Professional sports leagues like the NFL, the NBA, and the NHL seen some amazing athletes come out of the draft, especially top 5 picks. However, not every pick can be perfect, so there are often draft busts. However, there are none bigger than Ryan Leaf, Greg Oden, and Rick DiPietro. Leaf, Oden, and DiPietro are their respective sport’s biggest draft bust, but who is the biggest draft bust of all time? Ryan Leaf, a quarterback from Washington State, was the second overall pick in the 1998 NFL draft by the San Diego Chargers. Leaf had a very promising three year college career. In his three years of college, Leaf had a completion percentage of 53.8, 7,433 passing yards, and a 59:24 touchdown-to-interception ratio. However, when he entered the NFL, his stats were completely altered in his three year NFL career, and not in the good way. His completion percentage dropped to 48.4, compiling only 3,666 passing yards, and an awful 14:36 touchdown-to-interception ratio. Before he entered the NFL, his passion for football was in question and retiring after three seasons, he proved that his passion for the sport was never there. Taken after Leaf are multiple soon to be Hall of Famers, such as, Charles …show more content…
DiPietro was, at the time, the second goalie taken at number one. In college, DiPietro had a 2.45 goals-against average and a .913 save percentage. DiPietro early NHL career was rough, but by 2006, he had found his mojo and signed a large contract. However, he, like Oden, was riddled with multiple injuries and was not able to live up to his hype as the number one pick. His unsuccessful NHL career, he had a 2.87 goals-against average and a .907 save percentage. DiPietro was taken ahead many players who have had long and prosperous careers in the NHL like Dany Heatley, Marian Gaborik, seventh round pick, Henrik Lundqvist, and many
Anyone that enjoys football enjoys the excitement that comes with the game. A lot of the excitement that comes with football is the touchdowns. After touchdowns, it has become customary to celebrate. These celebrations have become more tame over the years, thanks to Commissioner Roger Goodell and his anti-fun ways. Long gone are the days of using the pylon to play miniature golf or stashing a cell phone under the goal post and making a phone call. The most extreme celebration one will see nowadays is a little dance or giving the football to a kid in the crowd. Unfortunately, the media and many other people are trying to make big deal about Cam Newton celebrating his touchdowns with his signature superman
Another one of the most influential hockey players of all time is Bobby Orr. Orr was born in 1948 in Parry Sound, Canada (Orr). Bucko McDonald, a former NHL defenseman in the 30's and 40's, coached the young Bobby. He believed he could be a great defenseman with lots of speed and high stick skills as well. This turned out to be one of the beet moves for Bobby's career, as Orr played ten seasons in the NHL. He played nine years with the Bruins, and his final year in Chicago. He wished to play longer if it wasn't for his knees giving out on him, as he injured them both early in his NHL career. Nevertheless, Orr was arguably called the greatest defenseman of all time for what he did in both sides of the ice.
There are very few people (those few being Alabama fans) who will not call Deshaun Watson one of the best College quarterbacks of the decade. When we look at the way he played against Alabama in the Championship game, especially in the fourth quarter when he let the Tigers to a stunning win, all of his stats point to the NFL. But, so did Tim Tebow, Mr. Football Johnny Manziel, and Vince Young.
I also think this user is right but it’s a little over the top. “Now that Connor McDavid, Jack Eichel and Noah Hanifan has been drafted into the league, people will begin shifting their focus more towards them. We aren't just talking about goals we are talking about shots, +/- avg., assists etc. For instance i am a carolina fan and everybody loves Justin Faulk some think he is one of the best in the league for D. However last night against the Red Wings he had a -3 +/- ratio, that leads me to believe that Hanifan who was drafted by the Canes is leading up to be a better player than Faulk. Hanifan who was +1 +/- ratio had an assist as the game progressed. Crosby who has been playing with many very good players in the NHL is still the best, his line is almost never scored on and they get more SOG (shots on goal) than all the other lines. Shots leads to dominating the game, dominating the games leads to smarter hockey and more enthusiastic players. Yes Crosby is the best in the game.” quotes a user from

Peyton manning was a heisman winning Quarterback coming out of the University of Tennessee who was projected as a top 2 pick in the 1998 Draft but it was debated on Who was going to go first overall to the colts Manning or Ryan Leaf, in the end Manning went First to the Colts and Leaf went second to the Chargers. That started a run in Indianapolis that lasted over a decade with Manning at the helm of two super bowl appearances and one win before in 2010 when manning learned that he needed neck fusion surgery which cut his 2011 campaign with the colts short. Without manning at the helm the colts tanked to the first overall pick in the 2012 NFL draft to which they drafted his successor, Andrew Luck. Now in the Colts Owner John Dorsey,s eyes Manning had become expendable and decided to release manning that same off season. Manning then signeda four-year deal with the Denver Broncos, While with the broncos in 2013,Manning lead the highest scoring offense in NFL history, a record previously help by Tom Brady’s Patriots in 2007. Not only that but he also

Concussions have caused many problems for retired NFL players. Some have gone into depression and committed suicide. In a study of 34 NFL players , about 25% suffered from clinical depression. Ron Wolf of the Green Bay Packers had a feeling about Brett Favre the next year and pursued the idea of trading for him. When this process was taking place Brett had to pass his physical exam. The doctors told Wolf that Brett would last five years tops, because of a hip condition similar to what took hall a famer Deon Sanders out of the league. Wolf went with his gut feeling and traded first round draft pick Tony Smith for Favre. Brett came to Green Bay still in the shadows as he was backing up starting quarterback Don “Magic Man” Majkowski at the time. In the third game of the season, Majkowski sustained an injury to a ligament in this foot. Favre trotted onto the Lambeau Field not knowing that this would be one of his numerous come from behind victories. Down 23-17 with 1:07 to go in the fourth quarter, Brett drove the Pack the length of the field, once again throwing the game winning touchdown pass to defeat the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Once he was drafted, Hernandez quickly proved his professionalism as a football player. Ever since Kevin Garnett, a teenager who by-passed college, was drafted as the fifth overall pick in the 1995 National Basketball Association (NBA) draft, more and more high school teenagers have been making the jump straight to the pros. This means that about 7 percent of first round draft picks in the NBA have been high school teens skipping out on their college education to make the jump to the NBA (Chylinski).
Chargers linebacker Shawne Merriman was tested positive for steroid use setting all new grounds for the NFL. When both his samples came back positive the NFL had to do something.
