4. I decided to talk about the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) as my assessment tool. From a post-modern theoretical perspective I know that using this assessment is more a modern perspective at the beginning because you are labeling the client. However, knowing what their type is allows a client to learn more about why they do the things they do. For example when we did this activity in class, I had one letter change from the last time to take it. I am now a sensor instead of a instead of an intuition. The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator Personality (MBTI) was developed by Briggs Myers and her mother Katharine Cook Briggs in 1943 during the onset of World War II (Ham, 2016). Briggs recognized the need for psychological instruments that would value human differences and utilized the C G Jungs theory in creating the MBTI (The Story of Isabel Briggs Myers, n.d). According to The Myers & Briggs Foundation (2014) Myers and Briggs initially tested a group of 20 relatives and friends. They utilized such sample, because they thought they could predict their personality solemnly on observation which by observation. The initial random sample did not truly represent a whole population, but merely were used due to availability.
The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) “is an introspective self-report questionnaire designed to indicate psychological preferences in how people perceive the world and make decisions” (13). It is one of several personality assessments that is popular among modern mental health experts throughout the world. Being able to acknowledge what type of personality others contribute too, allows one to understand them and their strength and weakness. The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator showed reliability by using the test-retest method. This method showed a reliability ranging from .57 - .81. This test was tested for validity as well. It was tested against many other similar types of assessments to prove validity. All of the scores correlated to prove validity.
The Myers and Briggs Personality Type Inventory test assessed my personality type as an ENTJ, with an extravert of 72%, intuitive 38%, thinking 25%, and judging 44% (Humanmetrics Inc., 1998). A person with an ENTJ personality type is honest and has a preference for leadership. He or she is very constructive and will always follow the guidelines. Because, ENTJs enjoy order, if there is a flaw in a system, the ENTJ will implement a way to resolve that shortcoming. Additionally, ENTJs are very goal oriented, which leads them to develop long-term plans (The Myers & Briggs Foundation, 2014).
The results of my Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) assessment revealed that I am an Introverted, Intuitive, Thinking and Perceiving (INTP) person. I don’t believe to have done this test in the past, so coming to find out that for the most part I fit the description was quite interesting. I am not necessarily everything an INTP is but it is the description that fits best. My current position at the company I work for has and will allow me to experiment with some of the materials we are sharing during this term and create my own conclusions on what works best for the type of employees that work under my direction.
