Today was another lousy Monday, just like last week. Everything Samantha did was scheduled. She lived a very busy life in New York City. If it wasn’t on her schedule she wouldn’t make time for it. Except today all of that changed. It started early in the morning. The day was stormy and extremely rainy. The storms got carried away and knocked the power out. That led her to being late for work because her alarm had not gone off. When she finally woke up on her own, she went into a panic! Samantha hasn’t been late to work in over ten years. She rushed around her apartment getting dressed and fixing her hair. On her way out of the apartment she read a text from her boyfriend Michael. The text was explaining that today is Valentine’s Day and he wanted to take her out to dinner. She replied back saying she would go. While she was walking outside from the apartments she thought to herself, “Crap. How could I forget that today was Valentine’s Day? I’m late for work and it’s rainy outside. How could this day get any worse?” She then stood on the sidewalk and hailed a taxi. The taxi took off and she was finally on her way to work. She made it to work and got a huge lecture from her boss. She had never been late before so she couldn’t understand why he was so mad at her. It was a long, slow, and uneventful day at work. Boy was she glad to be getting out of there that evening. Outside the sky was dark but the stars were bright. She stood under a lamp post and hailed a taxi so she could
New York City’s old slum neighbourhood, the Five Points, was notoriously known for its vice and crimes. The first organized crime group in New York City was the Forty Thieves which was led by Edward Coleman, started in 1825, in the back of a grocery store. The Dead Rabbits were an Irish gang in the Five Points area, and are most known for the riot they caused in 1857. The Eastman Gang were a Jewish group in the Five Points area, which began in the late nineteenth century, and were the rival of the Five Points Gang. The Five Points Gang was another group, started by Paul Kelly and included future famous mobsters. In Five Points, where most of New York City’s crime started, it also started some of history’s most notorious gangs, and mobsters.

New York City is made up of five boroughs, which include the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island. Within these boroughs, there are high and low-income neighborhoods that contain either high or low status organizational structures or facilities. Each division has their own characteristics and top attractions, such as the Empire State building, Central Park, or Times Square. As New York City may be known for great food and fun attractions, New York faces infrastructure problems within each borough. New York City’s infrastructure funding is limited in lower income neighborhoods, where money needed to upkeep the city goes toward prime tourist’s areas or residents living in high status neighborhoods, such as The Upper East Side of Manhattan, Cobble Hill, Brooklyn, and Lenox Hill, Manhattan. Moreover, abandoned buildings, poor sewage conditions, and rocky roads and streets are examples of low-income area infrastructure problems that may hinder neighborhood growth both structurally and economically. Harlem, East Brooklyn, and South Bronx are low-income parts of New York that lack new and refined facilities, roads, plumbing, and fundamental structures, which contribute to high crime and arrests.
Every time I hear this song it makes me long to leave all of my responsibilities and head off to the city of dreams. A trip to New York has been a dream of mine since I was a little girl. I have always wanted to visit the place of tall buildings, history, and where culture is intertwined with its people. I have wanted to live the fast pace life of a New Yorker, where I could stand outside and see, smell, and taste all of the experiences that this city has to offer. I have been building and building this ideal image in my mind for so long. If I ever get to New York, will I be disappointed by the city that never sleeps? The city that is a part of almost every movie I watch. Can New York live up to the expectations I have
You tried to go to work last week, but as soon as you leave your house you end up somewhere you should not be. On Tuesday it was the bar Rachael works at. She’s told you to stay out of that part of town. You got lost on the way home. Wednesday it was the grocery store. A woman screamed when you appeared. You left quickly. You’re not sure where you went on Friday, but it was dark and damp and smelled of rust. You curled up and cried until you found yourself back at home, crouched in the bathtub.
The artist was born in the Hoboken, New Jersey City in the year 1864. He got his education from Germany as an engineer, returned back to New York in the year 1890 to prove the photography. As the editor of the Camera, Notes explored his scene of the aesthetic potential of medium published work, photography, which was in the conviction of his. In the year 1902, the Alfred broke from the group and focused on the craftsmanship. The Alfred style of work did in its own way. The photographer did his own productive way to photograph the things. Alfred took the car in the printing of his photographs of platinum prints. The process used was yielding an image with a rich subtly varied tonal scale (Hostetler, 2004).
Every city has more than one story to tell, more than one face to show. In “Mexican Manifesto,” Bolaño’s narrator tells us that “[j]ust as the hidden face of other cities is in theatres, parks, docks, beaches, labyrinths, churches, brothels, bars, cheap cinemas, old buildings, even supermarkets, the hidden face of Mexico City could be found in the enormous web of public baths, legal, semi legal, and clandestine.” Likewise, the hidden face of New York City lies within parks, museums, restaurants, etc. New York City is called “the City of Dreams”, “city that never sleeps” and “the Capital of the World”, especially to the outsiders – the tourists. However, is that the city all about? Not even close! People tend to look at the bigger and more obvious picture. No one takes the time to analyze and thus, they end up missing out on the little facets which also have their own stories to tell. One can only understand a city to the full extent if one knows the entire truth consisting of the good and the bad as well as the essential and trivial factors.
New York, NY. -- In a counter attack speech, presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump lambasted his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton as a "world-class liar," and the "most corrupt person ever" running for president.
New York is the most complex city in the world. On a simple day with crowded people, suddenly I stun because of the restful surrounding in the park of New York, a beautiful lady, and the smell of her coffee. At this moment, I am sitting on a bench surrounded by a carnation garden. I smell the scent of carnations as though I were standing among the mountains and flower gardens. I see many dark red carnations and colorful butterflies in the garden, along with the vanilla sky which makes everything around here more romantic. I take my eyes to a lady drinking a cup of coffee. The sunlight gradually shines on her face. which makes me notice a woman. She has long straight dark hair which gracefully falls down to her shoulders. She has a heart-shaped
New York City is one of the places in the world I would love to travel to. Well, in October, I got to go there with my family. My dad had some work to do there, so my mom and I decided to tag along.
There have always been numerous reasons for people to move. Whether it be a push factor, like war or lack of religious freedom, or a pull factor, like job opportunities, people have some reason to move. New York City, like many of the cities in growing America in the late 1800s, had been a huge draw for masses of immigrants wanting to leave their countries due to major push factors like war and famine (Dial). As cities grow, they always need people to fill jobs to help it grow, and with so many people immigrating the structure of the city itself was changing. More factories were established as New York City and New York in general was and is a major city for imports and exports due to its location on the east coast of the United States. With more factories, came more jobs that needed to be filled, and the immigrants coming into New York, mainly from European countries, were a perfect fit as they had limited English and needed any job they could find, even if it meant dealing with low wages and shoddy working conditions. Large companies like the Triangle Shirtwaist Company were no stranger to understanding that industry played a major role in the economic structure of New York City (Triangle Fire: One Hundred Years After). These companies tended to take advantage of the immigrant workers they employed by not paying them very well, and reducing cost to the owners by having minimal regulation and upkeep of safety protocol. These loose regulations and lack of incentive
Samantha knew she could not stay there, and her mom was working night shifts at the hospital. She called her Aunt and Uncle to pick her up. Samantha did not go to school the next day, she was too upset and she needed someone to talk to, so she called Alyssa. But she didn’t pick up, so she called again and finally Alyssa picked up. Samantha could tell something was wrong.
The City of New York’s population is just under 8,500,000. It is one of the most populated and crowded cities in the United States, so obviously this would be one of the last place someone would want to be lost. Being in such a huge city is already genuinely overwhelming for someone from South Dakota. As a family, we had already been to Chicago, a larger city. We thought we would have a pretty good handle on how to navigate through so many people. As it turns out, we were much too confident for our own good.
Five men in NFL jerseys step out of a black chrysler 300. They walk up to up, surround us and one of them says “Don’t run”. At this point, I was freaking out. I was thinking I was about to get mugged. The only thing that was going throw my mind was run. I knew walking the streets of New York City with my brother and cousin was a horrible idea. I turned and took my first step to run and before I knew it, I was being pressed up against a cold, rough brick wall and the man said “You just messed up boy, We’re the police...”.
