My First Birthday - Original Writing

Bruised and beaten, not by accident, I ran. I don’t know where I ran, I just ran. Running was never a thing I had liked to do, but for some reason at this moment I wanted to run, as far as I could possibly run. I ran until my legs collapsed underneath me, until my blistered feet could take no more, until the side of my scabbed face was resting on the damp dirt. The leaves rustled in the wind and the sweet, delectable scent of flowers caressed the field. I made it out alive, beaten, but alive. At this point, I honestly felt that I would rather die than run another step. What a great way to spend my 23rd birthday. I managed to pull myself into the shade of a large cherry blossom tree. Once again my drowsiness had overcome the strength of my eyelids and I fell into a deep slumber, swaying back and forth with the rustic train. The sunrise was magnificent, the birds chirped, the train creaked to a stop, and I gathered my few possessions and made my way downtown. There was a chill in the air, I had never been to a place so cold in the spring; in Texas the spring is much warmer. It was a good thing I had allowed my rugged beard to grow, for I would be much colder without the shaggy blanket covering my face. I wandered further into town, it was much more desolate than I am used to. There were abandoned shops lining the street and there was a small store that seemed open. As I got closer the shop on the corner, I realized it said “Luna’s Coffee Shop and Café.” I decided I was willing to spend the limited money I had on a warm refreshment. As I walked through the door I saw her. She was stunning, she was delicate, she was divine, and she was fascinating. I couldn’t keep my eyes off of her delightful face. Her eyes sparkled even without sun and her smile warmed my soul even in the coldest of places. Her presence gave me the feeling of comfort and well-being. Just by looking at her, it made me want to learn more about this beautiful being. “Welcome sir! How may I help you?” she said with a smile on her extravagant face. I couldn’t think of anything else to say except, “Um... do you have coffee?” I felt stupid the second I said that. Of course she has
