As he begins his research for the novel and is just reporting, Capote wants his readers informed of the crime and the motives of the ‘cold blooded killers’. Capote was able to become so close to the case because he was already a well known author, and Alvin Dewey’s wife was a fan of his work. But, Capote used ways that were controversial, such as not taking notes during interviews. Capote was self serving and manipulative but unknowingly served the greater good.
