Nature and nurture is a debate where both sides are convincing and where people have argued to find out which one is possible correct. The meaning of nature is that our behaviors are linked to our genes that were passed on from our parents. The meaning of nurture is that our behaviors are influenced and our intelligence and personality is determined by our environment. Nature and nurture has been studied by scientists because we want to know which side would be correct but today we still are not quite sure if there is only one correct side, maybe both sides are right.

The often debated concept of Nature vs. Nurture has in recent years become less of a polarizing topic. With advancements in psychology and biology, the factors that go into the etiology of certain disorders and diseases have become more clear, but also less clearly distinct from one another. The lines between the impacts of environmental factors or biological factors on human lives are becoming more and more blurred. In particular, social anxiety acts as an excellent example of how these factors can become intermixed to create the symptomology of a disorder. It has become clear to modern scientists that social anxiety disorder results from a complex interplay between environmental and biological factors.

Nature refers to all of the genes and hereditary factors that influence who we are—from our physical appearance to our personality characteristics. I think that nurturing plays a bigger part in shaping us because our experiences and family help to develop us into the person we become when we are fully grown up.

Over the years, scientists have struggled to prove whether nature or nurture has the key role in the determination of key characteristics and traits that humans have expressed. One characteristic’s development that has been extremely difficult to base solely off of genetic of environmental influence is a human’s intelligence. The question of whether a person’s intelligence comes from the generations before them or does it simply develop from life experiences, lessons, and schooling. The tumultuous amounts of research and ever-changing and advancing theories all seem to agree that both nature and nurture have a partial role in the development of intelligence.

What makes a woman a woman and a man a man? Are we who we are because we are raised differently from others? Many of our physical traits such as gender, skin colour and blood group are rather straightforward in that they are directly attributed to our genes which have been mapped out in recent years. However, certain human traits remains a biological mystery. These traits have been studied on the "outside" but whose "inside" origins remain unclear. Such "mysterious" traits can be anything like intelligence, athletic ability, skin tone and muscle mass. They are traits that some claim to be acquired later in life.

For a long time, psychologist has debated whether your behavior is a product of nature or nurture. Although their seems to be no set in stone evidence as to exactly where our behavior comes from, many scientists believe that it comes from nature. While there are still others that believe that your behavior acts comes from nurture. I personally think that the way you act is a combination of both. People are all created with different personality traits, drives and goals. Therefore we are given the opportunity to either use nature and or nurture in a positive way or a negative way.

Nature or Nurture? It is a very difficult question to answer, because some people think people born the way they will act later in life. Others think it is the environment and who they live with is what affects they way they behave later. So is it genes or environment?

How do people become who they are as they grow up? Is it heredity and hardwired into their genes or does the environment in which they grow up determine who they become? Or more importantly, is it a combination of the two? This has been the debate among psychologist for years. Therefore, the reason someone does something good or bad should not rely solely on upbringing or “it runs in the family” because both nature and nurture are at work within.

Nature versus Nnurture is the most argued topic between Psychologists and Scientists worldwide. Those who believe in the nurture aspect think that people acquire their behaviors from their environment and surroundings. Those who believe that genetics are the reason we are who we are argue the nature perspective. Both sides have valid arguments but I tend to agree with the Nnurture theory. I believe that you acquire your personality traits from your parents, siblings, and other people who are an active part of your life. Kids are always trying to act like their parents. I remember when my girls were little and they used to go in my closet and put on my jewelry and heels and pretend to be me. They were imitating what they saw every day of their life. That isn’t something that they were born with. It is an acquired trait.
