legal age for those who wish to purchase it, the marijuana would only be available at certain retail outlets, it would be taxed, and there would still be criminal charges placed on those who drive under the influence. Colorado, Washington, Oregon, Alaska, and the District of Columbia have already passed legislation to legalize marijuana and have seen positive effects from doing so. Washington and Colorado were the first two states to do
Often referred to as the Last Great Dynasty, The Qing Dynasty ruled China for over three centuries. The Qing were a proud dynasty and relied little upon foreign trade and influences to grow their economy. This was partly because The Qing were a self-sufficient society. Another reason for the denial of Western influences was due to The Qing’s great pride of their own culture. Any acceptance of Western influences would dilute the values and traditions of The Qing. That being said, The Qing did allow a trivial amount of foreign trade to take place in the Port of Canton. The refusal to allow Western influences, the lack of knowledge of the importance of foreign relations and the continued reliance of Confucian teachings all played a part in the demise of The Qing Dynasty. The modernization of China would not be possible without the rebellion of 1911.
Education is a key element that directs one's life to success. By having knowledge one holds the power to make goals a reality. Teachers are responsible to help goals, such as, learning to read become a reality. It is the responsibility of the teacher to give the students the best quality of education in order for the students to be able to have a positive experience as well success in life. I feel students should be given the opportunity to learn the facts, the truth, not just parts of it. I feel as an educator one needs to give the students the opportunity to
