My Learning Style As A Visual Learner

My learning style remains to be a tactile-kinesthetic learner. I’ve taken numerous learning style tests before and I always have the same results. This implies that I learn best when physically doing a project or activity. It does not mean that if I write items down I will not remember them, I will. My photographic memory is not off, but, it would stick better if I did projects hands-on. It helps to visualize the points I have read or are hearing about to get a better understanding of its background. Therefore, I enjoy creating ideas that will help learn by making displays as well as posters. I even play games to assist myself. While reading or listening to an instructor, I often shuffle my feet around or click my writing utensil. This helps

On the other hand the learning style I use the least is auditory. With auditory learners you learn best through hearing and listening. I can say I agree with this, honestly when it comes to lecture based classes I find myself thinking about something different or thinking how I can teach myself when I get home in a different way. Auditory learners like to listen, so when studying they read their flashcards or notes out loud versus me who has to see the card and try to think back of what I did with my hands that will help me remember

My learning style is a pragmatist since I like to get feedback from others about my work, I like to experiment and try things out and I would rather get on with tasks rather than talk about. The good learning situations from being a pragmatist is I have a clear link between thinking and what has to be done, when there are opportunities I always try to try them out, and I am happy to copy from role models since it benefits me as I gain more knowledge as to what I need to do. The bad learning situations I get from this is a m unable to identify the relevance of what sometimes needs to be done in a task and I do not like not having guidance on how to do things as I get stuck very easily.

I have two learning styles that tied. It would be thinking and watching. I knew I was a visual learner but found more about myself that I have imagined. I learned that I like to think while learning and analyzing what is being taught. I am very much a visual learner, when I am in a classroom setting I need to see what we are doing not just a lecture. When its just a lecture my mind wanders and I do not get what was being taught. I only wished more instructors/teachers taught visually. I know this is a weakness of mine so I am going to work on this the best to my ability. At the beginning of the semester an assignment was given out in regards to assessing your learning styles. Upon doing the assignment I felt that I already knew the results I would obtain due to the fact that I did the same assignment my sophomore year of college. I was totally surprised with my results because they showed that I am becoming a more balanced learner. In previous assignments the results would usually show that I am more of one type of learner than another. My learning styles reflected that I am an active, sensory, visual and global learner. Knowing this aided in my success in this class as well as others because I started to apply this information into how I prepared or retained information for classes.

The learning style I identified with is read/write. I basically learn things better by reading and writing things down. As you read and write things down it makes it easier for me to remember things better. If I continuously re-read things, I would remember them for a long time. And if I re-write things I’d be ably to remember it for a long time as well. I learn best by actually finding something interesting or fun to learn about. I do not really learn by writing things down because sometimes you write something down and it is way more different than the real subject. Listening does not not help me learn also because I daydream a lot and then I do not pay attention to what is being read. Looking at pictures does a bit of the job because it helps you see things and then you will memorize them. Looking at pictures is a better way for me to learn because it is more easier to just see the pictures memorize them and then just go along with the next things. Writing things also helps me learn a bit more by just having at least relocatable notes that will help you with something later on. Sometimes I work fast and slow in my classes, it sometimes depends on how I am feeling because if I am feeling down then I do not feel like doing no work at all and if I am feeling energetic or happy i do my work and i do it very well.

According to VARK, my learning style is Kinesthetic. As a matter of fact, Kinesthetic learning style is a learning style in which I learn best with direct involvement. Furthermore, VARK states that my preferred learning style uses experiences and things that are real. Additionally, I would learn better using my senses, as in field trips, real life examples, or trial and error. Not to mention, one Houston College article states that I should make things with my studies for recall. Another suggestion, is that I write my answers down or prepare index cards.

Sonya, I am a visual and kinesthetic learner, which means that I have to see something done and then physically do it with my hands to fully understand the concept. In high school, I had trouble reading something off of the computer and being able to remember it. But if I had actual copy of a textbook in my hand, I was able to pick up and remember the information quickly and easily. It is so cool that we have a few of the same learning styles.
