Northern Ontario Businesses Struggle with Little Help from MPPs Over the last few months, the Northern Ontario Party has been approached by desperate business owners looking for any kind of assistance with their outrageous hydro bills. One such business owner is Roslyn Taylor who operates Taylor’s sawmill on Manitoulin Island. Roslyn, recently posted on Facebook her hydro bill for the month of July. It was nearly $4000.00 and this was a month where her main saw was down and her company’s production was low. So, you would expect the company’s power bill to be reasonable. But here is what the Taylor’s hydro bill looked like Taylor Sawmill's hydro bill... Actual usage $840.23 <<<< Regulatory charge $39.90 DELIVERY $ 2,809.77 !!! DEBT CHARGE …show more content…
Buck, Mike Mantha’s office assistant. Tommy states “I never heard a thing from Mike Mantha. We were shut down shortly thereafter. This was the catalyst as to why I'm politically active now and why I have since joined the Northern Ontario Party” Mr. Mantha, in fairness, did respond to Roslyn’s Facebook posts by stating the following Roslyn Taylor ... I certainly wish I could do more Roslyn but with ongoing privatization of our Hydro, we will continue to see rising costs until we get a change of priorities. I hear your frustration loud and clear!!! And in another post-Mr. Mantha stated but the change that many expect isn't going to happen until June 7, 2018, that's a fact. The Northern Ontario Party does not agree with this approach too commonly taken by politicians and local MPPs and their belief that they are not in power there is nothing they can do. This is not just an Algoma issue but an issue shared among all Northern ridings, this is why it has taken so long to deal with serious issues that have plagued the North, such as the crisis in Grassy Narrows, where their citizens had to endure mercury in their drinking water for far too long. The Northern Ontario Party believes MPPs, are elected to represent their constituents and for Northern Ontario businesses to survive we need to have active politicians, who are going to fight tooth and nail for them. The NOP Party Leader, Trevor Holliday states That The time for
The Liberals main party platform has many benefits but it also has many disadvantages. The Liberals have proposed to raise taxes for the Canadian upper class. But lower the taxes of the Canadian middle class. I predict that the majority of the Liberal party’s supporters consist of middle class and working class citizens, as it most benefits them. Although lowering the taxes of the middle class and working class was an amazing idea to gain more supporters, raising taxes of the upper class was not such a good idea. The Liberal party is losing votes (and possibly the support, financial and otherwise) of the upper class. If the liberals were to lower the taxes of the middle and working class but keep the upper class taxes the same, I feel that the liberals would gain a significant amount of supporters.
The idea of what the Canadian Health Care system should be varies between the country's three political parties. According to the official website of the New Democratic Party of Canada, the NDP believes that every Canadian citizen should have quality, reliable health care. In fact, the NDP initially created Canada's public health care system. In addition to the current health care system, the NDP is trying to create legislation that would grant free dental and drug coverage for seniors over the age of 65. Lastly, recent debate in both Canada and the United States has been on the subject of whether or not health care should be privatized. It is the belief of the NDP that the privatization of health care would have a negative effect in
We once lived in a world lush and plentiful where we enjoyed all the natural resources peacefully. However at the beginning of the industrial revolution more people moved to the cities therefore increasing their dependency load. Fastforward to today and the world has seen a drastic change in the loss of natural resources as well as a number of health related illnesses like asthma. This is mainly due to the effects from carbon pollution, greenhouse gases and global warming. Canada as a country is thought of as environmentally aware and progressive. Actually has many issues regarding this topic and if it is not taken care of it will affect the future of the nation. I care about this topic because it has to
While SMP has its faults, there is a reason that provinces have not voted in favour of electoral reform. One of
In Canadian government it best to have legislators who do not vote their own interests and they vote the interests of their constituents. If legislators vote in their own interests they could be going against their own parties or the constituents that voted them in. Even if they know a lot about the subject they should still keep their interests out of their decisions and keep the interests of their constituents. Legislators that vote their own interests might even be going against the party policies, which could get them kicked out of the party or disciplined. Legislators are there to represent the people of their riding, not to vote their own interests in.
Remember when the liberals promised to the additional medical services that never happened? Did you know that there are still only 27 doctors/100,000 people in Nunavut? This is clearly not enough and since we know that, we will send more physician! You see?Justin Trudeau and the liberals don't get it or know how it feels because they aren't in the same case but we are different and we will make an actual change.
The Northern Ontario Party was busy this past weekend with hosting their first AGM at Kettle Lakes Provincial Park near Timmins Ontario. But when the dust settled the Northern Ontario Party had its first truly elected executive board in the Party’s history. The NOP is proud to announce that the members have overwhelmingly voted in favor of keeping the present board intact with a 96% approval rating. There was only one slight move in the executive board, that being long-term Party President Edward Deibel will now sit on the board in the role of Party Founder and Director. Ed will continue to have a say in the Party’s direction as well as maintain his role as mentor and will give guidance to current and future board members.
Docherty addresses criticism both internally and externally of the governing party. Internally Docherty suggests that while advances for nonpartisan selection of specific roles, such as the Speaker, have been successful in achieving some neutrality, party discipline and loyalty to the executive remain incredibly strong in Canada making internal dissention both politically and strategically unwise for members of a governing party. Externally of the government, parties and individual MP’s do not receive the same type of research support as well as funding as those which hold particular positions such as Ministers or meet standards set by the Board of Internal Economy. While oppositions can scrutinize in the form of Question Period (QP) or Private Members Bills (PMB) these measures have become more symbolic and theatrically politicized than they have been historically leading to more talk and much less action.
In 2007, Canada’s industries saved 2.1 billion U.S. dollars of energy costs (2007). All these numbers show Canada’s efforts in general public utilities.
On the question of whether the governing Conservative Party of Canada owes their political strategy to the historic Canadian custom of brokerage politics, prior scholarship and assessments of the tenets of the brokerage party system do indicate that the Conservative Party has not been ignorant of this strategy, as it proved absolutely central to their gradual ascendance to the perch of “Establishment Party” (Kennedy 2013), culminating in the 2011 election. Brian Mulroney’s failed attempts at constitutionally entrenching the “nation-building” character of brokerage politics (Carty & Cross 2010, 193) resulted in the rise in significance of regional interests from Western Canada and Québec, both opposed to Mulroney’s constitutional workings,
The lack of flexibility within government, however, as Armstrong articulates that “opposition now comes not only from the big provinces but also from forces such as doctors’ organizations […] those seeking for profit” (Armstrong, p153). Governments’ are influenced from behind the scenes in the form of private investment and wealthy investors such as lobbyists. I do believe that if the government becomes more flexible, it would under these conditions - eliminate public funding across the board and implement a free market due to the persuasion of partisan funding. With the electoral system Canadians have in place, bipartisan voting and four or five-year electoral schedule, it differs political parties from imposing such changes, as they are confined to public opinions (Malcolmson, p227). In comparison, Armstrong defines our ‘rigidity’ as praise for resistance of private corporations and lobbyists, avoiding “pressuring individual legislators” (Armstrong, p21). The for-profit industry is heavily funded, therefore, can offer significantly more public persuasion. Furthermore, as discussed by our guest lecturer, we are geographically linked to the largest for-profit regime on the globe – our television is directly influenced by American advertisements, enticing our population to believing that we are restrained in choice of care by our government.
Numerous energy and water efficiency measures have been completed or committed saving approximately $870,000/year at 2011/12

Voters are not the only people who benefit from the practice of party discipline. The practice is also fundamentally important for the stability of the Canadian government. Being a pluralist country means there are groups (political parties) of differing ideologies that represent
Fortunately, last time National’s dissatisfaction disappeared in a long run since they are not competing for the same market. National doesn’t take any leap in past 5 years in doing business in northern Alberta though it was informed about the huge potential of increasing market share. It seems National is not interested in increasing his presence in northern Alberta.
