Technology has helped develop many important devices that are beneficial in today's society. Phones, for instance, make it easier to communicate all over the world. As of 2012 according to (Mobile Fact Sheet, 2017) 77 percent of Americans own a smartphone. Each year new features are being added to smart phones to make them more technologically advanced. Many people rely on their phones, but I don't think we should depend on our phones as much as we do because their use has many negative consequences. The first negative consequence is that cell phones can restrict our ability to communicate with others effectively. It can intervene with the ability to carry a face-to-face conversation with another person. Many people spend hours on their phones browsing through social media like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram etc. “According to Digital Trends, people in the U.S.A check their Facebook, Twitter, and other social media 17 times a day during waking hours” (Chang, L. 2015 n.p). Social gatherings with a group of people have decreased over time due to cell phones. At home many teenagers spend their time on their smartphones and do not socialize with their family as much. Young children are growing up with a cell phone and it can have a negative outcome on their ability to socialize effectively with others. (ADD TRANSITION) I don't understand why young children need to have a smartphone. (put another sentence that helps here) Cell phones have decreased face-to-face conversation, therefore we should not grant too much attention to our phones. (REWORD) The second negative consequence is that cell phones are unnecessarily expensive, but many people spend an awful amount of money to keep up-to-date with the newest smartphone. Its obvious that with new features, a better performance or ability to have more storage available in a smartphone comes with a cost. According to (Have phones become too expensive?, 2017) “smartphone prices have risen from around a $600 typical price point in 2012 up to almost $750 in early 2017.” ADD A TRANSITION It is unbelievable how many people are willing to spend a lot of money to keep up with the new trends. If you ask me that is a large amount of money. With this said, we should not spend
There are also disadvantages with this as it stops people socialising in real life. Many people do get addicted to their mobile phones and forget how to connect with the real world because they’re too busy peeling away at their screens. Many people are so used to phones they ignore face to face conversation for virtual ones which is a real disadvantage as it slows people down in the real world. Same as a computer it can be hacked as many leave all their personal information on one handy device as it is extremely convenient but also leaves a risk as someone might take their phone and suddenly all your things are exposed without your recognition. It can also lead to serious injuries as many people forget what they’re doing whilst on their mobiles phones such as crossing the road whilst being on their phone they might not see what’s coming to them and also whilst driving! Many addicted phone users can cause a lot of harm whilst using their phone when driving as this puts not only themselves in danger but also the public.
First, they have many sneers on mankind’s health. They may cause brain damage if they are not properly used. For instance, sleeping beside a cell phone may kill the brain cells that are responsible of the concentration part. Moreover, speaking in the phone while charging may cause a heart attack and dangerous disease and may lead to death. In addition, those people think also that the cell phones are a waste of time. It is a source of spending a lot of times in unimportant things as social media and games and other applications. Beside this, those peoples approve that cell may be a hinder to a successful education. For example, they act as a catalyst in the less improvement of students in their education due to the various times they spent on it and avoid studying. In my option, I wholeheartedly agree that cell phones are not causing disease if they are used properly without any exceed in their usage. To avoid cell phones diseases some advices are taking in consideration in their utilization. The most important advice is to never use the cell phones or touch them while being charging. Rather than this, cell phones don’t have any precursor that helps in causing health problem. In addition, cell phones are not a waste of time due to their role in our life in gaining information and being secured. The mobile phones are the first source of knowledge that is always present in peoples hands , thus , they allow people to access information easily. Also, they are a source of security, they allows people to call each other’s and feeling safe. Therefore, cell phones are not a waste of time is they are used in a flourishing
Life in the past was relatively different from today’s life. For instance, handwritten letters were the principal long-distance communication system, and oftentimes, it took several months before receiving a response. A weekly or monthly newspaper was the only way to maintain the population updated. Today, it is undeniable that the quick evolution of technology facilitates communication and connects the whole world. People are constantly using cell phones to interact with each other through social media such as Twitter and Facebook at their convenience. However, this new technology is not without harmful effect on human health. In fact, overuse of cell phones is likely to cause some important physical and mental health risks, and many users are not aware of those consequences. In this point, three negative effects of mobile phones use on human health are mental health problems, psychological addiction, and accidents linked to call situations.
In the modern-day world, there are about 6.8 billion cell phone subscriptions. Mobile telephones have really changed the way we do things in our daily life. Before cell phones were invented individuals were more interactive with each other. In the late 1900’s, Martin Cooper invented the first mobile telephone. Today we have a variety of mobile phones to choose from such as Apple and Samsung. Widespread cell phone use has definitely affected the world negatively because it is a distraction, can be harmful, and addicting.
Cell phones are affecting the lives of people in a negative way. People have begun to rely solely on the technology that has been created rather than picking up a book or finding answers the old-fashioned way. A major issue that has occurred because of cell phones is the lack of social skills in most nearly all individuals. Cell phones have greatly shaped society and destroyed face to face social skills. People pick up their phones and send a text rather than going to speak to a person. “According to an article in the Huffington Post, children do not know how to handle face-to-face conflict because so much of their interactions occur through some sort of technology…. Cell phones are now preventing these social skills from being taught because children are too caught up in technology than the real world.”(Hyman) When growing up, most children are taught how to make friends, but now children are growing up with the access to technology which has a great impact in shaping the social skills of children. “Young adults also use text messaging as their primary method of contacting friends – over 80 percent report texting as their preferred method.”(Voegeli). Young adults and even older adults have developed an addiction to their cell phone. Cell phones do make it easier to contact people, but they make social skills in individuals dissipate. People are attached to their phones like it is a part of their body. Technology like the cell phone has taken a toll on everyday life events. People cannot even sit in a room with their family without being on their phones. In most cases, they would rather text one another instead of having a conversation. Society needs to
“In homes, in social settings, and at workplaces, where people once interacted with each other and engaged in actual conversation, silence has now taken over as everyone’s attention is dominated by their email, their text messages, and their social media.” Nowadays, many cannot imagine life without a cellphone. Yet, as much has cellphones have plenty of pros, they also come with a whole lot of cons. In what ways are cellphones changing the way we live today?
With 87 percent of American adults owning a cell phone (Jerpi, 2013), it becomes obvious that cell phones have become a staple device in today’s society. Although cell phones offer convenience, they arguably come with negative affects. Cell Phones have become one of the fastest emerging technologies (Campbell, 2006). With 87 percent of American adults and teenagers owning a cell phone (Jerpi, 2013), it becomes obvious that cell phones have become a staple device in today’s society. Since the release of the first cell phone, they have immensely evolved and some would say, have become an essential to everyday life. Although cell phones offer convenience, they arguably come with negative and impactful effects on our social
Rather than dwell on how much technology, and cell phones in particular, have destroyed our society and individuals, we should start to look at the benefits of cell phones.
Imagine this: the year is 1980, a family is sitting around a dinner table engaging in conversation about how his or her day went, everyone is listening to each other, all is well. Now, fast foreword to 2016, that same dinner table looks completely different. Everyone is looking down, distracted by his or her phone, no one is really listening to each other; this is the reality of today and it shows how much we have changed in the short span of a decade. Without a doubt, I believe that the use of technology has more negative effects than positive ones on our world today. The use of technology has created a place where no one really knows how to talk or communicate with each other, teens and kids can't function without their phones, and eight
