Being a learner at heart, I value continuous improvement in every aspect of my life, since staying stagnant isn’t an option. Tapping into this strength has brought me a tremendous amount of satisfaction over the years as I have maintained above 4.0 GPA, been an XQ Grant Student Representative, and developed an internship program with Vista Innovation and Design Academy. Interning with VIDA has given me practical experience with teaching and school administration, experiences I plan on providing other students by developing a teacher’s aide CTE course. My experiences at VIDA have inspired me to explore a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics major with an emphasis on teaching at the middle school level. I plan on attending one of
Shenitta Niles is on her third semester at Roxbury Community College. She got her high school diploma back in 2011 from Charles Town high school. She originally started out at Bunker Hill Community College, but later transferred to Roxbury Community College due to the low cost, convenience and transportation. Although she is a mother of a young child, she attends the college full time pursuing a major in early childhood education. Constantly being around her daughter and other young children has inspired her to pursue that career. She isn’t sure on the type of field she hopes to work at once she finishes her associate’s degree, but she will continue on to a four year college pursuing this path. Nevertheless, a long term goal of hers is to
To conclude, Miami Dade College offers innumerable opportunities, not only to its valued students, but also to its employees. Miami Dade College is a family of change makers and enthusiasts who always aim for greatness. Miami Dade has been the catalyst in my synthesis as a competitive student who refuses to stand still and watch innovation from a distance. This school has taught me to embrace change and adapt to quickly changing situations, since that is what constitutes life. My life has been a chain of events that lead to bigger events, and my stay in the college has been the biggest event that culminated in the fusion of a hardworking, perseverant, competitive, indebted young person with the right tools to flourish. I’m successful because
As a student at the University of Southern California (USC) Rossier, my contribution to the professional and academic community is to increase critical thinking, develop knowledge and build curiosity and questions among my peers in an impactful manner. I can refine my skills as I perform in a challenging field that I am enthusiastic about. My Lewis & Clark’s education, will always be represented by opportunity. I have never felt a limit on anything I can do here. There are always places to grow and understand myself and what I want from my education. Lewis & Clark is providing me with the building blocks I need to construct the solid well rounded base of knowledge I need before I can pursue a more concentrated path. I have had the great opportunity to take a diversity of classes in the arts, science, humanities, along with a few others. Coming into the school, I had no plan for what I wanted to focus my studies on, but by taking such a medley of classes, I was finally able come across a topic that
I would love to attend Wake STEM Early College High School because I believe it will give me a head start on my learning after the high school level. Your program will improve my college experience and save thousands of dollars in college tuition by giving me an associates degree and high school diploma upon graduation. I am also exceedingly interested in a career in science or mathematics. I have always been focused on learning science and math because it is something I love to do and I can have a successful career in the future by using those skills. I understand that attending this prestigious school will require a certain level of maturity and willingness to work hard. As an 8th grader at West Lake Middle School, I am a member of the National
Education and learning has been something that has fascinated me from an early age. This fascination has encouraged me to strive for the best. Throughout high school, I have managed to maintain a 3.5 GPA while participating in extracurricular activities and organizations such as Lewisville High School’s JV Dance/Drill Team, Varsity Theatre, Speech/Debate, National Honor Society, and Student Council. Along with my school involvement I have been working part-time at Chick Fil A for two years.
I remember once hearing: “To reach the impossible you just have to try a little harder”. Sometimes I feel like I don’t try my hardest, therefore I don’t get the results I want. I’m in high school right now as a junior, meaning that the decisions I make from now on are crucial and will affect my future. A big step to accomplish what I want to do when I grow up, is planning for what I will do after I graduate from high school and how I’m going to surpass the obstacles that will be presented to me. Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC), home of the blue beards, is reputed for being a “Military-Friendly College”. (DMACC) It will provide me with the opportunity to reach my dream of becoming a teacher and transferring my knowledge to the next
My love of learning and teaching will only continue to grow in TCNJ, and the Honors Program will only allow me to strengthen these loves of mine. Therefore, even though my current experiences are only the tip of the iceberg, TCNJ’s Honors Program will allow me to push myself to even greater
As a recent graduate of Iowa State University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Art and Design focusing on art history and education, the position as Education Coordinator and Advisor at Buena Vista University captured my attention as an opportunity to work with students through educational programming. As a recent college student, I provide a valuable perspective on academic advising through my own personal experiences. I have learned many advisors lack in truly connecting and catering to each student’s individual situation and needs. Buena Vista University, a relatively small area college, provides an opportunity to fully connect and provide personal one-on-one experience all students deserve. Subsequently, students gain the absolute most out of their college education. A large part of my career goals entail helping students of all ages engage, thrive and connect in their own individualized way.
Throughout my life I have been fortunate enough to receive both public and private education, shaping me into the student I am today. Although these two types of education have had their negatives and positives on me, I wouldn’t have it any other way. Since fifth grade I have attended several pre-college programs through the University of Wisconsin system and have been fortunate enough to meet great people, who eventually became my mentors. I most recently completed an internship through UW-Madison’s PEOPLE (Pre-College Enrichment Opportunity Program for Learning Excellence) program, where I worked at a summer camp with elementary school kids for five weeks. This program among others, helped me prepare for the academic rigor of college in some shape or form.
I started my path on becoming a teacher, but was turned to occupational therapy by an OT who saw potential in me; potential I didn’t know I possessed. I was apprehensive at first only because, like most people, I didn’t know what OT was. I was first exposed to it through my autistic cousin, sitting in on his therapy sessions. I was amazed at how the therapist was able to guide my cousin, teaching him skills and movements through simple puzzles and games I took for granted every day. I began doing more research and my fascination soon became my passion. I fully dedicated myself to school, cutting back on hours at work. My failure to commit myself early in my education is my biggest obstacle to date, but my C-average soon became a strong B in a few short semesters. Soon after, I found myself on the University of Houston – Downtown’s Dean’s List in the Spring of 2013 and graduated Fall 2013, majoring in Interdisciplinary Studies and a minor in English, something I thought would never
As a member of the honor roll during the entirety of my high school career, I have strived to achieve the best possible scores every marking period. Every day, I come to school with a positive attitude, and am always poised to learn something new. Over the last four years, I have taken all of the technology courses my school has to offer. I have a heavy “Engineering by Design” background, and also have become skilled with CAD software, programming, and scripting. As a result of my passion for engineering, I have won the Xerox Award for Innovation and Information Technology. Additionally, I am also very interested in Mathematics and Science, with AP Calculus and Physics being examples of courses I have taken to reflect
After our ceremonial weekend I went back home on our land and started to notice I had a feathery spirit with me. I was being followed by many types of birds. As the following weeks would go by I could hear more chirping and quacking. Every day I would see two different types of birds including Eagles, Hawks, Roadrunners, Falcons, Owls etc. I felt as though they sensed that I could communicate to them at this point. I started to study their habits and actions. I would find myself daydreaming about flying high above the clouds and balancing against the wind. I began to wonder what that would truly feel like to experience and I was dedicated to find my balance in the wind to where I could soar high and lift people up with me, which leads me to
As children growing up in a strict Southern Baptist environment, we are taught very young that the Bible is the sacred word of God and that it is not to be questioned or doubted. Therefore, it is difficult to evaluate the Bible from a literary perspective and consider the criticism against it before immediately discounting the opinions of those who call the Bible’s moral teachings or accuracy into question. Upon reading this article, I felt the familiar surge of discomfort in my gut that arises every time my beliefs are called into question. I took this opportunity to consider exactly why reading this article elicited such a strong reaction and eventually I came to the realization that the reason I felt this way is because I grew up with the Exodus story, for me it was a story of liberation and conquering that proved how powerful our God is. But the author was raised with a different perspective, raised to believe that the way of his people is absolute, their teachings are sacred and not to be questioned or doubted. So just as it was shocking for me to read someone candidly confront the Bible’s moral hypocrisy, it would be just as shocking to him to sit in a children’s Sunday school class and hear the Exodus story being told so cursorily.
19 years ago, a beautiful baby girl was born to two BYU students. Today that girl attends BYU as a freshman Mechanical Engineering student. Brought up by a Elementary Education major and a Computer Science major, she developed a love of reading at a very young age. That love of reading led to expanded horizons and developed a love of learning in the girl. She nervously began school and suprisingly found that it was very easy for her. As she continued through school, she supplemented her learning with reading, and in fifth grade she entered her first accelerated program. From then on she was largely responsible for her own home work. She continued successfully through school, being recognized for her academic acheivement in all areas. In 9th grade she took her first of many AP classes. Through AP, Honors, and Concurrent Enrollment, she graduated in the Top 30 of her class with over 30 college credits. In addition to her acheivements in school, she also joined her school 's Color Guard and participated consistently in that. Her senior year she acted as Captain of her team, and led them to be First in the state in their division. Color Guard was also key in developing her social skills. Through guard, she learned to work well with other people and she developed life long friendships. After attending high school, she applied and was accepted to BYU bringing her life full circle. In her first semester here she has continued in her academic acheivement,
