As of recently, the music scene has become a less than ideal community to be a part of. The community that I have grown to know and love is everyone respecting everyone. It was a place where people could find new music, talk about music, write music, share music, etc. Now, though, after observing some things from afar without getting engaged, I have been noticing a lot of things that are absolutely not what music is or should be about. For the longest time, I have been noticing some behaviors that should absolutely not be a part of something that is supposed to be almost a safe space for many. One of the more noticeable examples of these behaviors are people who act all high and mighty about what music they listen to and what they like as …show more content…
If a 12 year old is asking for suggestions for new music, similar to the stuff that they like, we should be providing them with answers, not berating their music taste and telling them to go listen to real music. Or if someone discovers a new musician through one of their popular songs, and goes to look for more, others should be welcoming to them, directing them to where they can find more music, not telling them that they aren’t a real fan because they weren’t there from the beginning of this musician's career to celebrate their music. Since when has music been a competition to see who liked what first or who has a better taste? Music is supposed to be about creativity and expression and if we’re not letting these people listen to what they want and respecting what they listen to, then what’s the point? The whole point of having this great big community is to help others discover new things and try certain stuff …show more content…
There is a reason that we don’t see many Nickelback fans discussing their music and shows. That’s because the media and the internet has bullied Nickelback and their fans basically off the face of the earth. It has gotten so bad that now the US Army has banned the playing of Nickelback and “other terrible rock groups” that also included Korn, Smashmouth, Slipknot, and Creed, just for shits and giggles. Roughly three months ago, a Canadian police force threatened to subject drunk drivers to the band’s music as punishment and one month later, Facebook released a promotional video that states that there “...are no good Nickelback songs.”. Is that how we are supposed to treat things that we don’t like? People tend to forget that these bands are, believe it or not, people. They are people who have feelings and access to the internet where they can and do see these things being said about them. This is not what being a music fan is about. Shitting on others because they like something that you
Since the being of time people have been making and listening to music. Music has been considered the best way to express ourselves. The Bible even talks about how music was used to praise God. Music has been used for all type of things ranging from to getting a girl to notice guy, trying to get over a broken heart, or maybe losing a love one. Now society says that music has become too violent and sexually oriented. Many people have different point of view on this topic some people feel that there should be some type of censorship, while other feel censorship is against the first amendment, and others feel that parents should be responsible for what their children listen to. The question that comes to mind is should
Racism, hate, sex, drugs, and profanity are among many things people encounter in everyday life whether they want to or not. The one thing that people do have control over is what kind of music they listen to and to take that right away from anyone would be more offensive than having the president of the United States of America get oral sex in the oval office, one of the most honored places in the country. People get more worked up over the things in life that mean nothing, than worrying about crucial issues. Our society can tolerate watching parents smack their children in *Wal-Mart more than they can stand to hear a curse word, or a sexual comment in a song. Music is an
Some music also teaches young ones that it’s ok to be different. There are such songs today that teach us to accept being gay and people that are gay. Music tells us to accept people the way they are. We are growing up in a world that people hate against gays and gays had to hide what that where. Now these day gays can be free. There are songs that say it is ok to be gay. The song “same love” by Macklemore says
I'll participate in this (hopefully objective and unpolitical views of some gentlemen here) I got words for you today zinesters. Adding some words from Em Lozano 's post, Music's standards need not be set by people who use their inks and allowing their personal views in fabricating bandwagonism and or elitism and such. Musicians set the standards and or feed the listening arena with their own brand or style without affirmation from someone else's preference and music standpoint. Music is not written by critics nor written by fans. If you don't like someone else's work, don't listen to it or just trash it out. Need not bash em out because it wasn't recorded at your favorite studio or you're not friends with the band. Cut the "bandwagon" ,
Many people tried to solve the problem through censorship, but did it work? The answer is no, there is no complete solution to handle this problem because of the First Amendment’s Freedom of Speech, making it impossible to restrict the message and expression hip hop conveys. The duality of morals is applied in the hip hop controversy. It’s not moral to promote violence, deal drugs, and degrade women, however, its not moral to take away an individual’s right to express themselves through music. Furthermore, the issues that hip hop presents, like violence and sex, can be seen in movies, video games, books, and television. There is a difference between seeing an officer getting killed in a movie and hearing it on a CD, or hearing about sex in a rap song, but witness the act in a movie theater. Issues can arise from all these situations, yet the First Amendment protects the parties involved. However, there is a solution to protect a young person from the negative
Encyclopedia Britannica defines music as, “art concerned with combining vocal or instrumental sounds for beauty of form or emotional expression, usually according to cultural standards of rhythm, melody, and, in most Western music, harmony”. Music was considered beautiful at one time. Musical artist in this day and age put their drive to succeed well before their personal morals. The explicit language warnings on music covers are not enough. The foul language used in music is not the only thing that is influencing the younger generation. Pop, country, R&B, and rap music is having a big impact on influencing the American youth. Most of these music lyrics are just flat out detrimental to all involved.
However, what they do not see is that Rock and Roll is stopping the hatred and cruelty within its community by breeding an understanding and acceptance that all people are different, emotional, and have issues. These people will argue that teenagers and young adults only listen to this music to escape reality and society. Rock and Roll is actually what the true reality of humanity. Society asks people to push down their emotions, hide their crazy, and conform. Rock and Roll asks people to embrace that side of themselves and let it breath. The people that argue against Rock and Roll are truly afraid of their internal turmoil and can not understand how to embrace it.
In 2003, <management of the Six Flags Amusement Park in Darien Lakes, New York, banned Marilyn Manson from performing at the park as part of the Ozzfest tour. In 2003, radio stations across the country removed songs by the Dixie Chiks from airplay because of a comment from the group’s lead singer saying that she was “embarrassed the U.S. President George W. Bush was from her home state of Texas. ”The list of examples, as extensive as it is, only includes some of the major events in music censorship history. The reality of censorship is, as common or persistent as it may be, it really does not constrict the music that is heard. It is becoming increasingly easy to discover and download music online, where, faced against the infinite expanse of the Internet, censorship can be borderline humorously ineffective. There are not even any studies proving the exact effects of music on youth, or people in general for the matter. As Victor Lombardi put it, “An extensive study encompassing psychology, physiology, behavioral studies, sociology, and music would have to be do to prove a form of music is capable of causing harm. The researches would have to be trained not only in research methods but in all these fields and the music involved. A willing, impartial musicologist proficient in the music of
and teenagers need to realize that you can ask your friend to change the music. Overall, I think
Music is a beautiful piece of art work. It can send messages about politics, it can soothe a broken heart, or it can bring a family closer together. Music is such an important aspect in a household because it could very well be the only thing a family can connect on. The Father and Mother share their taste of music with their kin just as their parents did for them and along with their parents. The music being passed down receives a change along the way. My Father showed me Heavy Metal, Hair Metal, and Rock ‘n’ Roll, whereas my Mother showed me 80s pop, some country, and other various genres. Some of the music passed down from generation to generation may be derived from where our ancestors lived. I have recently found out, through my Mother
NIckelback has had an outstanding impact on not only the society in the United States, but all around the world. They were able to release their first album in 1996, when the music industry was a disaster. Generally,Numerous of people such as parents feel that music should be banned because it's affecting the way their children talk and dress.Karen
“Censorship, like charity should begin at home; but unlike charity, it should end there,” is a quote by Clare Boothe Luce (Fitzhenry, 84). Some parents are against the censorship of music. They believe that they should raise their kids, not some politicians who believe one nasty word will change a whole child’s future.
The majority of people want individual songs more than a full album by a musician or musicians. People aren’t as likely to follow a musician through thick and thin even if they do release a bad song or album. An example could be that someone may like a few songs by Beyonce, but not her albums so they won’t label themselves as a fan of her work. In the older days like when the Beatles were still huge, a fan would love every song and know them all by heart. Even if there were a few songs that they didn’t like as much as others, they would still love the Beatles just as much as
Let's take rap. Some kids who like rap talk like rappers, dress like rappers, eat like rappers, and treat women like rappers treat women. Is it because they're influenced by what they see on TV or hear on their favourite rap artist's album?” Glen Chiacchieri makes it clear that there are many aspects of culture that are dependent on Music, and that music has been, and that the way people lived there lives are affected by music and popular culture.
