Rome Highlights After months of planning I was finally ready to make my first stop of the summer. And because my plane had been delayed so many times that I left a dat late, I was REALLY ready. When I arrived at the airport in Rome, I was waiting in a very long customs line, and suddenly the line started to move much faster. When I got up to the front I saw why. The customs agents where yelling at everyone to run through. They didn't ask why we were in Rome. They didn't even check our passports. They didn't even see mine at all. Welcome to Italy. I was in Rome for five days. It wasn't nearly enough time to see anything, but I was pretty ready to leave at the end of it. I stayed near Termini station, which was great because it was easy enough to find transport all over the city. It was also bad because the whole area smelled like pee. But you know, it was about 20 euro a night and had wifi. …show more content…
^^^^^^^^^^^ This is supposed to represent that end the end, God has victory over death. I cannot accurately discribe the feeling of being in this place or how it made me feel. All I can say is that if you are in Rome, you should go. 3. The Coliseum at Night. ^^^^^^^^^ This was the best thing that I learned about through research. The Coliseum closes for a few hours after daylight tours and opens back up again at 9. You have to get tickets in advance. I did a guided tour that included the underground dungeons. ^^^^^^^^ Each group that went through had about 15 people. As one group moved into an area, the other group moved out, which made it feel like you were the only people in the whole place. ^^^^^^^ It was so much better in person, the pictures, as usual, do not do it justice. 4. Hiking up Mt. Vesuvius ^^^^^^^^^ This is were I was able to get a really clear understanding of how out of shape I am :D The trail had the consistency of sand and was at a very steep incline. It was about a 20 minute hike to the first lookout
Joseph Campbell’s term monomyth can be described as a hero’s journey. Many heroic characters follow the monomyth, no matter the time period or culture the literature was created in. The poem Beowulf is known to follow the adventure of the hero described in Campbell’s monomyth . The hero’s journey consists of three rites of passages: separation, initiation, and return. Beowulf endures each of these stages throughout the epic poem, so his journey does follow Campbell’s monomyth.
1) Describe how we find King Hrothgar and his response to learning that Beowulf has come to his kingdom.
The Colosseum is the largest and most famous amphitheater in the Roman world. The Colosseum is capable of holding around 50,000 tourist to watch gladiators fight between each other. Similar to colosseums, here in the United States we have baseball stadiums. Same as The Colosseum, baseball stadiums are a huge building to hold many of people wanting to watch the activity/sport (baseball). As well as both colosseums and baseball stadiums each have protection from rain and the sunlight. Baseball stadiums can also hold around on average around 45,000-50,000 people each time that is the same as The Colosseum. The
Beowulf is a regular person, he doesn't have superpowers like a superhero . He is considered as a hero because he fought a monster named Grendel and he also fought Grendel's mother and the almighty dragon . Beowulf is from a group called the Danes, he was the strongest, bravest warrior around . He is consider as a god to his people; the Danes suffered for many years of fear, and danger .
Beowulf is an epic poem that, above all, gives the reader an idea of a time long past; a time when the most important values were courage and integrity. The only factors that could bestow shower fame upon a person were heroic deeds and family lineage. Beowulf, as the paradigm of pagan heroes, exhibited his desire to amass fame and fortune; the only way to do so was to avenge the death of others. This theme of retribution that is ever present throughout the poem seems to color the identities of its characters.
“There are two sides to every issue: one side is right and the other is wrong, but the middle is always evil.” – Ayn Rand. To fully understand the complex world and culture of the Anglo-Saxons, one must examine the only form of historical evidence available – texts. One particular great work from this time period is often underrated and overshadowed in modern society by many other ancient works such as Iliad or Oedipus Rex. The epic poem, Beowulf, was sung by multiple unknown Anglo-Saxon poets four centuries before the Norman Conquest. The theme of good versus evil was constantly reappearing throughout the storyline, the portrayal of evil and its downfall initially shaped the poem’s plot, and illustrates an alien presence; something that
The ArtsQuest venue was new to me and I was impressed with the ease of finding it, the free amble parking, the friendly staff and the great sound and seating. It is a modern impressive structure built around the old Bethlehem Steel Works. The ruins of the old plant are used as a visual backdrop to the new and impressive entertainment complex. There are a couple of restaurants, and a movie theater housed next to the concert venue. The food was very good, the serviced just great and I'd would and plan to go back.
Beowulf begins with a history of the great Danish King Scyld (whose funeral is described in the Prologue). King Hrothgar, Scyld's great-grandson, is well loved by his people and successful in war. He builds a lavish hall, called Heorot, to house his vast army, and when the hall is finished, the Danish warriors gather under its roof to celebrate.
In the distance, the sound of wolves howling at the beautiful crescent-shaped moon and the crickets chirping from all directions could all be heard so clearly. We made our way back to the village after our trip back from the hunting we did the night before. The air was rigid and cold and had left a couple of our men frostbitten. The mighty Beowulf accompanied us to ensure we’d catch good game. The mead-hall was certainly buzzing with noise today, so much so that not too far from the treeline I could hear my favorite place to gather at, as Beowulf and I along with some of the other men walked back. The building was filled with my fellow comrades all sharing stories of their past grim adventures, while guzzling gallons
We did a great mass of marvelous things. One of the most amazing things we saw was Hogwarts, the school from Harry Potter. We drove back to the Briscoes’ house and stayed there for about four more days. The fun was not over. The next day we went to Clam Pass Beach in Naples. You would not believe how incredibly soft that sand was! It felt like I was walking on marshmallows! As I watched the sun sink into the ocean I spoke to myself, “This is the best vacation ever.”
The airport, Camaguey, is huge therefore, we didn’t know where we had to go to check in. my father decided to ask a person close to us to redirect us to the correct location. That person was very rude to my father telling him, “find out on your own.” I saw an employee and asked her where we had to check in. she told me where we had to go she also told me to hurry up because they were about to close the airline. We rushed to the location where we had to check in luckily, we were still on time. My sister game her paper to the person in the booth and was good to go next up was my father, but hey took him to an investigation room. Me and my mother also had to go to that little stinky investigation room. We were all confuse as to why we were there we hadn’t done anything wrong. The employees there were not nice at all. I told my dad to answer the question they were asking him quick so we could go back to the waiting room where my sister was. They asked my parents and I why we were going out of town, and if we were going to stay in Miami. After all, we answer all the questions and was able to go to the waiting room to sit and wait for the plane to arrive. I was anxious for the airplane to arrive I wanted to leave Cuba behind me
Arriving at the Chicago O’Hare airport we were met by a group of Petty Officers who were a lot nicer than I thought they would be. Before we left the airport, we had to throw out anything we were not supposed to have, lip balm, lotions, soaps, we couldn’t even keep our toothbrushes. That was fine, at least I wasn’t getting yelled at. Then we loaded up onto a bus and headed to the base.
We arrived in florence at 11:00 a.m. even though it felt like night. We checked in and had our first meal in Italy. I had a little bowl of heaven, pasta with meat sauce! My sister had a sort of flatbread sandwich called a panini, but our vacation was not just relaxing. We got to work soon.
Everywhere I looked, there was something new to see. Other than the fact that I got sunburned a lot, I thought that this was an awesome vacation. We could even bring our nanny, Maria. We spent mornings eating breakfast from the giant bufe and afternoons were spent swimming or finishing my rainbow loom bracelet. The evening was for eating yummy dinner and facetiming with my friends. I was exploding with joy.
The day we left was a day I will never forget; I remember sitting at the airport shaking my leg like crazy because I was so eager to go. Flying there felt like forever but, the moment I saw the prodigious green mountains, I was astonished.
