Volunteering, in minor or significant ways, taught me that I could make an impact in the world and along the way build my character, experience the world, and develop better communication skills. I learned this at my local library, Fumo Family Branch. I aspire to become a part of the National Honors Society because I want to network with my peers and people outside of the Academy at Palumbo, improve my character and leadership skills, and give back to my community. I strongly believe that I am a great candidate because I possess the four pillars of the National Honors Society: scholarship, character, leadership, and service.

Character is an important ideal to aspire to because it helps one serve his or her community better and by being kind to others make the world a better place. I hope to improve and build my character through the National Honors Society by being influenced by kind and intelligent role models. I am going to take these influences and be a better role model to those in school and at home by always doing the right thing. A person with a good character tends to be involved in service, or giving back to the community and the world one lives in. This is important to do because having the heart to serve people is a way to show appreciation for what others have done for you, continue the cycle of serving each other, and make the world a better place. I enjoy serving people because I am helping, giving back, and allowing people to have an enjoyable time. I give back to my Palumbo community by volunteering at school events, my Student Runs Philly Style community through volunteering at races, and my local community through volunteering at the library.
