It was a warm, windy morning as I was awake at 6:30 am for my first day of 7th grade. I got ready, put my Id and book bag on and walked out the door. As soon as I walked out the door, I was hit with bright strong and warm rays of the sun. I looked up and there wasn’t a cloud in the sky. It is going to be a good day, I thought to myself as I was getting in my grandma’s car to go to school. I was not exactly excited about school. I was really just excited and nervous because I was starting band this year. When I was in sixth grade and I started learning about the band I thought maybe I should give it a try, and I always wanted to follow my Uncle's footsteps because he started playing clarinet in middle school and went on to play in Tiger Band which is Clemson University's football teams marching band. I did not get a chance to start in 6th grade so I ended up being in 7th grade beginning band. It was super stressful to begin with because I knew nothing about a clarinet or how to read music. My band teacher, Mr.Scott, was really nice and patient with me. I first learned the different parts of a clarinet and how to put it together. I also got the hang of putting my clarinet together fairly quickly. When we finally started learning how to read music, it was very hard for me, but I kept remembering FACE for the spaces and “every good boy does fine” or EGBDF for the lines. Then after I learned the notes and everything on the treble clef, I had to start learning about whole
It is the first day of fourth grade and I must say that I am nervous. Not because it's a new school or because of my core classes. Today is the day that I join the Rockford elementary concert band. At the same time I'm excited though. I had played the piano for a few years now and I did enjoy it, but the possibility of playing something different was intriguing to say the least. As the hours went by the hours the end of the day finally came. It was time for my first day of band.
Music has impacted my life in many ways. Through music I have learned that you can do and have whatever you want as long as you put the work and effort to try. As a little kid, I have never been competitive, until I came in contact with the trumpet. When I join my middle school band I learned how to be the best at something and started to learned how to be competitive as I started moving up in high school and going to competitions. Wanting that made me put so much dedication to it. Countless of hours have been on practicing the same things over and over again, giving myself no limits on what to practice. Music basically has showed me how much effort you have to put in, so I can get closer and closer to achieve my goal. As a result, I joined
Playing my clarinet is one of greatest talent that I have developed over time. I haven’t had that much time playing the clarinet either I started playing it towards the end of my sophomore year when the marching band teacher told me if I was interested in joining marching band . He gave me the instrument and then before I knew it i was having sessions with the clarinet section leader every Tuesdays and Fridays afterschool from 3:00 to 5:00 and at first I admit it was probably one of the hardest things I’ve ever done because I had no type of knowledge with music whatsoever. The clarinet was one of the first instruments I’ve ever played in my whole entire existence so it was something completely new to me but with proper guidance from the whole clarinet section I learned pretty quickly.
Learning a musical instrument can be a worthwhile and fulfilling experience. It has a host benefits, including increasing various academic skills, improving confidence, aiding with stress relief, sharpening concentration, added social benefits, and it can also change lives. A great instrument to learn is the B♭ clarinet. It is easy to learn, yet difficult to master. One of the most basic skills to be able to play the clarinet includes assembling it.
“Oh, you would make a lovely flute player!” countless people told me when I explained about joining band. I ignored them though, because my mind had been made up long ago. Percussion was the only section for me. I crept in on that first day, nervous as could be. What if I didn’t fit in? What if I wasn’t as talented as the rest of them? Luckily for me, I saw a familiar face right away- Austin Britton. He had been in my homeroom in sixth grade, and had been very kind to me. Of course, being himself he immediately tried to sell me some crap about all these crazy strict rules they had in band, but I saw right through it. Everyone else was surprisingly welcome, a characteristic I hadn’t experienced with many other people in public school so far. I immediately felt right at home. Fast forward another year, and eighth grade is upon me, bringing another band year with it. I was definitely in my element, I even tried out for district band and made it! I spent an entire day in November of that year rehearsing with other students from the surrounding area, and was able to help give an amazing concert that same night. It was one of the most enriching experiences of my life so far. By the end of middle school, I knew for sure this is where I
When delving into the historical music and sounds of the South for research purposes one might need to encounter a website with all the content they require. According to the website, https://folkways.si.edu/ known as “Folkways”, a subset page from the archives of the Smithsonian museum discusses material relating to the American South, but most of the content pertaining to music. With music being the primary focus of the website, it did not exclude text to appear and offer further insight to the topic. A web site containing audio and textual resources for furthering one’s knowledge about the South can be deemed as being an educational site. Offering audio tracks of Southern Blues and
The definition of music is very different to many people. Some say that music is the arrangement of sound and silence. Others like myself say music is that and much more. Music is an aural form of art that is used to express emotion and touch the hearts of the listener through the use of phrasing, dynamics, style and tone color. Music is a very universal art form.
Two days?! How was I supposed to complete a large project for Ethics class in two days? As it turned out, I was out sick with the flu the day the project was assigned. Of course I asked for an extension, but my teacher told me not to stress about the assignment, for was confident that I could complete it in time. I love school projects; I love putting in the effort to make something extravagant, but how can I be expected to finish this in two days- and on the subject of mass incarceration nonetheless!
Music can be a very influential and profound aspect in people’s lives. It has become such an impactful part in places all around the world and people are interested to know how it truly affects people cognitively, especially in children. Generally, people don’t tend to think about how many things that we learn in our childhood such as the ABC’s and creating a song to know and remember the days of the week, have incorporated music on a small scale. More closely, being involved in music especially in a hands-on way, is a very crucial part in cognitive development because it helps advance parts of the brain responsible for things such as language proficiency, motor skills, linguistic abilities, and speech development, yet it also helps process certain sounds in a way you may not have otherwise heard (Locker 14). This is such a meaningful topic to explore because it is something so simple that can help improve numerous parts of your brain and how it is developed.
Music is extremely important. Growing up, music always played a big role in my life. My soul works through music. It also helped me through extremely rough times in my life. When I was 7, I lost my little brother. I was mentally unstable during that period of time and music became the medicine to cure my broken soul.
College days are here and right away I’m not loving what would turn out to be the biggest blessing of all; 7:45 AM class every morning. I thought going to college meant pretending to be an adult while on the parent’s dime. Late night partying, girls, girls, and no responsibility. I woke up every morning dreaming I was still asleep with girls, girls and well, girls. The only redeeming quality was that the early class was associated with my music composition major; music theory.
In this class I have learned about 1500 years’ worth of music. Not too many of us remember vinyl or 8tracks. In my parents’ day, they would sell mixed tapes and mixed CDs at school and local clubs. Now we are a streaming generation with our iTunes and Pandora apps only being a click away on our smart devices. The music industry has changed quite a bit over the last couple of decades and it is all thanks to new technology.
The notes on a page draw my attention to the hard, rhythmic stylings of four part harmony. As the notes dance across the page adding a little crescendo here and there I am reminded why music is captivating and is extraordinarily affecting my life. Page by page, I am transported to a whole other world revolved around the textual elegance a composer has left to share. Their is always a reason why a composition does so well in its entirety because of the meaning it offers everyone of different backgrounds, lifestyles or interests. Music can bring togetherness in times of trepidation or times of need. Music is always in my life.
What makes music and dance recognizable by the English spears those are the concepts are not cross culturally shared? Some societies lack the common names for dance and music either. So as to cover this gap specific names are used to give a description of both music and dance. This is different from the other communities whereby the same name may be used to refer to the construction of music, dancing, singing and also it may be used in rituals and also in the ceremonies too. This does not change the fact that each and every social group has its own music and the music resembles the identity of the group as well. In this we will take a look on how observing this will get an explanation from a cross cultural type of perspective.
If I had a table that held objects that symbolized my life, on that table I would for sure have a music sheet, a plane, and a car. These objects may seem kind of strange and may have seemed insignificant to me before I had to write this essay, but I now realize that they do in fact relate and symbolize an aspect of my life. Whether it be how music is an important part of my life or how my sister moved away to another country, and early memories of round-tripping with my family, I will explain to you how these things are important to me.
