“Faith in your own powers and confidence in your individual methods are essential to success,” wrote Roderick Stevens. These specific words have and will continue to motivate me throughout my first year in college. Upon arrival of freshmen year, I was very excited but also nervous about the unknown. My excitement came from the feeling of being in a new school with unfamiliar faces. To some people, that may be the total opposite, but considering how bad my last four years of high school went, it is refreshing to have a new beginning. Although college and high school are completely different, I was fairly prepared for the amount of hard work I was going to endure. I knew that my choice of major was going to come with many challenges. My career plan was to become a registered nurse and work my way up from there. During my time as an RN, I want to contribute a few years of my life as an Emergency Medical Technician. Having the same dream since I was seven years old has helped motivate me through challenging times. As some people have one person they look up to, I have a variety. Every doctor, surgeon, nurse, and paramedic whether it’d be on television or in real time. Although that is a few years away, I will be able to apply the strategies I have learned with reading, writing and, vocabulary to the remainder of my college experience. Examples such as using appositives, writer’s brush strokes, absolutes and, active verbs. As I consider my current academic journey through the

I am afraid of being rejected and getting
Before English I had only taken a nursing college class and it didn’t really feel like a college class because I was doing something I really liked. In the English class it was like a real college course and I had to actually sit there and listen to a professor, it was so boring at times; but writing the papers was fun. I had learned to write fast and efficiently. I didn’t know what deadlines were and how serious they were until this class. If you missed one assignment another would be quickly following, and soon you would have five papers to write and they would all be due the next day. I learned this the hard way when I missed doing an assignment and had to stay up all night writing papers. It was hard to adapt to college life but I got the hang of things after a while. I feel very much prepared for college thanks to this course. I learned to manage my time wisely, having to juggle college courses as well as my high school classes. At first I didn’t know if I really wanted to continue my education at a college, I didn’t think I was ready to transition into that life. I still have to improve on things needed to be successful in college, but I believe I have learned enough to make it through the next level. Now I feel well prepped and ready for whatever life throws at
Every high school student becomes anxious when waiting for that day to graduate but as graduation gets closer we become more worried on what we will do next and how we will pursue our career out there in the real world. Senior year is about applying to any colleges or universities that will judge you based on how you did throughout your high school years. In addition, the career i'm going to pursue when I graduate and leave high school is in the criminology and criminal justice studies. With a bachelor in criminology and criminal justice I have a variety of jobs I can pick out of. My first choice is to become a customs and border protection officer because I want to protect what enters the U.S. and to keep terrorist from entering. My second
The college career survey is a tool used to unlock a student’s potential for possible career and college majors based on their interest and abilities. My survey revealed a career in fields such as law, medicine, and media. Suggested careers in these fields were, Administrative Law Judge, Audiologist, and Newscaster, respectively. While, I am currently going to school with the goal of becoming a Medical Doctor, I can see how certain qualities in each career field/suggested careers would play a part in my current goal.
Throughout the journey of my highschool career I developed a passion for both sports of soccer, and track and I overall developed who I am as a person and what job characteristics would interest me for my pursuing future. I realized that I want my job to consist of helping others, and being active within the community which led me to the topic of criminal justice. After observing the University of North Carolina Wilmington's web page I reflected on why it would be such a good school for me to pursue. Im very interested in attending UNC Wilmington because it provides the courses i'm very interested in studying which are psychology and sociology and criminology. Another contributing factor that leads my interests into UNC Wilmington are the athletics
During my High school career I was involved with multiple extracurriculars. I played volleyball for 3 years, my Freshman, Sophmore and Junior year. I am a nane to 3 kids this past fall and summer. I play travel soccer this fall aswell. I am envoled in Key club and Arbor club.
Through out my high school career I never took my education seriously. For most of the four years it was a big blur. I’m not quite sure if it was because of me or if I found myself blaming my surroundings or teachers for my lack of focus and strive to learn. A failure can mean different things to everyone else. Maybe there’s just different types or categories of failures. These failures are meant to teach us something, or motivate us to simply not make these mistakes again.
This was a very interesting article to read, and I found myself agreeing with just about every point. I definitely know that I have never really been an amazing writer so when some unfamiliar genre comes up I just default to what I know. The point about most students only really writing the same 5 paragraph essay throughout their K-12 school careers is very true. The only time where it was not that style that I can remember is the last couple years of high school. In my 12th grade English course it was almost all rhetorical writing even though the teacher never really framed it as something different. There was also different forms in the science classes that I took where one year I even had to write a scientific report and journal. While
Like any other education, college is important and allows us to explore and gain more experience about particular subjects. From starting a path to a successful career, to shaping a path for the future, college provides practice in social skills, academic skills, and provides career opportunities. To be a research and development scientist, a possible topic to major in is bioengineering or biology. Many colleges that provide good classes for biology and bioengineering are University of California - Berkeley (UC Berkeley), California Polytechnic State University - San Luis Obispo (Cal Poly SLO), Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Central Oregon Community College, and California Institute of Technology (CalTech).
After thirteen years of planning and learning about what college has to offer, the decision finally has to be made about what I want to do with future academic career and life after college. The number of colleges I have to choose from is endless. However; the bigger decision is whether to attend a local branch of Ohio University or Zane State or attend a college out of town.
I have messed up numerous times throughout the course of my high school career. I had situations in which I was really lackluster of myself. Freshman year, I received a C in Biology because of a group a mishap, and I really took a plunge for it. The second semester of my sophomore year was perhaps the start of a trend that I had, in which I was not performing the best I should have been. Rather, I was intimidated by the courses, when I should have been much more prepared for them. Could I have done something about it? Of course I would, but, I did not, and since that moment, I really felt so lackluster. I really tried to overcome, but the results were not much better, and my grade and GPA suffered greatly for it.
College graduates with a bachelor's degree earn an average income of 66 percent more than those with only a high school education. College is an important feat that guides one to a successful career path. A college education is not something that is accomplished easily, however through dedication and hard work it can be achieved. A college education is something that I have always set my sights on and I will work tirelessly to succeed through college and throughout my life. A college education is important to me because it will help me become vastly more intelligent, and will guide me to a successful career.
I have always been active, both in and out of the classroom. Throughout my years as a high school student, I've been involved with many activities such as baseball, various clubs and school programs, internships, and volunteer experiences. I have taken comfort in these avocations, looking to pursue them in the future as well.
College has become the leading source of one’s development towards greatness. Those who can achieve a successful lifestyle, can often be correlated with being great. Becoming great is an opportunity open to all, but only a few have been capable of attaining greatness. Although we often complicated ourselves with the frequent hardships and difficulties presented to us, when simplified our lives consist of two simple elements, a goal, and its plan. What separates us, one from another, is our unique ability of persistence and dedication towards a goal, some have more than others. My plan for greatness consists of many longs years dedicated to studying and researching in hopes of becoming a medical doctor.
Upon obtaining a MSW, my career plans are to become a LCSW so that I can counsel individuals whether it is with children or adults. The practice setting that I see myself working with after graduation would be the school system. As a social worker I will be exposed to many different population groups but the two that interest me the most that I would like to work with are children and the health/mental health population. Early detection of mental health and behavior issues in children and adolescents critical. Working in the school system I would be provided the opportunity to combine my interest of working with children and serving the needs of the mental health population. Children are very vulnerable and without the proper guidance and support they can easily make bad decisions creating a cycle that leads to even worse decisions.
