The land of freedom and opportunity. Americans are a culture of obsessively-independent, self-righteous bigots. Even when they are wrong, they are right. They are known to be one of the greatest, if not the greatest developed country that has great power and influence over others. The land of opportunity and “The American Dream”, is governed by such an independent culture in comparison to others. It does not mirror anyone else’s; it is the one others sometimes mirror and often marvel at. There are numerous examples, of how the culture can be viewed as strange or even backwards. Because Nacirema are so obsessed with their children being independent and successful from a young age, along the way, they may fail to realize that it may in fact be detrimental to the relationship they have with their child. This sudden forceful act is something that result in the child’s anger, frustration, or fear to even speak to the parents for advice.

Seeking advice from a parent as a child is such a common act. As young children, we often found ourselves asking for our parents’ help in anything from outfit choices to friendship advice. The advice we get is usually a huge influencer in the life decisions we make. As we get older, it is common for seeking advice from your parents to slightly shift to seeking advice from your friends and peers.
