When it comes to writing, my experience is fairly decent. I have been a writer for the majority of my life when starting back when I was much younger. I was required to write a small story for a handwriting class, however, I got so hooked into the story that after the class was over, I rewrote the story in a much larger scale. I would continue writing small stories and poems for the next few years of my life before I decided to take on my biggest project yet. I planned to make a comic booked based off of the Pokèmon franchise, but following brand new characters. I often spent my time daydreaming about the plot, and I eventually realized that the plot had little to do with the Pokèmon franchise anymore. Instead of quitting however, I
While writing might seem like a simple task, it can be a daunting task for a lot of people. Sometimes it can be hard to express the ideas in your mind in the words of a paper. This results in a disconnect with what a writer may actually think. A great writer is one that can transform his thoughts into words perfectly. This is a craft that takes many years to perfect, which is why writing is troublesome for a lot of us. Many students also have had bad experiences with writing. Maybe they had a teacher that didn’t try to support them and their writing. They might not have ever gotten the help they needed and may feel that they are in a hole where their writing can’t get better. At this point, they just accept that their writing will never get better.
English has never been my strongest topic nor has the writing process been easy when faced with writer block. This challenge made writing difficult at times in where I was unable to think what should be written next. In this portfolio, I include a variety of pieces in the growth in my abilities of overcoming this challenge as a writer. As I reflect back at the end of the semester on my work in the writing 01 course, I am able to see clearly how much have improved as a writer and display my growth. I have learned about myself in term of weakness and strength and learned from them. In this portfolio , I tried to show the presence of the different style of work I completed and the peer editing of this semester. And how the feedback that I receive
Think about your experiences of writing at college. Which types of assignments have you found helpful in strengthening your writing skills? Where do you want to improve your writing? What’s the most useful advice you’re received that’s helped you improve your writing. Be as specific as possible.
Overall, I enjoy writing. Preferably, I find comfort in writing without expectation or criticisms. I am familiar with the areas of my writing that need improvement, but my apprehensions stem from lack of time, discipline, and focus. It is undeniable that I enjoy writing as a free form of expression to keep secrets or share, it is a leisure for me. So, I will not take the time necessary to hone my skill set any further than what required of me during my academic career. When it comes to discipline and focus I find myself passionately articulating and editing my thoughts when I have an interest in what I am writing. Yet, when the subject matter is not captivating I do not put in nearly as much effort as I would if my heart was in it. Writing
Although writing is essential in our lives like water and in which it is use to express our emotions on a piece of paper, it can also let some of us as me with a traumatic experience. Even though, writing is fundamental to our lives, it can also leave you with a bad taste, for example; I used to and still consider myself having terrible handwriting and difficulties in starting my essays. That at the end, I know it will help me throughout my career if I perfection it.
My journey into the unknown world of composing has proved to be just that - unfamiliar, alien, and foreign to me. In the past I had once or twice, possibly more than I am willing to admit, patted myself on the back for what I thought were well prepared compositions. Never would I have conceived that I was more of an amateur composer rather than a skilled and experienced writer.
Reflecting on my peers work, I noticed a wide variety of writing quality, It varied in length and quality. Comparing it my own I can’t say that my personal writing is better. Since the people ranged differently. Some of my peers writing was better than mine and others were better. I did realize that most people put in a lot of effort and comparing my writing to that it shows that I need to put in more time to get the quality of writing. Furthermore, I was surprised when there was a minimum of 500 words some people went beyond the requirements while other did it. During the debates, some individuals did put in the effort to make a good argument and that showed through in their mid-term. And since it was a group debate assignment a lot of experience and levels of writing came together to come up with the best outcome.
Writing has continuously served as a getaway in my life. It has kept me from bottling up my thoughts and emotions and has allowed me to express all of these things on paper. Communicating through speaking has always been a weakness of mine. It is for this reason that I often turn to writing to convey my feelings. Though have such an immense passion for free-writing, I have found myself struggling when comes to writing academic papers. Generally, I enjoy writing when it is something that I am interested in. In Composition I and II, I often have had the opportunity to choose the topic that I write my paper on. I am confident that this has been a major turning point for me within my academic essays. Ultimately, Composition I and II have taught
I am very excited for this semester with you as my English 101 professor. I am proficient in both reading and writing, but I hope to grow and improve my skills with your help.
For as long as I can remember, I’ve been writing, both inside and outside of class. While I haven’t always been drawn to reading classics, I have spent a lot of time reading in general, and it always seemed to encourage me. I was easily inspired by the words on the pages coming to life in my mind, and even more fascinated by the fact that the image almost certainly looked different to every individual who took the words in themselves. I’ve always enjoyed being able to paint images in the minds of others and intrigued to learn just how much different it must look to each person who took in the words that I wrote. Did they look different to other people, or did everyone have the same general idea? How close were their own images to mine?
As a person who enjoys the subject of English, I feel safe to say that I do have a love for reading and writing. Reading helps me escape to another world, and developing a well-written essay is very satisfying. My favorite genres are historical/science fiction, and I’m a fan of dystopian novels. Oddly enough, the wretched societies and brutal experiences within these books cause me to look at life with a better perspective, and it opens my eyes as to of what could be, and what is. My strengths as a reader include my ability to decipher a piece of text, and read quickly enough to complete a book within a couple of days. Contrarily, I find it very difficult to get myself through books which I may not feel a connection with, and that tends to
I have tremendously improved as a writer during the time spent in this class. Composition one has taught me many lessons that will benefit me down the road. I have learned how to become a better writer, and I have learned many different tips to make my work the best it can be. During the months spent in composition one, I have written four essays. I struggled with some essays more than others, but I still made all of the deadlines. My best two essays are essay one and essay two.
How long do you think you’ve been writing for? For many, the first lessons on how to read and writer were taught all the way back in elementary school. Over the years I’ve learned more about writing and what it exactly means to be a writer and how we express our ideas in our writing. I’ve always been taught writing, but it’s not so often that I look back on our old essays or writing projects. If I look back, I can see how my writings improved, what and where my writing has changed and even find what hasn’t really changed. Of course over the years, my writing style has been modified and adjusted as I learned new things with different teachers. I’ve look back at old essays before, but now it’s time that I look back and really read through
All throughout my years of schooling, I’ve had just about, one paper that was about one page long, due every year. My papers never had to be more than one page in length. Therefore, I did not have to do much writing or do many essays. Surely not enough to remember any of the assignments. Writing has never been something I enjoyed doing, so I never bothered to many any memories of my writing experiences. I did not think it was necessary to remember any of them since I only had to do them to get a grade. The only writing experience I remember was the first assignment I had in this English 100 class about a writing experience. All week long, I sat there thinking about what to write about, but nothing came to mind as a topic. Then, one thing came to mind, but it was so very vague, I could not write the length that was needed for the assignment. I could only think of a few sentences to write for it. After sitting for a few moments longer, I thought, how about I write about how difficult it was for me to write this essay before it was due.
I have never really liked to read and write. At a very young age, I learned that writing and reading homework was the one that I most hated doing. I didn’t learn how to read and write until I entered elementary school. I remember that my mom would put my brother and I to do our writing homework and she would tell me to do my letters smaller and she would tell my brother to write bigger. She would really struggle with both of us when it came to doing our homework because she would tell me something and my brother would do it and vice versa. I don’t really know how she managed to help us with our homework when she didn’t even know how to actually speak or write English.
