This week, I went over the topic of resume with my mentees. I prepared for the meeting by reviewing the resumes checklist. I felt comfortable presenting this material because I have received a lot of feedback on my resume from the career center and other professionals. I also printed out the Resume Building worksheets which were pulled from the CSUS Career Center Handbook. In addition, I also took them to the Career Center to receive advice on their resume.
I believe this topic was useful for my mentees because they were able to learn about the different techniques of writing a resume. First, I went over the checklist with my mentees and I asked them to bring their resume so that I could review it. I was able to provide feedback on their resume
Peter uses a great format for his resume. He has clear headings for each section, and he uses reverse-chronological order to list his education and experience. He uses bullet points to list the job responsibilities for each position, and he starts off each bullet point with an action verb.
This reflective memo has been composed to discuss my experience with developing a new resume using the information I’ve learned in a Professional Writing course. With this assignment, I was encouraged to explore beyond my comfort zone, and as a result I located a job I may actually consider applying too. Carrie is the student development coordinator here on campus. I grew up in California where both of my parents were involved with gangs and drugs by the time they were in middle school. They grew up like this, getting involved with the wrong people, getting into fights for dumb reasons, even getting in trouble with the authorities. Of course, that was normal for them because they were surrounded by it through friends and family. They continued to live that life style even when they met each other at the ages of 18 and 23. They didn't like each other at first, but they eventually started dating. My mom ended up getting pregnant later that year and tried to take a break from all of it, but my dad didn't stop and that caused some tension and arguing between them.

I really enjoyed our lecture today by Esperanza Gonzalez. I definitely feel more prepared to write my resume. I have a clearer understanding of what an employer will be looking for. I now know that my resume should be no longer than two pages. Ms. Gonzalez outlined the important components to include and the essential topics to cover. I was a little surprised to learn that I will need six references. Ms. Gonzalez gave several examples to show how I can make my resume unique. I really like that she explained formatting and font selection. I was excited to learn that Ms. Gonzalez is willing to review your resume and provide feedback. I will definitely take advantage of this resource.
The resume should be up to date. It should chronicle your experiences from high school until the present. It should be presented in a professional and complete manner. If you need help writing or refining a resume, you can ask your college’s career services department.
This was a mock resumé that I created in my 12th grade AP english class. The resumé was used as a practice for when we need to create them for professional jobs later in life. We were asked to create a resumé in a standard format and include information about ourselves that would make a potential hiring manager want to pick us. I highlighted all of my achievements and my academic successes, as well as including my interests and contact information.
