According to the Learning Style Inventory my learning style is auditory with visual and kinesthetic coming in a tied at second place. I will use this information of my learning styles, to take advantage of the resources that are available online and on campus to be a motivated learner. My strategies are to use audio files as well as read material aloud when necessary, create study sheets with important highlighted information and take notes as I read assignments and other course material. These strategies fall in the auditory, visual and kinesthetic categories that will sure help me focus to stay on track in this new journey that is college. As I read and learn more about my learning styles, I will try to employ each technic that I learn.
According to my learning style assessment, it says, that I am a visual learner. I agree with this assessment because I am a person who likes to study alone rather than study in group, and see things face to face. But, I also like to do group projects, I am outgoing and not have trouble with spoken directions, like it says visual learners have. A visual learner likes to learn by using poster, worksheets and flashcards. They also are distracted by sounds and will have trouble following lectures for more than 10 to 15 minutes. Three strategies I will use to help enhance/ improve my learning style are; “Taking classes that offer more lecture-based learning than written study materials, record your notes verbally and play them back to learn them
My preferred learning style is auditory. I can use mnemonic devices, such as flash cards with audio to my advantage in school. The repetition of the flash cards would help me in science where there is lots of information to remember. Reading the information, text, stories, assignments, out loud would help me to fully understand the context. I can also read my drafting work out loud, so that it is less likely to miss any errors. During class, I can ask my teacher more questions or to explain certain concepts.
By taking the learning style inventory and survey, I found that there is a unique way for me to study and absorb key information. The survey allowed me to learn more about myself as a person and taught me whether I am a visual, audio, or tactile learner. I found this out by completing and reviewing the results of the assessment. I could see that the best way for me to study would be by taking notes, reviewing them and making flash cards as I am more of a visual learner. With this new information, I will now be able to utilize my study time in a more efficient way. This inventory also showed me the best ways for me to interact with people and how I will better serve my future career environment. The learning style inventory and assessment has taught me a great deal about myself and the best way to learn.
I am writing this memo to share the results of my learning styles assessment, see attachments, and to discuss possible ways I can better learn knowing this information.
People have different learning style. According to the VAK Learning Style Indicators, my learning style is quite not clear which is tend to be physical but very close to visual and auditory. Because of in university or college even high school in some cases is very stressful. Student live in a very intensive environment, so it is very significant to let the student know what their learning style is. Let them concentrate on using the learning style that they good at. So, I am going to introduce my current learning style, the tasks I find which is the most easiest or difficult and the strategies I think it would be useful in university due to my learning style.
My own dominant learning style from Honey (2006) questionnaire includes; Activist and Theorist. (Kolb, 1984) suggested that nobody learns totally in only one style, we all tend to fall under the one descriptor and obtain qualities or characteristics from the others.
To start off, I’m a kinesthetic and auditory learner. For example, I’m a kinesthetic, auditory learner because I’m very good at sports like tackle football, baseball, basketball and other sports. I’m good at tackle football because I have been playing football for eight seasons and basketball for two. Accordingly, I’m good at good at listening, reading, writing, because I use flashcards to help me study and if I can’t hear I ask if she can repeat what she said again. In addition, I’m very good at science every year that I am in science I have scored higher than the average score for all the grades I have been in. To sum,it all up these are my learning style techniques that is why I’m an auditory and kinesthetic learner.
The experience we have of a course determines the amount of information we get out of it. While many of us have had a bad experience in a course, we may have just chalked it up to the material being too difficult; while that may have been the reason, the more likely reason is that your learning style did not match the teaching style of your professor. We all learn and think in different ways and my experience a vast difference in learning and teaching style can ruin the experience you have in a course. After taking a learning style survey and seeing somewhat different results than what I had expected to see, I had to take a step back and reevaluate the way I thought I learned.
Picture this, you’re at work and trying to explain to your subordinate how to flight follow an aircraft, but they just can’t grasp what you’re saying. You go over the checklist and explain in detail, why every step matters. The look on their face, confused! You’ve probably reached the point of frustration, but you may be overlooking an important fact, not everyone learns the same way you do. In order to be a better instructor or supervisor, you must understand, there are different learning styles. Multiple learning styles can be discussed, but, visual, auditory, and tactile/kinesthetic are probably the most common.
I haven’t thought about my learning styles recently. Nevertheless, since I enrolled back in school, I had to refocus my life and career to fit the way I learn. I recognize that everyone thinks and learn differently because if everybody was the same the world would be screwed up. More important, I am interested to learn what learning styles work best for me. I always felt that I was a hands-on kind of person. For instance, my first restaurant job some years ago, during a training session I notice I would absorb more info when I prepared the food rather than someone preparing it for me. I guess if more people were taught in an environment where data were presented in a style that complements their learning style it would be beneficial for them.
A learning style is an individual’s unique approach to learning based on strengths, weaknesses, and preferences. There are three primary ways in which a person can learn. Those include visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. A visual learner is known to absorb more information by utilizing visual aids such as graphs, charts, or index cards. Auditory learners prefer to hear the information to learn it. Kinesthetic learners use more of a hands-on approach by touching or doing. I considered each of these learning styles before attending the American Public University System to get a degree online.
My learning style is a visual learner. I am able to comprehend and work to the best of my ability when I am able to see the problem and the work written to solve it. Seeing/taking detailed notes is easier for me to learn a lesson than listening to a discussion because I can see the work and word terms without worrying about forgetting them. I learn best as a visual learner because I am able to see all the steps to solve a problem and I am able to figure out where I might need to fix a mistake. During math class in eighth grade, I was able to completely understand a lesson that I considered confusing in previous years. Another time during math class, I got a good grade on a test, when I thought I was going to get a C. There are many things that
Everyone has different types of studying styles but there are only 3 useful learning styles. They are visual, auditory and tactile. One way to know if a person prefers a visual learning style is through studying the learning material with graphs, charts, maps, notes, and flashcards. They are usually picturing words or ideas in their head. Another way to know if a person prefers a auditory learning style is through using tapes as a useful source for notes and they talk to other classmates to review the lesson.
I am 18 year old female who lives on campus and am a first time college student with a full time course load. I do not have a job, but I am an athlete (I play golf). In Unit 1, for me, the most helpful topics we learn about were the learning styles and time management. The three learning styles are auditory, visual, and kinesthetic. I discovered that I was a visual and kinesthetic learner. I already knew I was a visual learner (someone who learns best from seeing things), but was unaware I was just as much of a kinesthetic learner. A kinesthetic learner is someone who learns best by doing instead of just listening or reading. Kinesthetic learners enjoy hands-on learning. After learning this new information, I started to make an extra effort to practice the material I was learning in class instead of just listening to the lecture and rereading my notes and the textbook. This was most beneficial in my chemistry class. I practiced completing equations over and over until I got the correct answer every time, which paid off in the end because I ended up not missing a single equation on the test. I use my visual side of learning by in psychology by picturing the information as real life scenarios and in speech by writing out and rewriting lines to help me memorize my speech. It is imperative that as a student beginning at IUSB, that you understand your learning style since studying with the wrong learning style would make it difficult to succeed. Once a student knows their style,
According to Kolb’s (1984) many people recognize that each person prefers different learning styles and techniques. Learning styles group common ways that people learn. Everyone has a mix of learning styles. Some people may find that they have a dominant style of learning, with far less use of the other styles. Others may find that they use different styles in different
