In order to enhance my community’s quality of life, I have organized and participated in multiple service projects. Last year, I organized an event where a small group of friends and I made Christmas goodie bags for children in the area. This year, I am organizing a leadership project to donate school supplies for students in need within my school district. I will host several fundraising events in order to have enough money to purchase school supplies. I know what it’s like to not have enough school supplies to be prepared, so I want to ensure that no student has to experience that. Aside from these personal planned events, I have volunteered at multiple park clean-ups, homeless feeds, food-drives, donation events, and local festivals. I have
I am a volunteer for Camp Kesem, a program that provides support and puts on a summer camp for children and teens whose parents have been affected by cancer. The past year I have volunteered with the organization at "bar-canning" and "tailgate-canning" events, where I have fundraised for and informed people about Camp Kesem. I also organized a flag-football team for one of our largest campus fundraisers, "Football for the Fight." Lastly, I was accepted as a volunteer counselor for this year's summer camp, where I will be a cabin leader for 11-12 year-old
This past summer I participated in Camp Holy Cross where I donated my time ad counseled kids from eight to three each day. I worked in the field thus I had to set up games, instruct them and take care of the kids while they were there. Another event I participated in with my church was the soup kitchen. This is where members of the Church’s youth group get together and put on a dinner. I also participated in the crop walk. This is where we collect donations to fight hunger and then walk six miles around Dalton. Therefore my community service shows how I give back, and another reason why I should be
First off Congrats on the promotion to a very distinguished rank, part of the elite officers of the Armed Forces. I know it is well deserved. I appreciate the opportunity I was bestowed to meet you and also having my spouse be a part of your leadership team. I wish the best for you and your family as you pursue the next leg of your military
One particular activity that I feel has made a difference in the community is my participation in Mini-THON, a student-led philanthropic organization that raises money for research in pediatric cancer and benefits Four Diamonds and Penn State Hershey Children’s Hospital. I have served as the Junior and Senior Co-Chair, or President, for the past two years, respectively. Each year, my responsibilities have expanded from simply attending meetings and contributing ideas for fundraisers, to actively coordinating meetings and organizing fundraisers with local businesses. For example, our club held our first annual “Teenie-THON” for elementary school students. We spent countless hours creating advertisements and permission slips for the participants.
Over the course of my academic career, I have volunteered with Key Club at my school and other various places, such as the Poe Center for Health Education and WakeMed Health and Hospitals. Involvement with each organization has had a tremendous impact on my character. Often, while at the Poe Center, I had hours alone to create educational tools, file papers, and enter data into spreadsheets which taught me responsibility and integrity. I always strived for the best when I completed tasks at the Poe Center and at WakeMed. Each organization has been impacted through my volunteer services. With Key Club, we had monthly trips to the senior home. Each time I visited the senior home, the elder’s faces would light up because many of them did not have
The National Honors Society allows students to be build and create traits that are essential in a successful adult. I truly believe that hold many of these traits and joining the National Honor Society will grant me the opportunity to expand on these traits and grow as a person. Thus far I have focus greatly on the scholarship aspect of NHS and have been dedicated to my academics. I have held my GPA above 4.0 and have always been devoted to maintaining that high level of academic success. The skills I have shown in devoting myself to my academics can be easily translated into my dedication for the other aspects of leadership, service and character. Having previously held a officer role in the National Junior Honor Society I have gained experience
My father is going to retire in some years and my mother is a house wife. They both have invested in their house heavily therefore these reasons might affect my family’s ability to fund my college tuition.
In regards to the Education for Youth and Services program, I have volunteered to help feed the homeless; and with the Office of Diversity Affairs I have volunteered to participate in events to promote the business school towards underrepresented high school students like myself. Additionally, I have been communicating with my high school counselor to develop an alumni-student mentorship program. Within this program alumni from my high school that are current college students will be able to mentor a high school upperclassmen on the early stages of life after secondary school. Likewise, I have taken the initiative to run a food drive by using resources from my tuition in order to take part of providing resources for a homeless shelter. I am passionate about my volunteer work and programs for the fact that I want to improve my communities, and although I’m not a non-profit organization, I know I can cause a change with the littlest
As a student, I have demonstrated many works of service to my community and school. Service opportunities have shaped me into the person I am today and these projects have made me realize how fortunate I am for all that I have. While I've been doing these service projects through the years, it has been a pleasure seeing the joy on the faces of people that aren't as fortunate as I am. Service projects that I have completed include managing the fish booth at the St. Leo's Parish Festival, being an altar server at St. Leo's Parish, helping cook dinner for the Ridgway Fire Department during carnival day setup, participating in the St. Marys Light Up Night by dancing, and Christmas caroling to local residents. I also participated in a zombie/princess
Ever since I was a young kid I have always been interested in movies. My grandma, who was full of the wise the life experience left, always knew about my interest in movies. She feed my vain for the art. Even though her religion, she professed Adventist of seven-day religion, didn't let her go to the cinema, she always found the way to took me to the cinema. She and I enjoyed watch movies. We used to sit in the darkness room, with our faces illuminated from the reflection of the light which rebooted from the screen, both absorbs in the plot of the movie which made us laughed or cried. After the movie, while we went back to her home, she started to talk about the movie. She had a particular point of view where the main story
This idea was a collaboration of people coming together to develop an idea to focus on the literacy skills with a concentration on dually served students. This idea was designed using data collection and research based strategies that focused on increasing students’ literacy skills. When designing this program we reviewed a lot of information, but there is limited research pertaining to dually served students. There is a good deal of literature stretching back to the early 1990s supporting the need to provide students who are both English learners, and who have a learning disability with instruction in both support areas (Hudson & Fradd, 1990; Frantz & Wexler, 1994; Gersten, Baker, & Marks, 1998; Obiakor & Utley, 1996; Artiles & Ortiz, 2002).
I participated in my schools Beautification Project by cleaning up the school grounds and surrounding area. I pulled weeds, planted flowers, laid mulch, picked up trash and painted. This was important to me because it allowed me to give back to the area I both live and attend school. I have baked and distributed cookies to families at the Ronald Me Donald House. I have also prepared snack packs for families at the Ronald Me Donald House- prepared bags with pudding cups cheese crackers, chips, granola bars and muffins. These were provided to families so that they could have access to a snack while at the hospital with their child. I have sort/packed food at the Mid-Ohio Food Bank, volunteered as a community meal server and donate blood regularly. I also assisted with coordinating the blood drive at my
In regards to my one-time scholarship, I understand the support to IRSC. However, this semester, I had to take one class due to financial hardship and not receiving Financial Aid. The funds you have given are available at the Bookstore. For this semester, I needed a textbook and a software (McGraw Hill Connect - Access Code). In the beginning, I was not aware of the software, so I went ahead and rent the book. Then later found out the software is the main tool needed. When I went to make a purchase, it was expensive and so I came to Foundation office to apply for assistance for books. However, the bookstore does not sell it separate and I had to go elsewhere to make the purchase from Amazon at a discount rate. Therefore,
Service is a word used constantly. The word service has an impression on many people. For example; people who work as lifeguards view their work as a service to the community. Naturally, based on working as a lifeguard their definition of service would be an action beneficial to the well-being of others. Not surprisingly, a similar definition was found in the Oxford English Dictionary (OED). Service is described in the Oxford English Dictionary as "the action of serving, helping, or benefiting; conduct tending to the welfare or advantage of another; condition or employment of a public servant; friendly or professional assistance." Furthermore, in Webster's Ninth New Collegiate Dictionary, service is
