It is hard to believe Foundations of Writing is already over, but as I reflect on the past semester, I realize how beneficial this class has been. Not only has my writing improved, but my confidence in my abilities to write have grown as well. I’ve become more aware of how much writing will impact my future, and after this class, I feel like I will be able to handle it. There is still room for improvement, but Foundations of Writing has pushed me to become the best writer I can possibly be. I believe that my approach to writing has changed over the course of the semester. My confidence in my writing has grown, as well as my knowledge in sentence structure, grammar, and word choice. At the beginning of the year, I doubted my writing abilities, but at this point, I feel as though I can handle large, intricate papers. I did not expect my writing to change drastically, but I did expect the small, technical details in my papers to improve, and I think they did. Overall, I have grown about as much as I expected to as a writer, and it has been very beneficial. Although I have gotten better at writing, there are still areas for me to work on improving for the future. One item is my word choice. I want to add more complex words to my writing in order to make it more interesting for the reader, and I also want to try not to repeat “basic” words as much. Overall, I feel that both my quality of writing and writing process have improved over the course of the semester. This was important because in my first writing analysis statement at the beginning of the year, the two main things that I wanted to improve on were my quality and process. Throughout the semester, I learned to rely less on teacher comments and revisions and instead improve on my self-revision process, which was almost non-existent before I came to college.
After analyzing many of my written works, I highlighted my writing weaknesses along with notable strengths. Evident in my earlier works, my vocabulary was more basic and was not as powerful unlike my more recent essays. Seeking to improve, I started utilizing words I learned during the year

This course offers numerous opportunities to improve our writing. In this class, I not only enhanced the skills I already had, but also learned new writing concepts. Before I took this class, I knew that my writing is poor, and I have always wanted to improve it; however, I did not know how and what aspects of writing to improve. So, I came into this class with the ambition to improve my writing, and I have accomplished my goal although there is still room for improvement. This semester has been full of different types of writing styles and writing topics. Throughout the semester of being in College Writing One we wrote a visual critique, critical review, rhetorical analysis, and an argument synthesis essay. All of the types of writings came with the struggles, strengths, and the learning parts to them. Overall writing all those different types of styles and topics I feel like I have become a little bit of a better writer than I was when I walked into the class back in January.
To begin with, my punctuation has gotten a lot better. I made a lot of errors during the beginning of the year and I am starting to make a lot less. Also, my thesis statements have gotten tremendously better. At the beginning of the year they were really boring. As the year began to progress, the statements got more interesting and creative. My analysis throughout essays have gotten better. I am much better now at determining things like theme, tone, and finding many literary devices. I can also set up my essays
I feel towards the beginning of the year, my work was more planned out, edited to not exactly the full extent, since a work can never be perfect. My first paper, I used all the peer reviews given to me and then your edits as well. By the end of a paper I would usually have 2 drafts. One for my peers, then I edit it and show it to you for you to edit. So after those two I would turn in my final. I feel I filled each of my assignments expectations and wrote everything in the right tense at the right length. My writing performance improved since the beginning of the semester. I started by making like quick points and doing the basic 5 paragraph essay. Now I know you can make a stronger point without using the basic writing style learned in high
‘During eighth grade I have improved in the department of narrative writing and using better vocabulary in my writing pieces. This year I feel that my narratives have improved not only in how I write them and the length. I had always had trouble getting enough ideas to put into my narratives, and I really struggled with finding the right words to make them complete. I also struggled with finding good transition words and putting them into my story. One of the problems with word choice I had was, I would put the same word in each sentence and it sounded weird, but I had a very limited range of vocab word that I knew so it was hard for me to find any other good words to use in my pieces. But over time I have expanded my vocab and it is now very easy for me to find good words to use in my
I have also realized that there are going to be many times you have to scrap ideas and start over. This semester I have realized that I try and perfect my assignments too much to where I start to crunch on time because it wasn’t to my expectation and I started over to many times, that there is in fact a way that too much thought can be put into a paper to where it becomes cluttered. The biggest growth I’ve seen over this semester is overall just my writing in general. At the beginning, my writing was very basic. My sentences were all around the same size and it was just not at the level of writing I would have liked it to be. I know that writing will always be an important thing in my life. I’m taking Foundations of Writing to prepare myself for college and to learn how to become a better writer. I will use what I learned in this class while I am writing college papers or even for a future job.

After looking at my writing assignments I think that my writing style has not changed much since the beginning of the semester. I use the same format as I did in the beginning to write my Literary Responses as well as the Homework assignments. Although the style and formatting of my papers did not change much, I think my analysis of the works have improved. I am able to describe the artworks better, and I have an easier time reading the Literary Response passages and interpreting it to my writing. In the beginning I struggled with writing these essays, but as the course went on it become easier for me to write them. These assignments really help’s with writing the essays on the exams, I am able to describe works more thoroughly and I can get my thoughts on paper

Over the course of this past semester, my ability to write has improved tremendously. Prior to undertaking this course, my expertise in writing was not as fine-tuned as it should have been. I had never previously been enrolled in a class specifically tailored to writing-- which was quite clear. Upon reading my past works, it becomes apparent that my writing style consisted of fluff, small words, and inconsistently structured sentences. These problems have, for the most part, been remedied with the coursework I have tackled in College Writing. Rather than long, drawn out papers that take an eternity to reach the primary point, my recent work is much nicer in terms of composition and grammar. I credit these improvements to the three primary
Over the course of the semester, there has been numerous amount of areas where I believe I have improved in comparison to high school. What has helped me in my writing is the writing class and the in-class writing workshop. The writing class that is located in the Kremen education building has helped me with my writing greatly because in the writing center the person in charge teach us lenses and we apply those lenses to the writing, draft, or reading that someone brings in. The in-class writing workshop has helped me because other students get to read my writing. This is helpful because I get feedback from many students and they let me know what needs to be fixed. A new tool I have been using is They Say I Say. The book is very helpful because of the information and examples it provides such as the templates. I have been applying the templates into my essays and I have seen a significant difference.
