The idea of returning to school to master new skills to compete in the workplace is an excellent goal for any working adult. However, it is important for the working adult to understand success is base upon the journey taken and the path chosen by someone. One must realize there will be many barriers and difficulties along the way; however, with dedication, ability to prioritize, and motivation to stay focus, I will succeed and graduate with my Master degree in Nursing in October 2017. For me to be successful in achieving this goal, there are different pathways that I must chose and followed. These are assessing my learning styles, finding ways to manage my time, money, and stress, and setting S.M.A.R.T goals.
Being motivated is a good start, but personal motivation alone is no guarantee of achieving an educational objective. The first step that I need to take as I move into my career path journey is assessing my learning styles. After been out of school for sixteen years, it is clear that the world I learned from is different than today’s method of teaching; therefore, it is important for me to assess my learning style to find out what works for me. After I had completed the Multiple Pathways assessment test, I discovered my learning styles were interpersonal and intrapersonal. As I was reading the definition of these two styles, I was not surprised that I fall into this category. My interpersonal learning style defines my character. It helps me understand my ability to
My primary career goal is to study and work with artificial intelligence. Medical procedures, food distribution, and medical diagnoses could all be improved by incorporating it. Artificial intelligence is going to shape the future in groundbreaking ways, and I wish to become a part of it.
As I start my first semester as an official registered nurse on the road to earning my bachelor degree. I can’t help but think of the challenges I will have to overcome along the way. Many RN’s may have fears of returning back to school after a long break, that is not the case for me. I earned my associate’s degree in May 2016. So returning back to school is as if I didn’t leave. Except this time it will be more time consuming and I will have to learn how to balance each role I play a little more strategically.
Personal growth and development is important to ensure a successful and satisfying career. My education includes an Associate’s degree in nursing, but I am presently working on my BSN. I have been out of school for many years and love my nursing career. I decided to take an online class just to see if I could do it, and I now feel challenged to finish my BSN and possibly go forward to attain my MSN. I have always enjoyed the learning from continuing education at my place of employment and online to further my nursing expertise, but I have gained much
In my current role as a nurse educator I feel the desire to pursue my dream of obtaining a master’s degree, specializing in nursing education. It has been 27 years since I have sat in the student chair in a classroom; therefore, I anticipate a number of challenges and barriers to overcome. In this paper I will present and describe three challenges that I expect to be faced with over the next two years. I will also discuss the strategies I plan to use to address these challenges.
However, I can envision myself with my Master’s degree. I have a plan to always further my education to gain more knowledge and gain more responsibility or different kinds of responsibilities. Again, I will fill out the application and with receiving an acceptance letter I will know I did it. I will have to submit previous transcripts and plan financially for the school. I will also have emotional support but financially I will have saved for school and I should be on my own by then. My target completion date is December 2021. My other goal for five years is to gain lifelong learning by attending at least two nursing conferences. I not only want to go to learn but I want to go to for networking purposes, especially with my Master’s degree. I will stay connected with what is going on and will keep my ears open and eyes for posting for conferences each year. I plan to talk to my colleagues and attend meetings for a nursing organization I will be involved in that I mentioned in my paper previously. I have no target date of completion because it is not only a five year goal but a lifelong
It was a great challenge and sacrifice to return to school to acquire my Master Degree in Nursing with specialization in Nursing Informatics. During this MSN program, I coped between working full time, raising my son and daughter, taking care of my sick and aging parents but yet I managed to participate in discussions and submission of my assignments. The journey became though at some point that I had to take a three months break and decided not to return. Thanks to my educational adviser who was very encouraging and supportive, I resumed classes with the goal of achieving my MSN in Nursing Informatics. After the completion of my BSN, my plans were to further my studies to become a nurse practitioner. I did apply to a couple of nursing school in my area but the admission process was taking too long. While I was waiting, a friend informed me about American Sentinel University (ASU) MSN program which I decided to pursue because of their affordable tuition and outstanding nursing program.
To begin with, I will venture back in endeavoring to comprehend myself substantially more profoundly than I do now. I need to realize what to give, what I value, my priorities, and standards of integrity. I need to identify the directions that will align best with my values, visions, needs, and commitment to my education. Secondly, I need to let go of the thinking patterns and behaviors that I am adapted to. I have to change my tests techniques in light of the fact that they are not helping me succeed on the tests. I need look at the patterns that are repeating, and attempt to identify my participation in sustaining these patterns, and doing something concrete to shift that dynamic in my studying. I am doing more reading, NCLEX questions, and digging deeper for more examples of what I am learning in Nursing 204. Lastly, I need to establish a vision that is reflective and become a continuous improvement framework for my future in nursing. These steps will be beneficial and play a big impact in my
As I begin a graduate study in nursing I know that recognizing the program of study and uniting it both professional development and professional goals is vital. The aim of this project is to offer an account of my educational and specialized background and also to discover professional and personal goals connected to the course and the practicum.
Entering a nursing program is a life changing experience. As an entry-level nursing student, I expect to learn everything needed to prepare myself to be a professional nurse. Although, I know this nursing program will be difficult, my goal is to be able to grow in my nursing program and attain success throughout the entire program. Given that this nursing program is 7 semesters, anything can happen. Barriers will be inevitable due to things being unexpected in life and the only thing I truly fear is not being successful in this program. The barriers I expect to face will be the constant change and adaption that will take place not only personally, but academically throughout these 2 years of nursing school. However, throughout my life I have
The transition from the associate degree in nursing to bachelor’s degree in nursing started for me in 2015. I had delayed acquiring the BSN degree due to family commitments. Upon admission into the University of Arlington, Texas for the online RN-BSN program, the first course l registered for was called transition to professional nursing. This class open me up to the meaning of a career or a vocation in nursing. Masters (2014), stated philosophies set for the general meaning of nursing and nursing phenomena through reasoning and the logical presentation of ideas. (Masters, 2014, p. 49). This helped to give me direction on my values, beliefs, and justice, when caring for people in my profession. This helps me to be better able to focus on each
Having a plan for continued professional growth is very important in any field especially in nursing. Developing goals along with the plan is crucial to enhance my professional growth in my career. My first goal is to graduate with my bachelor degree from Frostburg State University by December, 2017 by following the progression plan approved by my school advisor. I also need to enhance my nursing political knowledge and evidence based nursing practice to be the best nurse I can be because the nursing profession is based on research and evidence-based practice. I also will need to use my time management skills to prevent getting overwhelmed. “Time management skills can be a valuable tool in stress reduction and may result in improvement in the
I think we have something in common, working challenges. Even though we are ready to brave our nursing education, working to have enough money for bills still a great challenges we are facing, but I believe that by holding onto our study one day at the time, we're going to make a huge difference in our
The Future of Nursing report of 2010 called for the increase in the number of bachelor-prepared nurses in the workforce to 80% by 2020 (American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2015). The goal is to encourage nurses to achieve higher education and seek lifelong learning. Lifelong learning, however, goes beyond advanced degrees, required CEU credits, annual inservices, and orientations. Lifelong learning goes above and beyond normal duty. From the first day of nursing school to graduation day to the first day of orientation to a promotion into leadership roles; the learning never stops. Learning is necessary to to meet the demands and needs of a changing technological world that relies on health professionals, like nurses, to provide up-to-date,
“New programs, courses, experiences and changing requirements for the development of new skills pave the way for different opportunities for students to prepare for initial and continuing practice in a rapidly changing society” (Cherry & Jacob, 2014, p. 36). As a nurse there are so many great opportunities. You can become a nurse by enrolling in different types of programs. Those available programs today include diploma, associates, or bachelor’s degree. The most popular form is to attain an associate’s degree. “AND programs were so successful that they became the new career pathway for nurses, and now the majority
My career path was rerouted after the birth to my son. I was managing a 24-hour Alarm Monitoring Call Center with two years of college education in Psychology. Due to an inconsistent work schedule and difficulty locating Psychology courses that worked around my schedule, I decided to change my career path to Business Management, since I already had nearly 8 years experience in supervision and management. My mentor introduced me and made me familiar with the Dictionary of Occupational (DOT) following high school. The DOT is comprised of all occupations and job titles, salary ranges, responsibilities, and industries (Berry, 2003). As I prepared for my new journey, I evaluated my decision, researched, planned, applied for new occupations that interest me, and prepared for my new career in Management.
