The purpose of this paragraph is to provide an evaluation about the Showcase of Student Writing event that happened last December 5th in which our whole English 120 class participated in. This evaluation letter will also show how we came up with our group’s infographic project and what it meant to us. When we were put in groups and asked to create a PSA Infographic, our group chose to make one about Diversity in America’s film industry. We worked on it for almost three days and got most of our sources from my commentary paper and the rest from other credible sources like one from the USC Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism. Our title was “Welcome to Hollywood, Behind the Glitz and Glamour”. We were able to show that even though …show more content…
I believed it was successful not only because of the hundreds of people who came but also because from the effort everyone put in. I made a few rounds while I was there and I can tell that everyone worked hard on their own projects. The showcase was beneficial because it provided students the chance to present their work and to explain to the a wider range of audience, not only to their professor or to a class. It also taught a lot of us how to present ourselves well in a professional way when talking to a judge, professor, teacher or another student. I saw people making really good eye contact with whoever they talk to which is nice because I took College Speech in high school and one of the first things I learned and did right away was to maintain good eye contact with my audience when presenting something. We also got a few people to write comments under our infographic project which was really nervewracking at first because we did not know what they were going to say. It all turned out to be fine and a lot of people said that they liked our title and the information we provided. I saw a lot of cool projects like there was a class who did advertisements and one group made one about a "Bison" clothing truck that sells NDSU-themed clothing. I loved it and I told them that they should make it an actual thing so that people across the country could buy some clothing from NDSU! I also saw …show more content…
I am happy that we got to showcase something that I am really passionate about through creating a poster. I am thankful that my groupmates and I were a team and finished a project that we are all proud of. I am also very thankful that I got to participate in the Showcase of Student Writing event this fall because I definitely learned a lot from it and I got to appreciate journalism and writing even more. I would definitely go to another one if there will be one again next semester or next year in the
Throughout the progression of this course I learned countless things concerning my writing. {Simkin, M. G., Crews, J. M., & Groves, M. J. (2012). While it’s there’s a many amounts of things ‘ve learned throughout the course, there are several things I‘ve learned which include the step by step process, including the correct usage of grammar and properly proofreading my work before I turn it in. I found out i had a major problem with my punctuation usage and insufficient when it came my periods and commas. I’ve invested some time writing through grammarly and other helpful sites to improve my writing skills. I appreciate the assistance and help I received from Mrs. C
No relationship is is good one-hundred percent of the time. Sometimes the relationship is good and you enjoy it, other times you fight and would rather be by yourself. My relationship with writing is no different. Sitting down and typing out an essay can be relaxing and therapeutic at times. However, there are times when it would be preferable to just divorce the whole process. This is why my relationship with writing is a “love-hate” one.
These essays show me how much I lack when it comes to descriptive writing. I often use simple vague words to get my point across quicker rather than taking the time to write about the details about the situation or the people or whatever I may be writing about.
One of the tips that has really helped me the when writing and improving my writing is, write your thoughts before organizing them. My mind flows when I am writing a paper or thinking about the topic and I sometimes forget to write everything down, so before I write a paper I sit down and really think about my topic, then I just write words and phrases that come to mind so that when I start my paper I have a general idea about what I want to write.

As a writer in college, students will be challenged. Unlike high school writing classes, college writing will be more sophisticated and intimate. In high school, most English classes require students to follow the pace of the teacher, however, college writing requires students to work at their own pace. After reading these two articles by Sommers, my thoughts on academic writing has changed. One of Sommers’s students, David, best exemplifies my expectations of a college writer because his attitude towards the class demonstrates how I believe academic writing is challenging. As a student, David went against the grain of the class and “went beyond the texts [Sommers] offered and chose his own.” I believe that college students like David struggle to find or understand information in the given text.
The first couple days of class were not as bad as I thought they would be. I was pretty lonely at first because I had no friends, but a couple of days later I started becoming more social and made a couple friends. My classes are exactly what I expected, I knew they would be harder than high school but still do-able. One thing that was new to me was that my teachers didn’t know me because they are all big lecture classes. The reason why I like my writing class because it’s a small class and my professor is nice, outgoing and makes the class fun. The work isn’t too overwhelming yet, but blackboard is very confusing sometimes and I missed some assignments.
I’ll be honest, I was not looking forward to taking College Writing I. That’s probably why I waited until my junior year to take this course. I absolutely hate writing papers and after 4 semesters of writing lab reports for my chemistry classes like organic chemistry and general chemistry, I didn’t see why I had to take this class. I already took English classes for four years in high school. However, I’m grateful that I took this class and that I will be taking College Writing II next semester. I believe that I’ve grown as a writer and I can’t wait to learn more in College Writing II.
Coming into this class at the beginning of the semester, I expected a lot of writing but not so many other extra assignments. My main target was improving the quality of my introduction and conclusion paragraphs in my essays. I learned a few new ways of arranging introduction and conclusion both in class and at the Writing Resource Center.
Though the definition of a “good paper” is subjective, there are many universal qualities that produce a strong, academic writing. All rhetoric is comprised of an issue, claim, persuasion, audience, evidence, reasoning, assumptions, and appeals. There is not only vast variation in these subfields, but differences in a writer’s style. Nonetheless, there are some characteristics that are apparent in all styles of writing that help to bolster the argument.
I found the writing "Ten ways to think about writing" extremely insightful. It was a very helpful article on different ways for us to think of writing and different ideas and tips to keep in India when writing a paper or article. One way I may approach my writing is to write about something that I know and am interested in. Whether it is sports religion, or anything else, if I am writing on a topic that I enjoy and know about it will make my paper flow much more smoothly and will make the struggles of writing go away. I also need to show what I mean in my writings. I need to give detail to major and even sometimes minor things in my paper to keep the reader engaged and to paint a picture in their head while they read my paper. Instead of mentioning
A journey into something unknown can be a very nerve-racking experience. For myself, this journey was into Composition 1 this semester. Coming into a college level writing class as a junior in high school was an exciting feat for my academic career. However, I was scared for the next step I would have to take. Little did I know that through the next fourteen weeks of writing I would grow exponentially. This class helped me to experience physical growth, emotional growth, and make critical improvements for the future.
