This has been my most varied year at Paideia. I covered topics that I would’ve never expected. In fact rather than being handed project ideas I came up with a lot of my own. I worked From humanism to cosmetic surgery, I’ve really explored the educational field.
This has been my best year in math. We started the year covering exponents, which thoroughly enjoyed working with. The concept initially confused me but after some practice and explanation I soaked it up. Another big part of math this year was pre-algebra. As with exponents, the concept was originally confusing but over some time I understood it. I completed a lot of problems where I solved an equation algebraically. I mainly completed these problems in two different ways using elimination and substitution. After trying both ways I decided my favorite was substitution. Even though elimination is quicker I believe substitution is more versatile. In Beacon I predict there to be complex variations on math I’ve already learned or brand new fields of math. Whatever they throw at me, I look forward to practicing and applying the concept to real life.
I really enjoyed all different elements of language we learned this year, especially the short story portion. Tim would give all the students a prompt to write a short story on, usually based on the one we read in class. The following day everyone would present their stories, we would talk about the language, analyze the meaning, discuss our views on the prompt. It was very
Overall i enjoyed last semester even though it wasn’t the best for me,it was a good experience. So.So now when i look back i know what not to do so my grade won’t ever be as low or get to the point to where it was in first semester. It’s always good to go through things like this so it won’t happen again.I have been acknowledged to know now to get all my participation points, notes and get all the reading we tend to have done, this semester. You live and you learn and i learned a lot last semester which made it even more enjoyable the whole
That was my favorite too! One day we had a class project to do and I was hoping that our teacher Ms. Wyatt choose Briana to be in my group. As Ms. Wyatt began calling each person’s name, I heard her say; “Briana, Jena, Kim, Calvin and Alexis”. I couldn’t believe my ears, Briana and I would be in the same group together. “Yippee”!! Our assignment was to take the five “W’s”, who, what, when, why and where and each person had to demonstrate what each word meant in a sentence. I had “Who” and Briana had “What”. We each came up with some powerful sentences and our group rocked
I really like getting into the nitty-gritty of solving problems. I was happy to see that several students actually provided solutions to the problems that were identified using Heap’s law. I wish I had the time this week to have looked into it myself. I’m hoping that we might be doing some of that next week though.
To sum up, I really happy that I took this ACA class this semester, I have changed my major and that help to save a lot of time and money. I made some new good friends thank to the presentation project. I have learned some new experiences which I have to pay a high price. And I want to say thank you to Mrs. Barnes, who taught us with all of her
I had a great opportunity learning with a dynamic group from last semester and look forward to continuing to learn from everyone this semester.
The first English course I came to know and love was my senior year mythology course. An overall amazing course. Free spirited, problem posed, and educational. Gender specific normalities
This year was a very challenging one, but fortunately I was always encouraged to do my best. The English class was not the only place where I had to use my writing and reading skills. Thus, I had to combine such skills with research and creativity. In my Ap physics class, I was able to challenge myself by writing a
It provided me an opportunity to introduce myself and identify my communications strength and weakness so that I could focus on improving my abilities throughout the semester. The Speaker Analysis was another fun assignment. I met my World Regions Professor, John Boyer, in person for the first time. This assignment allowed me to use all techniques that I learned from taking critical notes, listening, and analyzing speaker’s content, to observing the speaker’s presentation style, logics, and movement. The Common Book Essay was my most inspiring assignment. I read Eric Greitens book, The Heart and the Fist, multiple times because it was important for me to visualize his service and compassion not only his countrymen, but less privileges people all over the world. Subsequently, I felt proud and blessed of sitting along with my classmates and professor at the War Memorial Chapel to observe the pylons and discussed with one another what our ideals are and which pylon we most identify with. It offered me an opportunity to look back at my life and how fortunate I am to be a part of the VT Ut
I am glad to have finally met so many wonderful people throughout the semester, people who face challenges the same way as I. Challenges are a big part of our lives, its mostly what defines our future, of how awesome we want it to be, or just as how will be without determination or effort. Throughout
My daughter has mentioned that they have learned about other countries, cultures, world problems and much more. It brings a smile to my face to hear my daughter talk about conversations she has over topics like the cyclist race that occurred earlier this year or about articles she’s read about different festivals in South America. Some of the things my daughter highlight about her year so far from the class are that they have had a dance class to learn about Hispanic culture, they have done a tiny bit of poetry for valentine’s day, songs and books in Spanish, guest speakers and lots of fun projects that all fall under the curriculum. She brings something that most teachers forget and that is interaction with the students. By connecting with her students she not only brings out what Godwin strives for a positive atmosphere but she also shows the students that she is there for them. She gives them support and confidence in what they do and that is something valuable that they will carry on forever! Although these students have much to learn, especially for the AP exam coming up, I believe with further guidance from Mrs. Andueza they will all receive exceptional
I learned more about the level of learners that I have in my class. My mentor teacher told me some names of high and low level learners, but observing them being taught and teaching them are two very different realities. I also learned that even my high level learners were struggling second grade counting skills (ex: ten more, ten less). This lesson also re-emphasized the importance of modeling learning for students (I do, we do, they do).
I think that I have come a long way from the beginning of the semester. Going back and reading my first paper I see many mistakes I could have solved if I just used the right formula.
During this week three things I learned were that I learned how to set up the Blackboard Collaborate Discussion, I learned more about certain myths, and I got to learn in depth what this whole class was going to be about. Even though I took a long while to figure out and download the BB Collaborate Discussion, I managed to get it done and know how to use it. During our class discussion I also got to learn about different myths I didn't know about like the Pandora's Box and The Willow O' the Wisp. These were two very different myths that I got to learn about and found pretty interesting. Also I was able to hear the recording of the BBC discussion and be able to learn more about Mythology and the five common traits.
The academic year has been very intensive and ran quicker than I imagined, however, it has been a very challenging but exciting both academically and on practice. Lectures have been well organised and delivered compared to year one where on many occasions there were disruptions due to last minute change of lecture theatres or change of timetable. We had equal sessions of field learning and theory at the school.
Enlightening. One of my favorite night was the first day of class when we answered questions about our own faith journeys. I got to know a little more about my classmates listening to them tell about their lives. Their stories gave me appreciation for what struggles they have encountered and also similarities that we shared. Connecting our journey as a Christian and how we may have been taught faulty or even toxic theology and how that can be correlated to psychopathology was very enlightening.
