As this semester is coming to an end, I am reminiscing about how overwhelming this class was. However, I acknowledge that there are a lot of astonishing things I have learned from this course. As an Engineering student, I was craving to acquire more knowledge that would help me in the outside world. Some things went as I desired and others did not, but I recognize that I could have done a better job to make this lesson more significant. Firstly, this course has exceeded all my expectations. When I first started the semester, I honestly thought the course was going to be boring just like some of the classes I took in the past. But, to my surprise it was absolutely not. Of course, the class was exhausting, but I chose to remain positive. Therefore, I got to learn something very important which is how to work in a team. I worked with a diverse team of people coming from different parts of the world. A diverse team sometimes faces all sorts of drawbacks to accomplish a certain project and this is exactly what happened to my team. Every member had a valuable suggestion to add to what we were working on, but it took us some time to actually accept what each one of us had to say. Later on, we decided to put our differences aside and join forces so we can aim higher than what the professor expected from us. Therefore, I have learned that one brain is not as efficient as five brains joined to work together and be successful. My teammates proved me how wrong I was to think that I
There was such a variety of topics covered in this course and I wish that I had taken it in a classroom instead of online. With this online course, I feel like the material went a little too quickly. If I were in a classroom setting, I feel that
Prior to attending this class, I thought that it was going to be a very boring one with long frustrating lectures. I was surprised at how much I was enjoying this class because it had to do with an area I have interest, which is, working in the community. Some of the challenges I encountered in this class was conducting a needs assessment, identifying advocacy article, and the elevator pitch. I can say honestly say that I learned how to conduct an actual needs assessment, although when I was doing my paper I did not quite grasp it at the time. It was not until the presentations I understood how it is done based on the information presented and the comments and explanation given by the professor. It was very important that I learned how to conduct the needs assessment, because my interest is working with low income individuals in different communities. Now that learned how to conduct a needs assessment I am excited to go out and gain some practical knowledge with a team. The lecture and the advocacy piece assignment helped me to understand what advocacy is all about; I now able to write, research and recognize and any advocacy document. The elevator pitch was novel to me and I had a hard time understanding how someone can give all that information in a minute. After the different scenarios that were role played during the presentations I got knowledge on how it is done. I also
Right from the beginning of this course I had a terrible feeling that I was not going to learn what I had to or finish it with a good grade. It all began when I found out that I had to be in contact with an administrator in order to obtain the data needed to complete the final project. Dirksen (2014) wrote that one should never give up, even when everything seems against you. That is exactly what I did. I tried and fortunately, I was able to find help, gain a lot of knowledge from the material I had to read, good advices from my assistant principal, and learn how analyze school data in detail and put together a Data-Driven Decision Making Team together (3D). Also, and probably the most important, I learned to think more like a leader than a teacher.
Overall, I have been very impressed with how this course is going so far. I appreciate having a short presentation on the topic each week then having the opportunity to discuss the topic with other group members. I have learned a lot from the readings as well as from other group members. By having everyone share their ideas and thoughts, I feel that I have gotten more out of this course than I had expected. With everyone coming from different educational backgrounds and experiences, it has been interesting to be exposed to different ideas and perceptions on some of these topics. In addition, having group members question and challenge my ideas have promoted me to think more in-depth and explore more closely about the topics. As of right now, there seems to be no issues with my group. Everyone participates in weekly discussions as well as writing the summary. Ideas and opinions are shared in a respectful manner
Reflect on what you have learned in this course and discuss how it might influence your work as a professional
This was a great class, and I learned a lot this semester. One thing that I learned from this class
Though there is only one semester for each course, but I feel like as if I have learned quite enough for this class. for instance, portfolio is the last assignment for this class and if we look carefully inside the portfolio; we can find three major assignments that we did this semester such as summary writing, rhetorical analysis, and trend research paper. Summary writing was sort of revision for me as I have already learned it from middle school but rhetorical analysis and the other one was new for me. I enjoyed learning about logos, ethos, and pathos which sounds like sort of high level study. Going through the third paper was challenging because there should not be a place for own opinion and all we must do is, dig the truth and prove it
The purpose of this memo is to inform you about my thoughts regarding GNEG 1201 and how taking that class can significantly affect and improve a student’s determination to succeed in getting an engineering degree.
In conclusion, so far in this class I have found many things meaningful to me. The academic success skills and tools they shared with myself and the class have actually helped me complete this essay in a timely manner. I am beyond thankful to have three great instructors to teach me more about the great Midland University and what it all has to offer. I believe that if I make the most out of this class, I am more likely to find success in the future. Module One has had a positive impact on my student life and I am beyond excited to learn more every week in the following
I agree, Marvin. Realizing this makes me see how much we have progressed throughout this course. I felt this course was very intensive, but educative at the same time because of the work we had to put in to complete harder assignments every week. Knowing these basics allows us to create a plethora of programs by ourselves.
I would like to say that this course has been as much invigorating as it was time consuming. Definitely, not one of the best subjects I've ever had, however, the most challenging of anything in my life I have taken up to now. It is one that will stick and be in my head on occasion that is for sure. It’s been a surreal experience or daunting at times trying to revise or clarify any questions you may have asked. I have enjoyed reading all of the replies or post with others and where each of you stood as well on your own selected topics.
For weeks, selected students here at Academy 1 Middle School, MS 7 and Stevens Co-op were taught college style work by Stevens University students themselves. We were taught five major engineering subjects including Trigonometry, Bio-Medical Engineering, Computer Programing, Structural Engineering, and Robotics. At first the work seemed very intimidating, wemoved at a fast past learning a new topic every week and almost all the work was completely new to us. Despite being totally mind blown, we were all dedicated and studied hard to prepare for the competition that was only weeks away. Every morning we met at 7:30 to review and practice, our Physics teacher Mr.Osenenko helped us develop a strategy that would ultimately lead us to victory. The
I sighed comfortably seeing the standard lecture setting in ENGI120 classroom with forty to fifty white chairs and tables facing front and PowerPoint of blue background and white characters projected on the screen: it looked just like the classes I had in Chinese high school. I confidently sat in the front row, laid my notebook on the desk, turned to a new page and wrote in the first line: “August 26th, 2017, ENGI120 first class”. Sitting on the chair with my back up straight, I waited for a traditional lecture on the engineering design process. Dr. Wettergreen, who later became one of the most important mentors I have ever had, was already standing in front of the podium, his white shirt buttoned up to
No team. No coach. No chance. That was what everyone had thought of us at the beginning of the season. We were the associations charity project that they had no reason to care for. We started off what would become the greatest season of our lives with eight girls. Soon after we merged with Moundsview who was in the same situation as us. From there on we traveled the state for both practices and games. Every night we were either just down the street on our home ice at Tartan or all the way in Shoreview or Blaine practicing in Mounds View's rink. Not only did we have to travel to and from for practice but we would travel the state for our games. We skated many late nights and still managed to be successful with both our family life and
I had initial thoughts of this class being extremely difficult. I am not yet sure if this is going to be true for me or not. I am still nervous about recording sessions with “clients” and having to review them. Examining recorded sessions of myself is worrisome in the sense that I have never been able to see myself communicating with someone else. I have high hopes that I am a good listener, that needs improvement. I hope by learning skills from this class I will be able to improve my skills. It will definitely be a learning experience that I am dreading but excited for at the same time. The workload of this course is going to be larger than what I was used to in undergrad, I have come to accept the reality of being a graduate student. After examining the syllabus, I noticed that the workload is not over-whelming, but it will take time management skills and dedication. I have reviewed the syllabus more than once, making sure that I had an understanding of everything that is expected of me in this course. When reading the syllabus, I did find myself questioning some of the assignments, but it stated that we would review the instructions more thoroughly during class.
