I gained valuable work experience and specialized skills at various jobs while attending junior school , high school and community college. Each job took me out of my comfort zone by meeting new people whom had different ethics, work experience, and financial backgrounds than my own. My first job was at The Whale's Tale Ice Cream Shop in the Hamptons, an exclusive vacation destination in New York. The following summer I put in an application at the Vine Street Cafe which is a high-end restaurant in the Hamptons. That same summer I worked in the morning shift as a busboy for the Chequit Inn. From this experience I learned that hard work and dedication are key factors to being successful. Those principles have helped me excel at each job I've
It was not until after high school I experienced the working world. Since then, most of my past work experience has been in the hospitality field. Whether as an attraction attendant at a theme park or
My first job is at a trucking company located in Derry. Adding a job to my schedule now was not too stressful because it was only the first week of my junior year. Also by now in high school everything is predictable the first few days of instruction. We start the first few days of instruction going over the course material and expectations. Thus, letting me have more free time in the afternoon the first week. I started my first shift on a Monday, it was so hot outside. I can remember seeing the heat rise off of the truck hoods. I restored headlights and washed a couple of the box trucks there for the day. I was surprised how easy this was, and remember going home and telling my parents “This is the easiest job ever”. I was beginning to get a taste of what it is like to have a job.
I realized after being able to handle an angry customer positively, I have matured working at Wendy’s. To be able to not step out of character when someone you don’t know is yelling at you because of tomatoes is huge. Having a job helped me practice professional skills. I also had to learn to save money because the same weekend I got my check I spent half of it. My first job made me feel like a complete adult, and although it was stressful, maturing is a step in life I knew I was going to face soon
began in grocery, since then I have worked as a deli/bakery clerk, a retail sales associate, and
As soon as I graduated from college I became a pharmacy technician at Walgreens. There I worked for two years. I acquired experience that no other institution can provide nor teach me. I learned not only about my interpersonal workings and more so about who I am when I am outside of my comfort zone. Having that job expanded my communication skills to a point where I can adapt to any environment or group of people and still be who I am. Customers became an importance to my life. I was able to related to them a personal level and a healthcare provider. Many patients had family members came to the pharmacy who had cancer. Having to be able to relate to their situations helped them to get through the hardships and giving them comfort
I began working at the age of eight years old at the restaurant. For me it was exciting, I wasn’t doing anything that I did not do at home, but I was making money. For an eight year old it was like allowance but it was much more than any of my friends. My dad admired the fact that I always worked extra hard, but little did he know that I saw what happened to my older sibling who were trying to live a normal teenage life, and being shunned for not wanting to give their all to his dream. I was eight years old, I really did not have a choice. By the time I was ten years old, the restaurant had been going pretty well, so dad decided to open a candy store next door to the restaurant for guess who to manage, yes me. I was his pride and joy and he knew that with my hard work that I would be a success. Of course at ten years old, I was completely excited for the opportunity. Little did I know that the people that I would be managing would be my older siblings who were not to excited about having to answer to a ten year old.
Funnily enough, I discovered what I really wanted to do when I started working at Chick-fil-A before my sophomore year. All of my friends had warned me against working in fast food, quoting horrible smells and ridiculous customers. But I needed a summer job, and I had to start somewhere. The first few months were tough because I didn’t really know too many of my coworkers, but I spent a lot of time talking to and serving guests. Here I developed my passion for
When you think of your first job, a lot of us think of our teenage years when we needed money to go out with friends and keep with the latest trends. During this time, we took any job we could get, from fast food
My current employment for Walgreens/ Duane Reade provided me with many opportunities to develop new skills such as, utilizing data, being compliant with the law and regulations. It also allowed me to develop understanding for daily operations and procedures such as: cash handing, safety, compliance.
During my sophomore year of high school, one of my teachers approached me and asked if I was interested in a job for the summer at the country of a local country club. While I was nervous at first, I accepted the job, and have now completed two successful summers there. The experience of having a summer job taught me many things; and as I continued to take on more and more responsibilities over the summer, I learned even more about how to be responsible at all times and to empathize with someone in order to understand their perspective and to help improve their experience.
When I entered the workforce at 16, there weren’t many high paying jobs available for someone with absolutely no previous work experience. The only job available for me was in the fast food industry, so my first job was at TacoBell. Working at TacoBell, exposed me to my very first management style.
Having my first genuine job was a big change for me, coming into an environment with people a lot older than me. It was frightening at first; I was a tad intimidated to be frank. nevertheless I took this opportunity to every advantage I could acquire. I have many responsibilities, those include:
When I was 16 I got my first job at a store called Bluenotes, a store that specialized in denim for under $50.00. I was one of four people hired over the holiday season and there was one permanent position available after January. I focused on memorizing every aspect of the products we offered and providing the best service I could. By the end of December, I could guess a client’s waist and inseam measurement in an instant simply by looking at
I have held onto the same job at a dental office since I was 15 and it has taught me numerous qualities that I will always hold onto. Being able to interact with different people outside of my peers at school has taught me maturity, communication, independence and patience. Every day I encounter numerous people and I am able to speak with them about finances, insurance coverage and future dental work because of my job and its professional requirement. My
