My usual method for writing an essay made it hard for me to start and actually continue into writing it. I would first start out and open a word document; Then, I would try and figure out how I was going to write the entire paper in my head, which made it really difficult sometimes. Starting the essay was definitely my worst enemy because I didn’t know what to start with or how to go about most papers. My method has changed since this class. I always knew what an outline was but now I have implemented it into my pre-writing. Before, I write I try to make an outline of all of the topics that will go into the essay. After, the outline is finished, the biggest lesson I’ve learned to get my paper started is to simply start typing. It doesn’t matter …show more content…
I would be more creative and energetic about the essays I actually wanted to write than the ones I didn’t want to; Therefore, I believe I took less time on the ones I wanted to write and more on the ones I didn’t. I don’t know exactly how much time it took me but the topics I enjoyed, it would take me a single night. The ones I didn’t enjoy I would use my technique I learned to just randomly start typing. I would start my paper one day and try to get as much as I could on the paper until I felt I could come back the next day feeling better about it; Therefore, the topics I didn’t like usually took me two. My original attitude about writing in general was that I was not good or interested at it. My current attitude for writing has changed a lot. In English 1101 and 1102, the teachers would make us write about topics they chose and it never intrigued me. In this class, we got to pick some of our topics and it helped me become more interested. Now, I feel more interested in writing when I get to write on a topic I like. I believe I have learned to include sensory details into my writing through this class and it really intrigues the …show more content…
It was also one of the most fun essays because I got to try to write a poem. I have never really tried to write a poem but always admired them. It was challenging in the fact because I really wanted my poem to rhyme. It took me thirty minutes to come up with about ten short lines for a poem. It was a long time to think about the rhymes I was going to use but it was challenging and fun for me. The easiest essay I wrote in this class was also very enjoyable. It was my essay about the golf tournament I went to. I included sensory details into it and hoped to bring people’s attention to my writing through it. I enjoyed the essay a lot because it was a true story on a great experience I had in a golf tournament. The activities that assisted me in preparing for each essay were simply an outline. Although, I’m not sure if randomly typing to start an essay would qualify for an activity, it helped me a lot. The outline was very helpful for me to understand how my essay was going to be written. I can’t remember what activities that were not helpful because I don’t remember using any other ones other than the
All of these things - diction, details, language, syntax - must be woven seamlessly together to create a sound essay. That is hard work, hard work that I did not want to do. I love writing, but I struggled more than I thought I would and feared that my lack of creativity would write the essay instead of granting me control. But before I could take control of actually writing, I needed to decide what to write about.
Learning how to develop an outline before starting my essay is probably the biggest help. At the beginning, I thought you just start writing. I did not know to start with an outline. The outline helps me get my thoughts organized. I thought completing an outline would be redundant. Furthermore, the outline alone has improved my confidence.
Writing essays have never been easy for me. Describing my thoughts and feelings just don't seem to turn into the right words I want to say. Coming up with a theme and an argument is hard to convey, making the reader see what I'm truly trying to say. The hardest parts of writing essays for me is coming up with the right things to say that correlate to my argument and doing so under a short period of time.
Essay writing became difficult when I started 10th grade Honors English. My papers would never get above a C which baffled me. I had done well in previous English classes prior and received high marks on all my creative writing assignments. By the end of the year I realized it had to do with my thought process. My imagination wasn’t beneficial when it
The most difficult part as a writer just beginning is the use of proper grammar, and punctuation. Grammar can affect the entire essay if it's not used correctly. Improving my critical thinking will enhance my writing. The writing process isn't always the easiest thing to accomplish. Drawing attention to the essay is important. There are several ways to drawing attention, and accomplishing a overall good essay.
To be honest, I have never really enjoyed writing that much. Even though I don't enjoy the activity, years of english classes have made it easier and more bearable for me. In addition these classes have taught me numerous techniques and tips for crafting a fine paper. Even though I have a few good qualities that make me a decent writer, I believe that my greatest one is my ability to plan and structure essays. When I write a larger paper I start with an outline that plans out my introduction, main points, sub-points, and conclusion. This outline helps me organize my thoughts, so when it comes to writing my actual essay the process is faster and my ideas are coherent and easier to understand. Outlining my papers before I write
Today, time and experience have taught me some immensely better tactics for writing essays and papers in general. I've found that by getting an early start on my assignments, I have much more time to focus on the overall quality
after choosing a interested topic, I spend roughly twenty minutes for prewriting stage. Then, I refresh my brain by standing up, walking around or just closing my eyes and listening to relaxing instrumental music for thirty minutes. Later on when I come back to build my outline with fresher mind, I can carefully select the supportive ideas and get rid of the one which off the topic. I spend a lot of time to organize the ideas for my outline because having a well-arranged outline helps me stay focus on my assignment. The following stage is writing. I start to write after I left the outline aside for hours or a day (depending on how hard my assignment is). After that, I read my essay verbally to make sure that my papers have coherency and smooth
Once analyzing, brainstorming, and outlining is complete it’s time to write. Beginning the writing process is the hardest for me. The beginning of each paragraph is difficult, especially when I know what I want to say, but don’t know how to write it. It is hard to write what I want to express in each paragraph. Time is either my savior or my enemy I prefer not to be rushed when I’m writing. Some people can write for days in a limited time and others need time to process and think, like me. I tend to overthink everything when I’m writing and that usually gets in the way and puts a stop to my writing. I constantly reread every paragraph and write and then reread again. Rereading also gets in the way of finishing a timed essay. Writing becomes easier when there is no stress present. After all the distractions are gone writing becomes easier.
For me, this is the hard part. Starting out an essay that focuses on one topic, or something that I’m not particularly fond of. That’s one thing I really dislike about English, being limited on the topic, or being assigned a topic that you have to write specifically about. Writing is somewhat boring to me, and I don’t exactly know why, but starting it out feels almost impossible to me a lot of the time. Sometimes, writing is fun for me though. Once in a while when I write, I feel like I’m alone, everything drowns out, like smells and sounds. But when writing things, I prefer to try to challenge myself and continuously try to improve myself, the same with reading.
Before I enrolled at Daytona State, I attended Phoenix University online where I took the course University Academic Writing. In the beginning of this course, we learnt about the steps of writing an essay by first starting with prewriting. Back in middle school and high school, my only exposure to the concept of prewriting was a type of brainstorming that involves drawing a main circle with the overall topic and then adding adjacent circles with sub-topics, of which then branch out with information. Nowadays, I prefer to use two methods that I learnt in the writing course: invisible writing and outlining.
First in the writing process is planning the essay. This can be between easy to seemingly impossible. Brainstorming ideas for an essay can be hard. Researching can also be hard unless organized and precise with information. This first step
Throughout the other assignments they either came easy or with a like work it all worked out for the because. My favorite essay to write was the literary analysis. It was a great way to start the class because it was a mood setter for me. I knew from he started that I did not want the problem I had with the previous papers to reveal themselves in
I like to make an outline before I start typing because it gives my papers more structure. When I’m typing on the computer and I don’t have a outline it takes me even longer to write. I feel like I’m just starting at a blank screen waiting for ideas to come to me. When I’m writing a outline I break it down by paragraphs and three
Creating an outline worked exceptionally well for me. It helped me form a guide to know what I would be writing about versus just winging it. Writing out all of the ingredients and instructions ahead of time acted as a checklist for me to make sure I would not miss anything important within my essay.
