The process of creating this ePortfolio has taught me that it's a long process and that you should try your hardest to make sure that your portfolio is your best work. I will be graduating soon and this portfolio shows my journey through high school and how far I've come since the beginning of freshman year. During the past eight weeks, this class has given me a life-changing experience. This class has allowed me to take everything I have learned in the last 13 classes and tie it all together into one piece, called the capstone. The capstone was a challenge that I had to overcome as a student and as an individual. There were days when I was stressed out and others where I felt confident. The constant roller coaster of emotions made this final project unforgettable. In fact, there were countless hours of research and revising paragraph after paragraph, until it was as close to perfect as I could get it. This capstone project has helped me work on my weaknesses and turn them into strengths.

High Schools throughout the country have different graduation requirements for their seniors. At Preston High School, a senior portfolio is a requirement to graduate. For the portfolio, students must collect all of their accomplishments and report cards to place into a binder. The binder will then be presented to employees of businesses. Another example of a graduation requirement would be community service. For example, Maryland schools require 75 hours of student service. Based upon research, some experts say that community service should be voluntary; however, it gets students involved in the community, allows for better schooling, and gives students a better work experience.
Throughout my entire University of Minnesota Rochester career, I knew the time would come for me to prepare my capstone and deliver it to a room full of people. It only began to set in when we I was sitting in my section of capstone proposal writing class last spring that this was actually happening. Now that I am sitting here writing the essay to my final report, I am overwhelmed that I am just days and weeks away from graduating. This is a bittersweet end to such an incredible time throughout my experience here and specifically during the preparation of my capstone. Through these experiences, I have learned to traverse the uncomfortable and come out the other side a better student and a more prepared applicant for the future of forensics

Portfolios are more than just a folder of student work. Portfolios are samples of student work assembled to “a particular purpose” (Arter, 1990). My capstone project has been a fast pace moving journey. This has been an intensive and active learning project that has consumed my daily thoughts. I am hoping that I have presented my written capstone project in a thorough, organized, concise, logical and clear matter. Chapters1-3 and revision of the matrix for chapter 3 are completed and are scheduled to be re-submitted this week. Every time I revisit the project I feel compel to add more and more information. I am thankful to have another semester to work on chapters 4-5. This project does require 3 semesters to complete, but when I took the first class the capstone was called a research project and not a capstone project, therefore I had to start all over again. Over the course of the last four months, I have developed numerous writing skills each week from our classes daily Khan Academy lessons, and I have learned new, strong verbs to incorporate into my english papers. I have also recognized who I am as a writer and what my securities are as an author. My experience thus far in Mrs. Lahiti’s language arts course has been very successful for I have grown as an author. In this reflective essay I will explain my strengths and weaknesses as an english writer, and give textual backup to prove how I have grown.

Portfolio Reflection Piece APN 730 Shara Vickers The piece I have chosen to include for my portfolio is the case study I created as part of the key assessment for this class. This piece best reflects my work in this course because it represents a significant body of research and writing. The assignment was comprehensive and drew on different skill sets, and I feel that it represents many of the learning objectives of this course. This piece demonstrates my understanding of the role of nutrition therapy in patient care and reflects my learning and application of the nutrition care process.
When I started this course I absolutely struggled with writing in particular. Since the writing of the self-improvement plan I found that I have not only educated myself in proper writing techniques but the overall communication aspect not just writing. My main concern or focus rather was being able to write a great paper and I believe that I have done so with the many assignment that required to write a paper in length. The essay writing from it conception beginning with the outline to its completion of not the essay itself but this final assignment portfolio helped me the most to construct proper papers. The theme of my portfolio is “The Little Writer That Could.” This, of course, is a parody of “The Little Engine That Could.” I chose this theme because of my history as a writer. Up until this year, I have never been confident in myself as a writer. I have always had to constantly tell myself that I would be okay and that I would get better as time went on. I remained at an adequate writing level until recently. I feel so much more confident in myself as a writer now. The theme of that book was that the little engine overcame his problem and fear of not being able to make it over the hill. In this class, we have one multiple career cruising worksheets and have explored many different jobs. These sheets are included in my portfolio because this shows my potential jobs that I want to pursue in the future. Also, this shows that I have goals for the future.
