Negative Effects Of Technology In Society

Mankind has had a yearning for knowledge since the dawn of time, causing giant technological leaps. At the dawn of the new millennium technology thrived, and since then, technology has taken our world in a completely different direction than anyone could have imagined. Just like everything else, people have their own opinions and they either like, or dislike what technology has brought into our lives. If we look at the idea of technology from both sides, it is having more of a negative effect on our society today because communication skills are deteriorating, technology is changing the way we think for the worse, and privacy issues are bigger than ever.

Technology has greatly impacted today’s society. Through technology, we can have the entire world at our finger tips; but is this new and evolving way of life negatively impacting society? Traditional family foundations are rotting away due to modern use of technology. Children, instead of playing outside, riding bikes, or using their imagination, are increasingly depending on technology; and in the future, technology will have damaging effects.

Many years ago, historians believe the future would be an amazing technologically advanced place filled with robots and time traveling. But today no one seems to be shocked by all of the advancements ("Negative Effects of Technology"). The computers are controlling minds, and humans are acting more as robots than citizens. Over the last few decades, there has been a dramatic improvement in the development and use of technology. Workplaces have gone from handwritten records to storing all information on computers. Cell phones are available at immediate disposal to contact anyone, friend or foe. But the impact computers and cell phones are leaving on society may not be for the best. There are many benefits and downfalls that the rapid increase of technology has had on society.

Technology has a major impact on society. With how integrated it is in the world today, it is hard to find something not affected by it. Everyday life is based around technology with cell phones, televisions, and cars being standard to most families in America. This makes some people think that it has a negative effect on society. While there are some negatives, overall, technology has a positive effect on society.

Albert Einstein once said “ I fear that technology will surpass our interaction. The world will have a generation of idiots.” Many people tend to think that technology is one of the best things to ever happen , but others believe that it is starting to have a negative effect on humanity. There are many different types of technology, but the two most commonly used are cell phones and computers. Our generation is being raised alongside technological evolution. Individuals use technology everyday for many different occasions, whether it be for work, school, or just to play video games. People don’t realize that they could outside enjoying their life and having fun, but instead they choose to stay inside on their computers or cellphones. Humans are being taught that technology is the reason behind everything that is happening in society today. Technology is supposed to make life easier for everyone. While it is true that technology contributes a lot of good to the world today, it has not came without a price. There are various negative effects that technology has caused in today’s generation. Technology is negatively affecting humankind because it is making people depressed, it is beginning to make individuals simple minded, people are becoming addicted to their technology, and because it is starting to make human beings do things that will put them in dangerous situations.

Although technology can bring people together and has educational tools it can tear us away from what's real in life. Technology has become such a big part of our lives that people can now just look at a watch and check their emails or watch a video. People are being consumed by their own technology devices technological to the point that instead of spending actually face to face time with their family they are in their room and in their bed just watching youtube. There are many problems with the way technology negatively affects people. To name a few, people are constantly distracted, there are many individuals that are in social isolation because they are always on their device. Also, an individual can suffer from technology addiction which leads to having a warped sense of reality.

The use of technology varies amongst different age groups, often used for productive means, but there is also a negative side of technology usage. With the advancement of technology, technology is considered as survival tools for humans. These generally make life easier and helps humans be extra productive. Moreover, Adults harness the power of technology to solve complex problems. Usually, this can only be done with the aid of a computer. Another arena of technology use is for school, both, parents and teachers believe technology helps enhance learning. Although technology is meant to be useful in different scenarios, it does not always mean it is healthy. For example, as suggested in a study – “Students who use less technology, score higher on reading exam versus those who use technology above the average” (Bremmer, 2016). Society has evolved to misuse technology in many unhealthy ways; these ‘negative uses’ have many ramifications for individuals.

Technology is one of the strongest and powerful tools people use today in the twenty-first century. “In the modern knowledge and information society, everyone can enjoy benefits from advanced information and communication technologies.” (Jun 1). When use technology they lose lack communication with other, they lack time, attitude change, and lastly lack of school work. Technology is a strong addition that can lead to children doing negativity things.

“Technology should improve you life, not become you life” - Billy Cox. These words from the legendary bassist have a powerful meaning which can relate to today's society. The fascination of new technology has stolen the eyes of the people worldwide. As more breakthroughs with technology occur, people will become more dependent on a resource that is not reliable. In other words, more people will start to depend on modern technology with all of their needs, which can lead to reducing of their creativity and own intelligence. The uprising of new technology may have its advantages, but on the other hand, it can cause cyberbullying, health issues, and a lack of social skills.

With all of the technological advances that have been made over the last decade, it is amazing that a person ever leaves their home. While technology allegedly makes our lives better, in reality, technology only makes our lives more difficult. In doing so it changes the way things used to be done, it causes a huge lack of communication and lastly, technology is great, until it breaks.

Walking down the hall at school, most students are on their phones because they just got out of class and have not had it for forty minutes. Technology has overtaken most of the lives of teenagers. It can be used for the good of the people or tear people down. Technology often makes people more alone due to the fact that it has overtaken some people’s lives, people spend more time on their phones than being productive, source of cyberbullying, people care more about how they look online rather than in person, use it as a replacement for interactions, and some schools want to revamp learning to online.

If you walk around campus, almost every student is either looking down at their phone or has headphones in listening to music on their smartphone. Sitting in class nearly every student pulls out laptops to take notes on and complete homework. This exposure to technology is starting at an extremely young age now a day. Children at the young age of two can unlock a smartphone or tablet and play the game they desire. Everything we need to know is right at our fingertips thanks to smartphones and tablets that have access to the internet at all times. The younger generation does not know the world without technology, which is able to help them when stuck on a homework problem or seeing what is trending on the internet. Technology has changed the way humans interact with each other and changed the way we complete tasks, such as homework. There is no need to look up terms in a dictionary, when a Quizlet has all the answers. While some people may argue that the world has become better due to the technological advances, Technology is having a negative outcome on children and adolescent’s development with long term effects such as health illnesses that is changing the way people interact with each other.

Televisions, cellphones, games systems, and even computers all have been effortlessly used by people of all ages. Technology has rapidly influenced many people and changed the way we see things. There is not an area where no one has some type of technical device. The technological era has already occurred and it has not only revolutionized many aspects of life, but also everywhere we go. At times like these, technology has improved over the years to help many people survive; however, people are blinded so much with what benefits us they fail to see the consequences because technology is what encourages addiction and addiction only.

Nowadays it is almost impossible for many people to do their works and spend their days without using any kind of technology. According to Savanah Guthrie, an American journalist “ a recent survey found that people check their phones up to hundred fifty times a day. We talk, text, listen to music, surf the web, take pictures, oh, and then we share it all on social media.” Many people think of technology in a negative way. They think technology makes people create their own world and it make them alone. Even though technology has some negative effects on society, it has also a positive impact on the way people communicate. Technology makes it possible for people to enrich their relationships and for disabled people to overcome their disabilities.

When was the last time you went a day without turning on the TV, working on the computer, or looking at your phone? I doubt many could honestly say they have gone more than one day without using technology. A little girl and her mom walked into Verizon, and the little eight year old instantly ran around the store looking at all the phones. “Mommy, this one is so big; can I have it, and what about this one?” screams the little girl. In today’s world, technology is flourishing and growing, and we live by it. Whether it is fighting to get the newest iPhone or purchasing a sixty-six inch TV screen, people cannot imagine life without technology and rely on it to do almost everything. However, technology can cause a loss of privacy, and today, Americans even lose individuality. Society and all its technological advances has a negative impact on today’s culture.
