My Wish By Rascal Flatts Analysis

Success and happiness is something everyone should want in their life. I’m sure most people are familiar with the songs “My wish” by Rascal Flatts and “I hope you dance” by Lee Ann Womack. Both of these songs are saying to give confidence and never give up on the the things you love. “I Hope You Dance” and “My Wish” are very alike in a sense that they are both about going somewhere in life and being happy, but there are a few differences that are hard to recognize.

The article “The Distinct, Positive Impact of a Good Dad” focuses a lot on the basic impact of how much of an influence a dad is to a child’s life. It explains the difference between how the father impacts the child’s life in a more “open arms” way whereas, a mother has a more “closed arms” impact. Having a good dad around in a child’s life is more likely to make for a better future for the kid, compared to a child who doesn’t have a good dad in their life or little to no dad at all they have a less likely chance for a better future as studies have shown. Everyone has a father. No matter if the father is present in a child’s life or not, he still exists and takes that role. A father has a major impact on his child whether he knows it or not, and that impact and example shapes the child’s perspective on life, and on love. The authors, Robert Hayden and Lucille Clifton, share the impact of their fathers through poetry, each with their own take on how their fathers treated them. The poems “Forgiving My Father” and “Those Winter Sundays” have significant differences in the speaker’s childhood experiences, the tone of the works, and the imagery presented, which all relate to the different themes of each poem.

Although single parenthood is on the rise in homes today, children still often have a father role in their life. It does not matter who the part is filled by: a father, uncle, older brother, grandfather, etc...; in almost all cases, those relationships between the father (figure) and child have lasting impacts on the youth the rest of their lives. In “I Wanted to Share My Father’s World,” Jimmy Carter tells the audience no matter the situation with a father, hold onto every moment.

An ideal father should be someone who nurtures and lovingly cares for his offspring, and some kids are blessed by this opportunity growing up to spend time with their father, even if their parents are divorced. A father-child relationship can be a good thing for some people, and problematic for others. There are different types of fathers. There are fathers who are always around their children, who give unconditional love and guidance. Then there are hard-to-please fathers who drain their children with extremely high expectations, leading to a strained relationship. Moreover, there are fathers who cannot handle the responsibilities that come with fatherhood, this type of fathers walk out on the family when the situation gets tough. Many people see their fathers in one way as a child and grow to see them in a whole different light as adults. The richness and complexity of the child and father relationship are the reason many poets write about fatherhood and fathers.

Parents always want their children to succeed and in the short essay, “Listening to My Father”, Michael Dirda discusses how a father wants his son to succeed in his life. In the second sentence, the author states, “He yearned to see my name-his name, too - metaphorically or even actually in light, and was constantly urging me from an early age to better myself “(Paragraph 1 sentence 2). The father wants his son to learn, and explore in order to have a better life than his. Even though the father is strict towards his son, he shows affection when the son ends up getting sick. Every Father plays a symbolic role in another child’s life, he can always be there for you and provide you with what you need and sometimes what you want. A father can be there for you to teach you the rights and the wrongs in life, even though sometimes you don’t want to believe he’s right. A father can teach you how to become a man and teach you to become an athlete if you choose to be one, he will teach you self-discipline and do everything in his power to make sure you will be successful in what you want to do. Some people, unfortunately do not have a father who can do all of these things for whatever the reason may be. Luckily I was blessed with a father who could do all these things and end up becoming my biggest influence in life and the game of baseball.

According to Allgood, Beckert, and Peterson (2012), researchers are beginning to understand the importance of examining children’s perspectives and the relationships and levels of involvement children have with their fathers.

According to the U.S. Census, one in three children, or approximately fifth teen million, are growing up without their father. This is what I would consider an epidemic because the numbers continue to rise yearly. With the numbers continuing to grow, American children continue to suffer. It is critical that a father is positively active in their child or children’s lives because father’s provide a sense of safety, mothers cannot teach a child everything that a child needs to know, and households gain balance when the father is present. I will now better explain.

It is evident that fathers across all cultures are different along with their way of parenting their offspring’s, but ages also change or stay the way we parent our offspring’s and the kind of care we offer them. Most mothers and fathers love their kids with all their heart. As a child begins to age, parents begin to influence their kids and will mold them as they mature. However, parents without much care for their kids will leave a long-term effect on their children and in this study, the main impact is the father.

Becoming a father is a life changing experience. Most fathers will remember that one special day for the rest of their lives, while other fathers say the day their child was born was the day their life as they knew it was over. After sitting down and interviewing three different fathers who had three very different experiences before and after child birth my eyes have been opened to the multiple views, experiences, memories, and feelings these three gentlemen have experienced or will soon experience. Mr. Snyder who is currently awaiting the birth of his first child in the spring of 2015 was the first man I interviewed. Mr. Celso is the second man I interviewed. Mr. Celso and his wife experienced a very emotional and nerve wrecking pregnancy and birth of their two 4 month old twins. Lastly, Mr. Shipley was the last man I interviewed. Mr. Shipley is a father of a one year old boy. Mr. Shipley’s experience of the birth of his child was much different then the other two gentlemen given that Mr. Shipley and the mother of his son are not in any type of relationship, nor were they during their child’s birth. Each of these men shared a lot of similarities as well as an abundance of differences regarding their children and soon to be children.

By having a father in the home it enables the child to see a masculine role inside the home. The father’s role is not to act as an authoritarian for the mother for punishment, but to also give the child love.

A Father is an important part of a daughter’s life, they are there to guide, mentor, and protect their daughters. In the Poem My Father in the Navy Judith Ortiz Cofer shows how here relationship with her father has had a positive impact to her. While the poem Daddy by Silvia Plath shows the negative relationship with her father hinders her. Both Poem explore the complexity of relationship with fathers.
