Working afterschool at my family’s business while doing homework and playing sports allowed me to manage my time and my priorities. Whether joining NCSSM’s Residential or Online program, I will be able to welcome it will loving responsible hands into my schedule. Not only would I work hard into committing to my future and current education but also for the community that makes me who I am through volunteering and projects. I won’t just try to squeeze these opportunities into my schedule but allow myself to allot a piece of my agenda for it so I can give it my all towards it. NCSSM Residential program allows me to clubs and sports on the same campus as where I learn and, in addition, lays in the center of Durham, a city full of opportunities.
In life, with the inevitability of time and aging, comes the process of maturing and moving forward on a path into the future. The most immediate and foreseeable destination along this route to maturation is college. Despite the obviousness in continuing education at a college, the “right” or most compatible college is often hidden among the numerous choices that are offered. Out of the multitude of available colleges and universities, the University of South Carolina and Clemson University provides a range of choices and options for large public universities with renowned football teams. Clemson is a large public college in rural South Carolina, with a robust military heritage, a reputation of having more rigorous entry requirements,
After registering for my major classes, I browsed through the English sections and selected one of the many online options. I usually take a few online courses each semester so my schedule is not too overwhelming and I have time for work and leisure. Although I have struggled with staying on top of my online classes in the past, I am confident that I will be able to keep up with the workload this time around. I am now a senior, and will be a super senior next semester, as I am graduating in the fall due to a transfer and a major change. After attending Radford University for a year, I realized there was more to life than drinking five nights a week and made the decision to transfer to Mason.
As a child growing up in San Diego, my youth has been nothing short of any teenager’s wildest dreams of living near the beach, having bonfires, and surfing on the weekends. Although this lifestyle is desired by many, I’ve always wanted something more out of what I do with my time. I want to go to Spring Hill College to become a humble professional in an industry, serve the most people, and learn about the world around me. My life was struggling for direction until I became active in the sport of volleyball and my religion flourished in the Catholic Church. These structures consume the majority of my service as I feel everyone deserves these opportunities for happiness and acceptance.
Since I am applying into NCSSM Residential program, I will talk about that exclusively. First, the great benefit of being in NCSSM Residential program besides the obvious, is no time wasted on commute, so all of my classes, sports and extracurricular activities are on the same premises. Second, calendar and schedule are a must. Once I have all the commitments that require my physical presence on the schedule, I have to pencil in all the items that do not need my being there, but I am still responsible for outcome and completion. After that the only guarantee I will stick with it is my desire to succeed. Based on my "track record" , that is a solid guarantee. I know I thrive in competitive environment and never have let down my classmates, study
When I was accepted into the Rappahannock Scholars program in the school year of 2013-2014, I began to think differently and transitioned into a mature young adult. Before entering the program, I had considered the academic qualifications to get into college to be the most important. This program, and the advisor, taught me that colleges look for more than just academic interests. They are also interested in work experiences, leadership opportunities, club memberships, and honors and awards.
The decision making process on what college to attend can be stressful. For some, the deciding factor can be where they get the better offer for sports, such as Butler Community College, or where is closer to home, like Wichita State University. When the time comes to have this tough, and extremely long, process come into play, look at the pros and cons of the college choices and how each one can benefit life after college. What institution can you get out of as much as you put in? Which college has the degree completion plan you are wanting to pursue? These questions weighs in all incoming college students minds who strive for that goal of success that is a college degree. Despite bearing some minor similarities, the differences
I came into Norwalk Community College looking for a fresh start. I previously attended a 4 year university that became too much for me; attending school full-time, working 30 hours per week while trying to enjoy the college experience. At the cost of an “experience” I ended up failing most of my classes, putting my health at risk drowned by the tremendous amount of stress and just wanted to completely give up. Looking for a fresh start I decided to leave my University, and attend Norwalk Community College. Though this decision created self-doubt in the beginning, it soon came to my realization that it was the best decision I ever made. Immersed in an environment full of positive people, I was able to put my pieces back together.
To be perfectly honest my recollection of Comp 121 is a little foggy, i took the course roughly a year and a half ago and during my first semester and it was one of my first college level courses. From what i can recall it was a interesting and enjoyable, The professor Jacob Sherlock is no longer with the school, but was a professional writer along with a life-long lover and student of the written word. We regularly discussed current events and the class wide give and take of various ideas and viewpoints was truly enlightening and are easily amongst my most enjoyable and memorable college experiences. In particular i vibrantly recall a passionate debate on gun-control which was to be frank, dominated by a extremely Conservative former Army
Since the 8th grade, I’ve known I wanted to be a student at Howard University. Howard University has cleared every major specification that I so very looked for in school in a way no other school could ever. From the moment I stepped on campus the beginning of my junior year, I knew this was the place that I would be able to thrive and inherently become a better “Me”. Howard exudes a certain liveliness that attracts me… Whether it’s the prestige and notably, the mass opportunities presented to all of its students, or the noticeable ambition that exude off each student; I Matthew Smith want to be part of it.
Coming from a small high school and later a small college, I know now more than ever that James Madison University is the school for me. When I received a letter in the mail offering me not only an acceptance letter, but also an abundant scholarship from Elizabethtown College, a small private school, I felt I would be foolish not to accept this generous award. While I have had great experiences and have learned an abundance of knowledge in and outside the classroom during my first semester of college, I now know that to reach my full potential, it’s time to move on to a larger, more diverse campus like JMU. For me, Elizabethtown College was comfortable and reminded me of my hometown. Now I know that to be more successful, I need to step
The College of New Jersey gives me the ability to have a well rounded education. It allows me to major in psychology while still having the option to minor in a science or in Spanish. The small class sizes provide individualized attention and foster relationships between students and professors. I am not just a number, or just another student. With this, I have the flexibility to design my major around what will help me advance in the particular field I pick. Due to this ability, it will make me an overall better professional and competitor in my chosen field. While The College of New Jersey provides a diverse set of courses, it also offers life experience. TCNJ’s Center for Community Engaged Learning and Research will not only fulfill my desire to learn, but also to help others.
I would like to include my personal reflections about what I have learned from completing Assignment 3 in NURS 436. First, I choose the format of a journal because I felt this was the best way that I could display the information about what I had learned. When reflecting on this assignment, I realized the importance of treating the patient’s illness and the need to have a more holistic view of the individual as a whole as well as the family that they are a part of. This ideal relates to the patients, their families and how sometimes as healthcare providers we can do damage by making assumptions that may not be accurate. Looking at both sets of patients encouraged me to critically think of why or why I did not select certain individuals for
Community college is a great institution for students to start their educational journey. Especially when they do not have the funds or lack some of the prerequisite that a university would require. Community college was created to serve the community, traditional and non-traditional students with the best higher education and lifetime learning opportunities. The faculty and staff members at a community college is there to provide leadership in education while going above and beyond to recognize the needs of the students and the community by providing excellent educational programs and support services that are available to all who have the opportunity to take advantage of them. “Student services now include recruitment and retention, counseling, student activities, student health, financial aid, academic support, career centers, transfer centers, and supplemental services such as transportation, child care, and services tailored for specific populations of students” (Cohen, Brawer, & Krisker, 2014, pg. 209). My philosophy in fulfilling the role and mission of the community college, is to establish the mission, vision, goals and values to guide all students on their journey to strive to become successful both in school and in today’s economy.
During this week, I spent a lot of time preparing for the NCMHCE exam that I had scheduled for April 22. My supervisor and I took time to review practice simulations and briefly went over each set of DSM-5 diagnoses.
NCLB brought me to my current position in Elkart Schools as the Academic Dean. Seven years ago I changed buidlings within SBCSC to teach math at Dickinson Fine Arts Academy (DFAA). DFAA at the time was an F school and had been an F school for quite a while. My first year there I saw some growth with my students, but the second year we adopted 8-Step and two new bulding administrators. Mr. Sim’s goal was to turn the school around in one-year, and we did. We had the highest growth in the state for any middle school and our grade went froman F to an A. The year after we won over $4 million dollars from a sig grant. An revemped the school altogether.
